Past life experience? Without visual impressions?

I mentioned in another post that I am hesitant to "force" myself to remember/experience a past life because I didn't want the results to be my mind making things up to appease me. The few times I have honestly attempted to retrieve some memory of who I lived as before, I came to a wall. It literally felt like a wall, anyway, a wall pushing against my forehead.

For example, the most notable attempt at remembering a past life was an "amateur" regression led by my mother when I was 14, 7 years ago. I had helped her regress into three past lives, one very intensely emotional and she had resolved bitterness from that life almost instantaneously. I was excited about the results and at my request she agreed to try regressing me. The experience has never quite left me.

She went about it differently than I did. I was in a very relaxed state, to the point of almost forgetting totally about my body while simultaneously being very aware of all the little sounds in the room. When I should have experienced or sensed something in the regression, however, I got nothing and told her so. So she improvised and started going back in time, slowly, suggesting different years, by decade. When she reached the late 1700's, I think, it happened.

She was about to go back another decade when I asked her if my brother's television was on in the other room because I heard a baby crying and a woman singing or humming a lullaby. It was very muffled. Well, there was no tv on and she couldn't hear what I was hearing.

Out of nowhere I was overcome with deep sadness. "This feels like a deep grieving type of sadness," I thought. My forehead seized up so tightly that I was in physical pain. I felt frustration. It was unclear why but when I looked for a reason I ended up deciding it was from not seeing anything during the regression, that I was more upset than I thought at not seeing anything, despite hearing the woman and the baby, both who were crying at this point. In retrospect, years later, I realize it wasn't that at all.

I heard windchimes, maybe bells, too. I felt powerless and started bawling and sobbing very suddenly. Deep, choking sobs, as if I'd been holding my sadness in but couldn't anymore and it was breaking through whether I wanted it to or not. I started feeling sorry for the mother and the baby and then thought of my mother, in this life, dying, too. As soon as I had that thought all I could think was, "NO! Not my mother! Stay! STAY! Please don't go!" I REALLY started having trouble as my sinuses had already had their fill of crying at that point. My chest was heaving and I felt a heaviness there, in my chest.

At this point, my mother decided to end it and she held me while I cried on the couch. As she rocked me, I found it very strange to me since she had never been the really affectionate type. She was so distant. The kind of mom to push me away, physically, when I'd try to hug her or kiss her. At this point, all I could do was cling to her. I grasped her forearms around me and buried my face in her shoulder. My forehead still hurt really badly. The whole thing lasted maybe less than half an hour, including induction.

My forehead has always clenched up tightly, since I was a little girl, so much that I'm always massaging it before bed to ease the tight muscles there. Even when trying to relax, it's the most difficult to relax so it ends up being the last body part I try to soothe. It was clenched up as we went back through the decades, a bit more than usual but I chalked it up to a fluke or something. I don't know, I guess I thought it was just anticipation or bracing myself.

I know at this point it sounds really silly, especially now that I've gone through the process of actually writing about it for the first time...but I can't help but wonder if I made it all up? That's what this post was originally going to be about, about whether this resonated with anyone else's personal experiences but I guess I'm really just sharing the story here. I wonder what life I touched upon that day as I had no real sense of who I was, let alone SEE anything. It wasn't memory so much as experience, an audial, emotional, slightly physical experience. I've been thinking about the experience a LOT lately and wonder how to tap into it again, to bring myself a sense of closure.

Has anyone else had an experience without any visuals? If you have, were you able to resolve any issues you had even though you didn't get visual impressions?

HI Chansa,

I wanted to comment on what a beautiful and thoughtful post you have written. Thank you. I have to run to classes this morning, but will respond this evening.

If you do a search on the forum for Roger Woolger - there is a thread about healing past lives and he talks in his new book about the different ways people experience past lives. There are many ways - not all are visual.

The deep emotions you felt sound very personal. I do know the feeling.

Again - thank you for sharing and I will respond fully this evening.

I have the same problem too, where I am afraid that what I'm seeing isnt real. How am I to know if this is actually a past life?

I too have been regressed by an ameteur and it was successful. However I still think it is best to be regressed by a proffessional.

Hi Deborah, Aquaria. :)

I definitely agree Aquaria--a professional and, most importantly, experienced regressionist would be the better choice for someone going through their PL journey, particularly if PL issues prove difficult for a person to resolve on their own. I'd love to have an open-minded, professional regressionist/psychologist guide me through my past! According to the IARRT (?) website I learned about from Carol Bowman's book and this forum, there are four different regressionists in my area, two of whom I would seriously consider. I'm sure, with time and some penny pinching (:butbut:!), it will happen. ;)

For now, I'm contenting myself with some tentative dreamworking--a la Denise Linn :) --and reading lots of Other Lives, Other Selves by Roger Woolger.

And thank you Deborah, for offering up your insight. I look forward to it very much.

As for Roger Woolger's work, I am currently reading the book mentioned above and have also read and completed his Healing Your Past Lives: Exploring the Many Lives of the Soul. (The accompanying CD did very little for me but worked splendidly with my close friend who listened to it with me.) I flipped through the book again, after you mentioned it, as well as read some of the threads that popped up using forum search. Upon reading I found this excerpt, particularly soothing:

The key to opening the heavenly eye is learning to work with images, developing our capacity to imagine vividly and deeply. And imaging does not always mean visualizing. Some of us hear images; we have a more auditory imagination than others. Some of us feel or sense images.....everyone imagines in a slightly different way.

