Numerology/Astrology

When the question of an individual's date of birth arises, what is the rule of thumb regarding babies who are born by an artificial induction of labor or caesarean births? It is believed by many people that there are connections between past-life identities, and the arts of numerology and astrology. From a soul perspective, is medical intervention that affects the day, hour, and minute of birth a distortion of the soul's intention, or has this been charted prior to birth? I ask because the topic might be of general interest, and I happen to have two children who were born this way. Medical intervention in these matters has become very common.

Good question. I would think that a birth date is a birth date, no matter the method of delivery. It probably would have been charted before the birth.

Just my thinking on the matter.....

That's what I would think also, but I am wary of "modern interventions" unless they are medically necessary. My children were apparently happy where they were. I would hate to think that their fates were altered by human "meddling".

I don't like the idea of being controlled by planets. I am more than a planet's pawn. Sorry. :/

You know what?! I don't give a darn anymore. Astrology and this "karma" business are annoying to think about

I don't really think my horoscopes are usually accurate anyway.

So I say nay to astrology.

On one level I do believe that our actions in this life dictate our star sign in the next life though, unfortunately. But perhaps we can control that :/

That's fine, Sarellah, there is plenty of room for differences of opinion, as long as we treat each other, and differing opinions with respect. ;) You will find some people that agree with you on this, and some that don't.

I just don't wanna be controlled, but at the same time, I believe in the fact that the cosmos are a part of who we are. However, I believe free will trumps our interconnection. We can even use our free will to disconnect from any influences on us :) (A matter of personal opinion)

Honestly I believe in astrology, but I believe our core beliefs about our nature affect us more than the stars do. You know what I'm saying?

I do understand, and you make some valid points. The subject of "free will" has confused a lot of religious figures and philosophers, not just us. However, I'm beginning to think that astrology and numerology work in the fabric of the universe in ways that I've never understood. It's given me a lot to think about!

Like Sarellah, I'm dubious about the whole astrology/numerology thing. I also don't believe in life planning or karma. I've come to the conclusion that souls are drawn to life like moths to a flame, and the birth we are drawn to has something to do with our thoughts and feelings from the previous life. Of course, dates possibly have something to do with that (anniversaries are important to us as people, so probably have similar meanings on the other side), but to put that down to astrology instead of plain simple human nature seems to be pushing things.

I ALWAYS believed in astrology; it's just that I feel the belief in astrology has damaged my mind and I'm trying to let go of it so I don't feel damaged anymore!

In Kabbalah, astrology is used "to rise above the influences of the cosmos and take control over our own lives". I will believe in astrology, but I WILL NOT believe in horoscopes. Okay, now I have decided what I believe in, lol. ;)

What do you guys think of these ideas?

I'm sorry Sarellah, I must have misunderstood what you meant. I'll still be dubious about astrology and horoscopes though. Like Carl Sagan said, at birth the gravitational pull of the midwife is greater than that of Jupiter, but we don't go looking for meaning in that ;)

Probably not a distortion. The soul chooses when it wants to reincarnate again and its parents ... the child born by caesarian will have chosen its mother knowing the possible outcomes of their birth.

The mother herself is also collaborating with fate - influenced by/collaborating with the energy patterns formed by the planets and earth at the time of her birth, and at the time of giving birth. A lot of mothers today choose the doctor/midwife they wish to deliver their children, and where they want to give birth.

In the James Leininger case he talks about choosing his parents ... and a lot of other people recall doing the same.

The sun horoscopes you see in newspapers is not astrology. People tend to be dubious about astrology because they have not studied it in any great depth, so it's not surprising they are skeptical. One woman who was a non-believer set out to prove it was nonsense. Instead what she found was the opposite and is now a well-known/highly regarded astrologer.

Thank you all for your responses. firebird, you answered my question perfectly. I agree with you that the generalized, daily horoscopes don't predict anything. For some reason beyond my comprehension, numerology combined with astrology has been remarkably revealing about my own character. I'm not trying to convince anyone, but in the year I met my current husband, my horoscope said I would have at least two great loves in my life, and that one of them would arrive by March of that year. He is a great love, and arrived right on schedule. Do you believe that the two "arts" are a better predictor of character, or of events? While they don't satisfy current scientific criteria, I find that there is so much under heaven and earth that science doesn't yet understand, that it's not a concern for me. Galileo comes to mind! Thanks to all, and my mind will stay "open" to your beliefs.

helz_belz, I don't care at all what other people believe; it doesn't affect my beliefs as a person, unless they make sense to my soul.

And...I'm not sure, probably events, because people's character can come from their parents, or their past lives; not just their sign.

Horoscopes in newsspapers are ridiculous because they only take the sun sign into account; not the rest of the chart.

Numerology and astrology can reveal both character and events, true, however, neither of those things are set in stone. We can be the complete opposite of our star sign and none of the things astrology predicts have to come true, because we have free will.

I'm glad you believe in "free will", Sarellah, but none of us, I repeat, none of us, knows the ultimate truth, at least not while we are walking around in a body! On the other side, we will all know the "truth", if accounts of NDE's are correct. In the meantime, we are all complicated, and drawn in "shades of gray", so we phrase our opinions that way. ;)

They are both useful for personality/character assessment and predicting events, in my opinion (but I do not want to get into a discussion about this). The reasons for why astrology doesn't satisfy current scientific criteria, are many. This article may help enlighten a little: http://astrologynewsservice.com/opinion/scholar-laments-marginalization-of-astrology/ The only thing I have to add is that some planetary bodies are only recent discoveries - pluto in 1930 and chiron in 1977 to name two. Pluto takes 247 years to make a full revolution of the zodiac wheel, and chiron 50 years. So while we can go back in time historically, and observe the 'likely' influences these have had (what some might prefer to call "unprovable metaphysical notions just taken as truth"), to observe the effects in real time we have to wait until they circuit the zodiac. As for raising the education standards of those practising astrology, as referenced in the article, there may be some truth to this. These days one needs 2 degrees, and 1/4 the alphabet appearing after a name, before a word spoken will be taken with a degree of seriousness. This is why an individual with a science background, who writes about past lives/reincarnation, is more likely to gain an audience.

Kind of sums it up for me...slight impulses, choices made by instinct, decision by indecision, all function from the energetic realm to enable the child to be born at its most beneficial point.

Helz, I had to laugh at Carl Sagan's quote, though his isn't my belief.