It's comforting to know and be reminded that it's at least not too, TOO uncommon to experience PL auditorially, physically and emotionally without visuals at all. I guess my pre-occupation with SEEING something makes sense since, as humans, we are creatures of visual dominance.

It's just a little strange and confusing for me because I've read so much about reincarnation and past life regression over the past 10 or so years and I'm pretty sure 99% of the presented PL cases involved visual. Later on, I sort of figured it might only be because such cases are more extreme and vivid and make better illustrations for the reader.

However, the friends and family I've helped guide into their own pasts have all experienced some, if not, lots of visual impressions, like a live, wraparound, virtual reality screen of some kind. It's a little lonely over here in this corner with no visuals to share. That's why I asked if anyone else had made good headway through their past sans visuals. My experience was an implied memory at best, still a very intriguing and unforgettable event but nothing with roots, not like remembering high school graduation or my mother's death.

None of these thoughts or semi-doubts mean I take what I've experienced for granted. I'm still in utter awe of my spirit's mystery and beauty, meeting a part of myself that my conscious self couldn't have even imagined existed in its wildest creations. I'm always trying to mend any gaps between these two selves, really, the single self, divided by 21 years of enculturation.

I've had a handful of powerful, visual impressions doing meditative work (I THINK it was meditative at least) before bed. So I know what it's like to have the consciousness tag along while the spirit takes over in showing me something, something directly, more real than either "waking" or "dreaming" reality. I still have hope for myself but I'm trying to let go of WISHING for visions to surface or at least thinking continual visual impressions necessarily = something that makes more sense, leaves me with a deeper understanding and a sense of closure.

Because I think that's what I really want--clarification, understanding of my past and myself, and healing, not to mention, knowing what's going on behind the doors that all cracked open 7 years ago! :).

Hi Chansa
When I was about your age I had a roommate who introduced me to the wonders of the 3rd eye or heavenly eye as you called it. We had just read Lobsang Ropas (sp?) book on his experience with having his opened in a Tibetan monastery. His was forced open with a bamboo splinter which I for one wasn't willing to deal with not to mention the USAF would have questioned my sanity:rolleyes:

We kicked around ideas and just decided to practice with different objects placed out of sight of the viewer. It turned out that the easiest was flipping a coin and (looking) at it before it was uncovered in the flippers hand. The key is FIRST impression is right. The second is remember the state your mind is in when you start getting it right. Mine is a detachment from the world around me almost a no see no hear what is going on around me. Watch the ego. It can step in and derail you quite easily.

In my case the process worked very well indeed, and led to learning how to do OBE's very easily. I knew I had it when a guy I worked with heard my roommate and I talking and wanted a demo. So I did, and attracted a crowd in only a few seconds. Went 32 times without a mistake before said ego stepped in a got me:(

So here is a question for you---When you think or daydream is it in thoughts, pictures, or feelings? All 3 are legit and to do only one of them is very common. With practice if it turns out you are a feeling person you will be able to get a lot insight out of your feelings. 2nd question---do you dream? If so what form do they take?

Jack

Chansa,

I had my first professional regression not very long ago, and I experienced very little in terms of visual. I got flashes, but mostly it was feelings, like I was back in that time and body, with the old fears and concerns and hopes I'd had in that life. My regression doc told me that some people experience regression this way - more feeling than seeing.

It's neat that you can do this with your mom, isn't it? My mom is training to be a hypnotherapist and plans to practice on me. Free regression sessions for life, I love it. :)

Welcome, Chansa, I hope you stay with us here.

HI Chansa,

I continue to be intrigued, there is such clarity in your posts. :D You express yourself very well. One of the things to remember about past life books - is that when written by regressionsists - they are presenting the best cases out of hundreds of sessions. I think the experience is unique to each individual and not every session will be successful.

I am curious about something - do you and your mother share any memories?

Also - something to remember is that traumatic experiences will often surface first. The energy needs to be released and in order to do so it needs to be re-experienced. The ethereal body remembers. Perhaps in the future the visuals will come once you have moved past the traumatic issues.

Since you experience so much through sound - have you worked with any specific tones/music to do meditations? Do you experience any inner light when meditating? SO many questions - but it helps me to be able to make better suggestions and give you more references.

Heya jackh,

That sounds SO interesting! The idea of using a bamboo splinter to open the 3rd eye actually sort of resonates with me, for some reason. I can almost feel the tightness in my forehead start melting away at the mere thought. Weird, isn't it?

However , as forehead impalation isn't really your cup of tea, I'm really happy that you connected to yours without the bamboo. :D And, by the way - 5 times, 32 times, 409240629062 times in a row - it doesn't really matter in my book. I'm still excited for you. :)

To answer your question about daydreams, my primary experience comprises of thoughts, emotions. Often, the emotions provoke tingles in my body. Intuitively, I'd venture that these sensations happen in chakras, both the major 8 and the smaller ones, particularly in the arms and hands.

As for your second question about my dreaming style, I dream VERY vividly. 3D, surround-sound, colorful, emotional, intense. I actually look forward to them sometimes, the way people look forward to a favorite show. My recall rate probably ranges from 75%-90% of the time with moderate to excellent coherency. When I was younger, it was much rarer for me to forget even one night's worth of dreaming.

Hey Athylynne!

I want to thank you for sharing your experience with me. This is exactly the sort of experience story I was looking for. It DOES definitely ring some bells for me. You make me feel right at home. :)

I just read the detailed account of your experience in another thread. Have you unearthed anything else since? By yourself, with aid from your mother or the regressionist? It's nice to know that if visuals don't ever become a really big part of my remembering style that I can still make progress, even resolve some karmic issues.

In any case, I wish you the best of luck on working through your past AND your mother luck with attaining her hypnotherapist goal. How exciting for the both of you!

To Deborah

Hi Deborah!

Thank you for the compliment. I actually worry that I'll annoy people by writing too much. It does make me a little nervous, actually.

As for my mother and I, there's nothing we ever consciously shared. In fact, she was always very distant, physically, emotionally, mentally. Kept me at arm's length. Guarded. I wish I could have done something about it, shed some light on it maybe, while she was still alive.

Her distant behavior always made me question our histories together, whether we shared ANY of it before this life. But I do believe we must've been together before. It's even implied by the turn my regression took before we ended it. I never voiced the words, "No, not my mother.." out loud but as soon as my grief reached its peak when my current life's mother popped into my mind, she not only drew me out of the state but literally into her arms. A RARE instance of affection, physical affection no less.

To answer your other question about working with tones while meditating, I've never quite combined the two elements together. I think I might be a little afraid to.

About a year ago, I acquired two mini, Tibetan singing bowls, something I *HAD* to have, despite my rational brain telling me it was a waste of money and completely useless. Each is big enough to fill one palm. When I'm stressed, I instinctively play with them, letting the tones clear the air and soothe me. I look forward to using them in meditation someday.

Since I can remember, I've always had a hypersensitivity to sound, even people's voices. It took practice, but now I'm only sensitive when I'm calm and relaxed. The music/tones will seem to enter my body, "make" it move in undulating, wavelike motions. It's unconscious, like when your hand moves to scratch an itch - you don't even really process it, you just DO it. But it's even less processed than that. There's NO intent behind the movement whatsoever. Intent and effort only enters the picture when I want to STOP it. It's almost like the tones and my body are having a direct conversation, bypassing me, their usual "middle man", now rendered temporarily useless.

If allowed to endure, this interaction will become much too intense, both inwardly AND outwardly. At that point, I cut myself off from the triggering sound to relieve the overwhelming energy flowing though me, primarily up my spine.

As for during meditation, I'm curious as to what would happen if I DID use music and tones. So curious, that I plan on actually getting a CD for it this weekend. I'm still not sure what I'm going to get.

I really like chanting. All kinds. Actually! Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I lied to you about never having meditated with music and tones. Unintentionally lied of course. :)

Once, a close friend and I chanted to a track of monks chanting, simply, "OM" and nothing else. While we did that, I closed my eyes and lost myself as I knew me. My throat and heart seemed to open and that openess sort of u-turned and swallowed me up. As we chanted, it was almost like my friend and I were in one body, that these monks, pre-recorded even, were ALSO in one body at the same time...and then THAT body disappeared. It was beautiful...and practically effortless to attain. What's funny is it started as a very casual, spur-of-the-moment experiment on our part.

While actually intending to meditate, I'll hear something like a choir singing and/or windchimes, all of which sound external. The choir sounds A LOT like the track, "Angels on High" on Steven Halpern's Gift of the Angels CD. I didn't discover that album, let alone Halpern, until mid-2005, long after hearing the "choir" while meditating. Halpern's work is very head-cleansing for me, and oh so good for my forehead tightness.

As for experiencing "inner light" I've never seen it before. BUT, I have FELT energy inside of me--something I don't have a real name for--sometimes vibrating so finely and so rapidly, I can't tell where I end and the air in the room begins. Ocassionally I'll HEAR electricity buzzing inside of me, too. I assume that I've stilled myself enough to hear what's always been there.

As for visuals, the most recent experience I had during meditation was a vast desert stretched out to meet a nearly cloudless, turquoise blue sky. Four Native Americans stood before me--two men, two women. No sound. I could see the wind lift and toss their flowing hair and clothes and ruffle their feathers and they seemed to be sending me messages in thoughtform.

One of the men wore a crow's mask-helmet so that his head basically sat in the bird's open mouth, the beak stretched above and below his face. After a minute or so with these four, a gigantic wolf-head appeared in the sky behind them. The four started to fade but never completely left the vision. The wolf-head glided toward me, breaching the four who seemed to be witnesses for a sacred ceremony. The wolf paused before colliding with me. We gazed into each other. That's when he told me in thoughts: I'm going to come to you now. He broke the gaze and merged with me all over, engulfing me completely.

Meanwhile I was simultaneously aware of my partner's breathing and shifting in her sleep, even my doggie curled up against my side, just the entire bedroom during the whole experience. This is how I'm positive it wasn't a dream or simple hypnogogic image play. It's the clearest, most powerful visual meditation I've had to date.

So, er, I'm sorry for the looooooooong reply (um, replieS). Meditation is hard to put into words, at least aptly so. :) I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and offer guidance. Thanks for caring.

I Chansa,

Please forgive me - I am in the middle of four projects and time is limited. I will get back to you,. Fascinating posts. Do a forum search for the "OM CD" - I think you might find it interesting. ;)

When I was 16 and somewhat isolated, I had many of his books available and read them. I metioned this on a Tibetan Buddhist listserv about 10 years ago, and it was treated as the most ludicrous thing in the world to have done, even for a 16 yo.

Anway, somewhat off topic, I identify with the Tibetan Yogi Milarepa.

:) Ah Deborah. Of course there's nothing to forgive. :) I am a patient person anyhow. Time is precious, be it illusory or not. Heh. In that case, I am even more thankful for the time you took to read some of my posts and respond.

I do hope your four projects go well and that they come out to your satisfaction.

I looked for the original OM cd at the independent bookstore I frequent but they only have access to the newer one and even then I'd have to order. I'm definitely intrigued by all the posts I read about that CD. It's next on my list.

For now though, I have Jonathan Goldman's "The Lost Chord" album. Listening to samples in the store, it was hard not to give in to the vibrations even WITH my guard up. When I have the time  I'll write about my experiences with it in a journal and maybe even post some summary of them here if it becomes relevant.

To be honest, I'm really not sure what I'm doing with this stuff but yay for exploring some uncharted territory!

Just an update: meditation as a tool for uncovering PL

Since using The Lost Chord for meditation, my dream life is as active as it was when I was a child, with no intent or effort in that department.

Because of my job situation, I don't really get the time to write my dreams down at the ideal time, when I wake up in the morning, as much as I'd like.

Dream recording aside, I seem to be receiving images in dreams, people dressed in strange clothing, in particular two men dressed in robes and feathers with headdressings of some kind. The word "chiefs" strongly comes to mind. These men don't really fit into the dream so much but everything surrounds them. They could be Native American, even South American, but one of them looks almost African. I'm not sure if this is past life leakage but I dreamt about them after affirmations for past life revelation.

During meditation work with The Lost Chord, I found that lying down with my hands on my chest or abdomen works well for me. Sometimes I even fold them. Sometimes I create circles with different fingers and my thumbs, depending on what feels right. Sometimes I get really elaborate and arrange the fingertips of one hand to touch the corresponding ones of the other. The end result can be likened to touching a mirror or as resembling a pyramid. This "pyramid" is a hand posture I've done intuitively since a child and I wonder if it means anything.

As far as gently intending to coax some past life information to the surface, there are lots of physical sensations with a few extremely quick but bright visual flashes - bright so they're unmistakably happening but quicker than my conscious mind is at registering. In fact, I don't think I really see the visuals themselves very often so much as the afterimage of the bright flash. Does that even make sense?

Once or twice, I felt like I wasn't in the same room anymore but with no other sensations or emotions. I wasn't able to discern where I was supposed to be, but got some sort of confirmational response about having left the room my body was in. Lots of buzzy energy connecting the fingers and dispersing in waves to the rest of the "body." It was peaceful and I've never "forgotten" the room around me like that before. I wonder if I can use this experience as a gateway to more vivid ones, particularly past life remembrance/experience? Hm.

As for the visual information I received, a few of them were particularly bright and longer lasting than the others. I saw several different people flash before my eyes, almost like a slideshow. There are three impressions - only one of which is centered around a person - that stick out the most though.

The first is a pretty woman driving an old white or creme colored convertible with the top down, anywhere from the 40s to the 60s, I think. She was wearing a bandana. This scene was animated and I saw from the vantage point of being in the backseat, seeing her from behind. The wind was flapping her bandana around, a coralish color but closer to pink than orange. She was wearing a long but loose sleeved white shirt and perhaps even sunglasses. I think her fingernails were painted red. Also, I think there weren't many cars on the road even though it was daytime. May have been rural or desert. She turned to me in the backseat and sort of smiled, almost to acknowledge that I saw her, and widened her smile to show her teeth before laughing and turning back to the road. Despite the length of this description, it all happened within a matter of a second, two at the very most.

The second visual was the simplest but powerful like someone poured cold water on me to make sure I was awake. Just a zebra. Black and white bands only, then a quick zoom-out to reveal the entire zebra.

A third is the least vivid but the impression is almost as strong for me as the other two and has returned to me more than once. Just an outside scene. Daytime, some clouds, a body of water, like a lake. Rocks jagged like a miniature cliff in the left foreground. Grasses all around. I don't recall any forest nearby but maybe a tree or two. Very still. Very quiet.

So just an update. I've read the meditation thread which was pretty helpful. Any other thoughts or advice?

*s*s*s*s*s

Hi Chansa,

I am going to address the earlier post first. Then your latest. You do express your visions and experiences very well. Thank you for taking the time and for sharing. :) Others will learn from your willingness to express them. :)

There are several things that you have shared - that indicate to me that you are dealing with not just the fives senses -or even a sixth - but extended senses that most people are not even aware of. You also seem to know intuitively know how to use them.

Light and Sound - are both vibration. You seem to be tuned to the vibrational state that relates to the sound end of the spectrum. "I have FELT energy inside of me--something I don't have a real name for--sometimes vibrating so finely and so rapidly, I can't tell where I end and the air in the room begins." Higher vibrations are what enable us to experience beyond time and space and beyond the body.

For example - the fact that you were aware of the Indians, the Crow mask - the WOlf and merging with him.........WOW. Have you looked into Shamanism?
The Eagle's Quest is a good book by Fred Allan Wolf. PhD (no pun intended. ;)) Merging is a very advanced state of awareness and experience. Do you have any past life experiences that indicate you were once an American Indian or lived with them?

Jonathan Goldman is one of the best! Good for you for getting his CD. Gregg Braden also works with him and they have done several CD's that work with specific sounds. I think you would also find Braden's work interesting. Especially the book The Isaiah Effect.

I find a certain JOY in your posts; the positive nature - the clarity -- and your observations which are both subjective and objective. That's a hard thing to do for most people.

After I finish my first cup of coffee- I'll come back and respond to your latest post. :)

HI again,

What you describe with your hand posture - on your chest -touching fingers etc - sounds like you are intuitively closing the openings that allow energy to escape. Instead you are (connecting the flow) of your energy. Kind of like plugging into a light socket only the energy is contained. I do it by touching the middle finger with the thumb, or by placing my hands on my heart center (chest) in the laying down position; I also cross my feet. I will look into the pyramid posture for you. ;)

The movement of circles is very intriguing. It sounds like you are moving energy or even untying internal knots.

Your visual flashes are very important - and yes that is how they sometimes begin. A lot of information in a short span. Have you ever done any chakra work? Are you aware of their meaning? How to open the centers? The buzzing that you are describing is also indicative of higher vibrations and working at a higher level of understanding.

I don't think you know how connected you are. So I will say it again....your descriptions in this thread - of your experience (no matter how trivial you think they may be) indicate to me you are open - very open and as you ask questions - you get more and more answers. And you will. You know the saying - no questions no answers? You are blessed to ask - and receive the answers intuitively. :D

(NOTE: I edited this post a bit, mostly for typos and weirdly worded sentences I churned out in a hurry because I was half-awake when I wrote it originally. The information is all the same, however.)

Hi Deborah! :)

I read your two responses a few days ago, probably the day you posted them. However I haven't had time to compose an adequate response until right now.

Your thoughtfulness and insight have really brightened the past few days. I'm not sure I can convey the freedom and relief your words and this forum bring to me. I don't feel like a crazy weirdo anymore. Or at least not in a way that leads me to question my sanity. Really, thank you for that. :)

There are several things that you have shared - that indicate to me that you are dealing with not just the fives senses -or even a sixth - but extended senses that most people are not even aware of. You also seem to know intuitively know how to use them.

This is interesting to me. I've never thought about my experiences in this way before and I'm not even sure I get what you mean by "extended senses." By that, do you mean something like a "fuller" sensory perception as opposed to a "sixth" and separate sense?

I'm hoping I'll come to understand why sound affects me so much, the way that it does, and to figure out what function this sensitivity serves. I'm thinking about reading the companion book to The Lost Chord CD. The Isaiah Effect looks fascinating, too. So that's THREE books in my near-ish future so far, including The Eagle's Quest regarding shamanism. :) I love it all so much. I'm a fast reader and a book lover.

I have read some on shamanism, particularly after the Wolf came to me. The morning after the merge, I referred to passages about merging and initiation in The Shamanic Temple of Witchcraft by Christopher Penczak. I came away with the impression that merging is pretty serious stuff, just like you said.

That being the case, I can only wonder why an experience like merging could happen with such little effort, let alone with no specific aim for spirit work like that. The only intent seeding that meditation/vision was something to the effect of, "I'm open to whatever messages and experiences my spirit is ready for, for the highest good of all." Then, BAM, the four elders and the wolf. Actually, I've been having a similar, recurrent but less intense experience with butterflies now. Never particularly thought of butterflies one way or another before.

I'm not sure why or how this has happened in the past few months. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with all of it. But I'm grateful, always grateful. Looking to my intuition for clarification is a good suggestion and something I intend to grow more comfortable with. I'm just afraid of not being able to receive any information I can understand. I have problems trusting myself when it comes to the intangible. Finding a mentor would be helpful, I think.

As for indicators of a past life tied to American Indians , I do have one, almost glaring incident ("glaring" only in retrospect since I tend to be dense about these things when it comes to myself  ), that might qualify. I hadn't thought about it in years until reading another post here at the forum a few days ago. It conjured the event back to the surface.

I wrote about it here: Though I don't mention it in the post, writing the piece I refer to in the thread, itfelt almost like remembering. As though I were writing from experience, something I'd truly witnessed long ago. However, it also felt like I might be making it up as I went along, except different because it came so easily.

I have wondered whether these experiences are remnants of spiritual development, left over from other lives devoted to spirituality. Maybe that's why they're as intense and varied as they are. Then again, all lives are devoted to spiritual development in some form or another.

Have you ever done any chakra work? Are you aware of their meaning? How to open the centers? The buzzing that you are describing is also indicative of higher vibrations and working at a higher level of understanding.

No, I haven't done any chakra work, at least not consciously. I'm aware of the main 7, their positions, and only vaguely familiar with some of their associations. I know OF kundalini but not certain what it means or entails.

I don't know how to "open the centers" but it sounds like I might need to do this for my third eye. After the regression I had with my mother, I confessed that the forehead tension had been with me for as long as I could remember. It had been such a major factor during the regression process. I explained that it always radiates in a circular/spherical pattern with its lower half brushing between my eyebrows. She told me, "Your third eye must be blocked. This is probably why you can't see much at this time. Maybe if you massage it, it will help it ease up and relax open."

I have a better idea about what she meant now that I've read more. Massage, as she suggested, is physically soothing for a short time but the tension and pressure always returns. I've always felt the need to release "something" from my third eye area and the idea of that "something" pouring forth in a huge, continuous gush has always appealed to me. I've always found that desire too strange to articulate but here it is. :D Is this what opening the centers would do? Have anything to do with it at all, you think?

Well, now that I've rambled on dangerously close to being completely off-topic, :) I must be getting ready for work. Thank you for keeping up with me for this long. And if you do find anything on the pyramid type posture I do with my fingers/hands, I'm eager to hear about it. :)

HI Chansa,

You are still quite young -and yet I find your experiences to be so in depth; there is nothing superficial about them. Not to mention you articulate them so well. It has been a please reading along.

There is no doubt in my mind that you are capable of them at a very deep level due to past life training and experiences. Extended senses include non-local knowing -360 perception, bi-location, OBE among others..... There are so many ways to perceive reality and create it.

"I'm open to whatever messages and experiences my spirit is ready for, for the highest good of all."
Oh how rare your spirit is....to ask for the highest good of all. My my.........I am impressed. That is why -your experiences are so deep - you are asking from the heart and not for personal gain or importance.

Chansa....I have been here for nine years - I imagine that others read along with interest, but your level of experience and clarity in expression is so deep - many do not know what to say or how to respond. Please continue to share; there is validation in shared experiences, and growth for all involved. Even those who just read and are silent.

I will come back and address your other thoughts and questions about the third eye later; I am headed to juvenile hall to work with youth in lock down today. In the mean time - may I suggest you ask spirit to show you "why?" ;)

Namaste

Chansa, have you looked at Lagrima's information? Her book Chosen to Believe is the true story of an attorney (her) ....
who set out to prove her vivid dreams of a family who lived at the turn of the century were real. Read along as she builds her case as though she were preparing for trial. In the end, this is perhaps the most compelling proof today....
Her memories were obtained without regression.

Wow! I feel like it's been ages since I've been back to this post.

No I have not looked into her info or book yet. But thank you very much for pointing me in that direction. I'll definitely check it out.

It's comforting to know information obtained without regression (non-visual like mine or not) can be just as valid as information obtained WITH regression. I think it's important to branch off of regression as a primary foundation for re-experiencing past lives. :)

Also, I do hope you're right Deborah and if there is anyone else reading along relating to all of this, that you feel free to respond here. I'll be keeping an eye out. :D

An interesting sort of side update.

Now that I've managed my way through moving out of my apartment and back into my house  , :) I finally did some basic research on the pyramid like hand position I've done for as long as I can remember. This is the one I mentioned earlier in this thread - the one I've been using at night when I attempt to meditate on any unresolved past life issues.

First of all, this is a link to a photo of what the position looks like.

Apparently it's a very common mudra called the Hakini mudra. According to this online newsletter on Reiki, mudras are:

Mudras are hand, eye, and/or body positions used for intensifying meditation in Eastern traditions. A mudra is also a seal or symbol. Mudras both depict and lead to various states of consciousness. They can affect mental clarity, affect emotions, and when used over time, can improve physical health......

Mudras are found in cultures all over the world. They are used in religious practices and dance in India, in the gestures of the Catholic Mass, and in martial arts....The origin of mudras is not known, but they do have a long tradition in Tibetan Buddhism and Tantric philosophy. Some believe that they may have originated in Egypt.

I'm not sure if this is so with all mudras, but from the handful of websites and books I looked at today, the Hakini mudra has always been depicted being held over the heart.

Hakini refers to a goddess associated with Tantra and Kundalini Yoga. According to Tantra-Kundalini.com, Hakini "imparts the knowledge of unconditional truth, the awareness of nonduality." She is deeply associated with the Ajna chakra, which, fascinatingly enough, is the third eye chakra!:D

The mudra itself is supposed to have a balancing effect on the brain, stimulating the right hemishpere associated with holism, creativity, dreaming, abstraction, and perhaps what we might call the spirit. Using this mudra is supposed to facilitate memory recall and concentration.

Though a lot of people seem to place their hands in this position without knowing it's a mudra, they do it while trying to concentrate or make a point. I feel it's different for me however.

As far as the posts I composed in this thread go, identifying the hand posture as the Hakini mudra raises some interesting connections/coincidences for me:

- My lifelong awareness/focus on third eye tightness/pain

- My sensitivity to sound which seems to trigger the massive energy waves I experience when listening to music, particularly sacred/meditational music. The waves travel up and down my spine and radiate outward simultaneously, very similar to descriptions I came across a year or so ago about kundalini rising/partial rising when I wanted to find out what was going on with me.

- I always find myself using this Hakini mudra position when attempting to meditate on/recall past lives.

I don't know how "valid" any of the connections I've drawn are. I'd like to know more about mudras, from sources closer to the primary origin. I'm not sure what to do with this information but I'd like to pursue it further, attempt to uncover more since some part of me I'm not consciously aware of seems to know this stuff at heart. If anyone knows more about mudras or has any further insight/advice about anything posted here, please do reply! :)

Outside of this thread, I've posted about my fascination with anything to do with India, especially ancient India. Despite my love for India, I haven't ever researched on it too heavily at all. Maybe a better word to describe my fascination is "attraction". Whether it be a phrase, a stylistic quality, art, music, philosophy, food, animal, or spiritual experience that grabs me, it will always seem to sharpen and bleed out in technicolor so that everything else seems dull in comparison.

So that is my update for now. It's funny, really. I started this thread about a seemingly unrelated past life experience but I may have uncovered another one (or however many) altogether.

Hi Chansa,

Fascinating post, thank you for sharing. It’s interesting how many people naturally hold their hands in a mudra position when concentrating. Even my baby niece holds her hands in a mudra when she is extremely tired -- or contemplating her big brother. ;)

From what I know, Mudra is a term with many meanings. It is used to signify a gesture, a mystic position of the hands, a seal, or even a symbol. However, there are eye positions, body postures, and breathing techniques that are also called mudras. These symbolic finger, eye, and body postures can vividly depict certain states or processes of consciousness. So mudras engage certain areas of the brain and/or soul and exercise a corresponding influence on them.

Ancient Sages discovered that by the touching of hands to each other or folding fingers in a particular way, we are able to create particular kind of energy waves in the body, when needed. There is a tremendous flow of energy in the hands and each finger represents one of the elements. By creating these waves through the use of mudras, we are curing disturbances and balancing the elements to become aligned with the Universe.

Some believe that they may have originated in Egypt.

I believe most of the ancient knowledge/teachings did. ;)

The sixth chakra is called the Ajna Chakra. Ajna means command. It is also known as the third eye chakra. It is called this because it is believed that the student receives telepathic communication from the teacher through this chakra. (something also related to ancient teachings ;)) For this reason it is also called the guru chakra. It is said to be located in the mid brain right between the eyes. It is associated with the mind or consciousness. This chakra is associated with the manas or the part of the mind that is associated with processing sensory input. The Ajna chakra is also associated with the sense of individuality. The quality of your thoughts would be an indication of your Ajna Chakra activity. The symbol that corresponds to this chakra is the phallus pointed up placed within a downward pointing triangle (the whole signifying the polarity of Shiva and Shakti). The color associated with this chakra is white or pale gray. The chakra has 2 lotus petals and the corresponding mantra or sound is OM. The presiding deities are Parama-Shiva and the goddess Hakini. On a psycho-spiritual level it is said to be associated with the mood of doubt or basic trust in life. It is said to relate to intuition, telepathy and meditation.

In Carolyn Myss’s book the Anatomy of Spirit, she contends that each Chakra can be associated with a psycho-spiritual lesson. She maintains that each chakra contains a universal life lesson that one must learn in order to evolve to a higher consciousness.

The third eye chakra relates to lessons of the mind, intuition, insight and wisdom. The crown chakra relates to lessons of spirituality.

Myss says that there are universal truths associated with each chakra that one must realize in order to evolve to the next level of consciousness.

The third eye chakra’s truth is “seek only the truth.” The energy of this center, the mind center, constantly moves us to question. We seek the truth by default always, but sometimes we become attached to the way things are and block a truth that is trying to manifest itself. When we do this we clog this center and our perception becomes cloudy.

The crown chakra’s the truth is “live in the present moment.” The realized being lives completely in the present moment. That moment is eternal. Since we are spiritual beings our spirit craves to live in the present moment. When we do, liberation and joy are the order of the day. When we don’t and the mind is stuck in the past or fantasizing about the future, there becomes a disconnect between the body and the being in it and disease can be manifested at all levels of the body and mind.

Just a thought, but perhaps the reason you hold your hands that way -- is primarily due to teachings you received in a past life, and now you are recognizing them and remembering. ;) It could be that in this life you are meant to expand your level of conscious awareness.

Chansa, I've just read this entire thread, what a delightful person and spirit you seem to be. I've been meditating on my own close to if not longer than 35 years. Although I always knew my experiences weren't unique only to me, I never sought out more information about reincarnation until several days ago. A number of years ago I had various spiritual sites bookmarked. but seldom found the time to look closely at them. As such, although I have quite a bit of meditation/PL experieces, I don't know most of the jargon or terms related to this forum, so I'll use the terms I've adopted over the years.

Your visions that last mere seconds but take much time to digest and to write about is what I call Imprinting. I've had this occur occasionally over the years, maybe once a year at most, and it seems to provide a lot of information or knowledge, which often can take months or years to completely work through. I'll almost always have an "electric tingling" sensation just before, during, and often after an Imprinting. It's as if my soul/spirit has shivered. I've always felt that this was my soul transferring PL experiences to my memory.

The majority of the time when I do meditate, which is at least several times a day, I'll receive "movies" of childhood or teenage memories from my current life. Usually when I receive information about a PL, there will not be any visual sensation, or possibly a calm relaxing image, often where I'm adrift in a row boat on a pladid lake.

What astounds me about your posts is that although I was a professional writer most of my life, I doubt if I could ever match your clarity of detail. Your sincerity and openness are excellent indicators to me that your experiences are very real, and that you are a gifted young woman.

Wow! Your crash course on mudras and the Ajna chakra was very helpful, Ailish. Interestingly, I feel very comfortable referring to the third eye in this way. The term "Ajna" simply feels more "correct" to me than "third eye" though, both feel all right.

I'm grateful for the information, especially knowing you went out of your way to crack open the book and feed me the important points directly from the text. :) Thank you, so much.

On a psycho-spiritual level it [the Ajna chakra] is said to be associated with the mood of doubt or basic trust in life.

This makes sense to me. I've always approached life very cautiously, perhaps alluding to just such an underlying doubt. A profound sense of fragility has permeated my world view since I can remember. I found it hard to trust something so impermanent and sometimes it still troubles me when I dwell on it. So, I've grown to question much over the years.

But I also realized later on that this fragility was also flexibility, strength. My mother used to tell me about the oak tree and the willow tree: "It's better to be the willow tree than the oak tree. At the end of the storm the oak tree is reduced to splinters but the bending willow survives to see another day."

Funnily enough, I've been almost paradoxically, deeply trusting -- at times, to a fault -- in everyone and everything around me. These two concepts of doubt and trust, impermanence and the real seem mutually exclusive of the other. But in my heart, against any logic, I feel both are equally valid and true at the same time.

Perhaps the tautness and pressure I experience in the third eye region is related to this ongoing tug-of-war. The struggle seems to fall center stage in my subconscious life, bleeding into consciousness off and on.

I do feel that coming to terms with this polarity is a remnant of spiritual lessons from another life. I really do sense that I began this life picking up where I left off. I think I've always sensed it but as a child, I had no words or abstract concepts to really express it. Maybe you're right, Ailish. Maybe my soul is urging me to complete the lesson so I can move on to the next lesson, as embodied by the crown chakra, or whatever lesson it may be.

 :D I'm impressed you made it through all my long-winded descriptions! Hehe. But seriously, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for taking the time to read through it all. And for your kind words, again. ;) It's wonderful to be able to express and record thoughts and experiences of this nature somewhere and share it with others who are genuinely interested and compassionate. Yay for a safe space. :)

Your experiences intrigue me. I rarely experience "movies" playing in my head. Although, I have had peaceful visuals like yours that don't seem to have any direct connection to the information I'm receiving at the time. But these visuals are almost always more snapshots (sometimes 3D snapshots) than fluid, with exception to the few I've shared in this thread.

I'll almost always have an "electric tingling" sensation just before, during, and often after an Imprinting.

I'll feel just such an electric tingling when I go to sleep at night, ocassionally hearing voices and music I can't quite make out most of the time. The tingling shifts upward in intensity when information comes to me in an instant or when I'm consciously extending my spiritual attenae up and out, through meditation or otherwise.

I think "imprinting" is an excellent way to describe instantaneous, massive information relay though. If I may let my inner computer geek shine through, it's a lot like receiving a radically compressed zip file and the hours/days/months it takes to sort through it is analagous to letting the unzipping software -- the mind -- decompress it and make sense of it for me to look at and analyze accordingly.

I wonder why visual information comes so easily to most of the people I know and why I receive information the way I do. I wonder if my receiving style reveals something about the nature of my soul -- and perhaps my past and what I need to work on for today.

What astounds me about your posts is that although I was a professional writer most of my life, I doubt if I could ever match your clarity of detail. Your sincerity and openness are excellent indicators to me that your experiences are very real, and that you are a gifted young woman.

:o Aw, you make me blush. You and Deborah both. Writing has always been home to me. It's been the most steady and stationary thing in my life, an anchor to my core self whenever I felt disconnected. Writing has never merely been a means of communication for me. It's been vital to maintaining sanity. ;) And it's a passion, I suppose. I write to discover what I already knew. I also learn when I write -- about the nature of things, about others, about myself -- so it's an expansion tool of sorts.

Who knows, maybe I'll be a writer someday.

I think you already are! :D

What a wise woman your mother was. It's wonderful that she was able to share the gift of her insight with you, Chansa. I'm sure she would be very proud of how intelligent and balanced you are. You always present yourself -- and your thoughts -- extremely well.

Words of wisdom -- it is better to be the oak tree, gently bending through the storm of life. More difficult at times, but definitely better in the end. ;)

Perhaps the tautness and pressure I experience in the third eye region is related to this ongoing tug-of-war.

I'm curious about the actual feeling you get in the Ajna region. I find that in my experience -- when I am deeply contemplative while meditating, I feel like my third eye area is "folding in" on itself and then opening (think of a flower blossoming). It is a physical pressure, not exactly painful, but a little distracting and uncomfortable at times. I also get the exact same feeling on the crown of my head. I find that the intensity of the feeling is definitely heightened by binaural sounds.

Have you taken Deborah's suggestion and read The Isaiah Effect yet? I think you'd really enjoy it. I just finished it -- I couldn't put it down! :D

Ailish

I agree completely with Ailish. You most definately are very much an accomplished and gifted writer.

John

:o  I guess I AM a writer, in the sense that I enjoy writing so much and do it as often as I do. But to hear "you write well" from those I think write well means a lot to me. :) Thank you so much.

Actually, your description of the sensations you get in the Ajna region is pretty accurate. :) The "blossoming" feeling is a new experience for me. The first time I felt that release was two years ago and it was a great relief, like a clog had finally sprung free.

However, despite that relief, I still experience lots of pressure most of the time. The pressure feels like a clog, as I just said. The blossoming doesn't happen every time though. I guess that's because it's semi-new to me and I didn't have any control over when it happened until maybe two months ago, and it's partial control at best.

It feels as though massive energy is building up behind a closed fist. It reminds me, for some reason, of one of those Chinese finger traps -- the more the energy builds and struggles to get free, the tighter the fist becomes. As the cycle progresses the pressure mounts to the point of bordering pain. I feel trapped sometimes and - now only very, very rarely - the trapped feeling can be accompanied by anxiety or frustration or panic.

For this reason, I've come to find the Jonathan Goldman CD (The Lost Chord), a welcome friend for a lot of nights. After maybe a minute, five at most, of listening to the first track, the fist in my forehead opens up and the energy simply gushes out, surprisingly gentle despite being locked up for so long. Sometimes I sense the released energy flow back down onto me, like rain, tickling me all over, especially my crown and face. This only adds to the intense energy already flowing up and down my spine by this time.

Because I didn't want to become too dependent on the CD, I've actually successfully willed the Ajna region to release its energy without the aid of binaural beats. I'm not sure how I did it and it doesn't work every time, but it's definitely a vast improvement. :) After each struggle, I have to wonder why this clog seems so difficult for me to release and WHY it's there in the first place. Again, my suspicions lead me to believe the answer lies in a past life.

As for the Isaiah Effect, I recently saw it in two bookstores and flipped through it. I liked what I did read so I really hope the library in my area has a copy. :)

Hiya Chansa,

You've been away for a little while, so I thought I'd check in and see how the "blossoming" and "release" is going. ;)

Have you found you've been able to gain any more control over the sensations in your Ajna region since you last wrote?

Ailish :)
