past life tidbits?

Most of you here seem to have gotten more than a glimpse of at least one PL... I'm envious because I have only had little tidbits that have come along.

First was a vision that just occurred spontaneously when I was on cross country drive with partner (I was about 41 at the time). When I told him about the vision (he was driving), he asked me some questions which I was able to answer from some sort of "knowing". But I've never been able to validate the vision.

One thing the vision did do, was connect to an image of "me" that had arisen in a particularly vivid dream when I was in my twenties.

And whereas there is very little "emotion" in the vision, aside from a feeling of having just been betrayed...the dream was intensely emotional, romantic (even erotic).

I was a female, and dressed in a long-skirted dress, solid blue with a sort of white bodice. I wore boots, and it seemed there were layers of petticoat. In my earlier dream I also wore a blue bonnet.

In the later vision, I saw myself being drowned by some people (they knew me). It seemed I was thrown from a small boat, and then refused any lifesaving maneuver. They threw things at me and waited until I stopped struggling and drowned. My skirts were heavy and they pulled my body down. At first I believed I could save myself because I was (and am in this life) strong. But I couldn't keep up the effort against the drag of my skirts and boots. I felt utterly betrayed. It seemed like it was dark, but I am not sure of the time of day.

My partner asked what I was feeling as I viewed my lifeless body floating in the water - suspended like a puppet below the surface, with my long hair trailing in the current. I told him I only felt a little surprise...these were my people! And they just drowned me! But I didn't feel anything else...just watched my body float.

I had a sense that they did this because they believed I was a witch. But they didn't drown witches did they?

Anyway -- I've had a couple of other little snippets of this "life" but nothing that gives me any real sense of identity as I see others here enjoy.

If you have any thoughts I would appreciate hearing them... I'm fairly well grounded in science as well as the esoteric but am at a loss where past lives are concerned.

For myself, a bit of what I report is the culmination of little snippets. Cullough (a name I haven't verified but it feels right) first came to me in the form of a young boy watching a sword being forged and becoming enamored with the blade. Just a quick glimpse and nothing more. Little by little did snapshots come through until I knew a bit more about his life. It still looked like an incomplete jigsaw puzzle, but sometimes I can surmise from what's missing what should be there. Eventually I was able to put together a sequence of events, like a detective trying to assemble a collection of photographs in choronological order, following this headstrong, foolhardy kid from his grand plan for fame and wealth to his death in a frozen forest, cold, alone, and angry.

Witches and drowning have gone hand-in-hand for sometime, but I haven't read any reports myself where they were tossed off a boat unless heavy things had been securely tied to them. Did you notice what style of clothes they were wearing? What language they might have been speaking? Any sense of where you were geographically? Emotions? (I usually tie strongly to emotions felt in a vision.)

Language (I dont recall hearing much conversation) was English.

In dream, she and a young man were on a picnic, in a wooded area with a meadow and a pond. He wore a jacket (like a riding jacket) and beneath it he wore a shirt that tied. In my dream I untied his shirt one tie at a time, then............ (the rest is censored). I didn't recognize him as anyone I know now.

Another snippet of this same woman (always young) she was wearing the blue bonnet -- she/I was getting into (or out of?) a buggy. I was helped by an older man with mutton chop whiskers, and a stand up collar with a tie. I "know" that he is my uncle. His jacket appears to be of good cloth - wool? - and we are near a dock or harbor because I can see ships at dock. They are wooden ships.

I speak and I hear that I am speaking English but with an accent - sort of cockney sounding though since I'm not a linguist that's just what it sounded to me when I heard it.

Kmckuin, you are not the only one with "tidbits" of past lives to digest. I have never had a regression because there is no-one that I can find who does this sort of therapy in my region. I live in Australia. I access my past life bits and pieces from meditation and dreams. One of the most shocking fragments of memory I had came up one morning while I was waking up.:eek: For a single second I saw a scene inside a dark palace. I was standing very close to a number of other people (our clothes were touching) I was richly dressed in a brocaded gown with a stiff lace collar or ruff. I knew I was female. I could hear the rustling of the other peoples' clothes. I knew that I was going to be murdered! The fear was electrifying! More intense than anything I have ever felt in this life. I knew I was going to be stabbed with a dagger! Then the scene was gone. Unforgettable!:freak:I am attracted to Tudor England in this life.

Thanks for sharing Gerania. I understand -- so not everyone is getting the "whole tamale" so to speak?

I have other snippets from other times, too. It is frustrating to me to get only little clips and not enough understanding of the situation to shed any light. I wonder what the purpose of recalling ANY of it is, if I can't access the rest of it.... puzzling.

Yeah, it's not common (to my knowledge, at least) for someone to get the full-length feature film version of a past life in one shot. It's possible that we get the snippets that we do mostly when we need them. If I were you, I'd be asking myself things like:

  • Did I personally know these people?
  • Were they friends, acquaintances, or realtives? How did I know them?
  • Did I get into that boat of my own accord or was I "sentenced" there?
  • Did I know I was going to die?
  • Can I relate this scene to something that's going on in my current life?

A lot of folks here suggest the keeping of a journal for your memories. Record your feelings, what you see, hear, smell, touch, or taste, etc. to the best of your abilities without forcing anything. Your mind will try to fill in the blanks on its own, so it's best to keep in mind that you may not have all that information in one scene at the moment. Record what you do have regardless. Even if it seems outlandish, it may make itself clear later on. You might be able to assemble larger and larger scenes by going back and reading through it now and then.

In Scotland, women who were accused of being witches were often thrown into a loch (lake) and if they floated, they were witches. If they drowned, they were not. Very unfortunate for the women either way. In those days, they wore so many layers of clothing that they usually drowned - dragged down by the weight of their clothing - and unable to help theirselves because their hands and/or feet were usually bound also.

When you mentioned a "shirt that tied" did the shirt look like this: http://www.tomsawyerwaistcoats.co.uk/store/showitemJACOBITE.aspx.

Some information from Wikipedia:

A Ghillie shirt, also known as Jacobean or Jacobite, is an informal traditional shirt usually worn with a kilt. The term Ghillie refers to the criss-crossed lacing style as also seen on the Ghillie Brogue. Ghillie shirts are considered to be more casual than their shirt and waist-coat counterpart that is normally seen with the kilt. The Ghillie shirt existed before the kilt, with there being no documentation for kilts until 1575.
Seems the shirt was also worn extensively in colonial America.

Modern "ghillie" or "jacobite" shirts are to my perhaps undiscriminating eye very similar to the shirts worn by Colonial Williamsburg employees when representing 18th century colonial American laborers or artisans, some of whom surely were Scottish immigrants. I therefore consider them appropriate for wear with kilts in informal situations. I also believe that there is too little specific historical information about the details of the construction of the leine to rule out the possibility that the ghillie shirt is a descendant of the leine.
So I conclude that whether to wear such a shirt with a kilt is entirely a matter of taste.

I hope this helps.

kmckuin - thank you for sharing. That is quite a 'tidbit' of PL memory!

As others have already said, it was common practice to drown witches. The style of your 'bonnet' would help you date the era of this life, as the shirt Midnight.Sapphires linked was common for many centuries in more then one country. Would you describe the bonnet like a traditional 'prairie/American frontier' bonnet, or perhaps it looked more like one of these?:

or one of these:

thanks for the links and info Lady2 and Midnight.Sapphires! I've seen prairie bonnets - my great grandmother kept one (and made whenever she needed another) for yard-work - "to keep the sun off her face" she told me. She said all the women used to wear them, and she did too when she was coming out west with the wagon train.

The bonnet more resembled the second link - the "country cap" but it seemed a little fancier because it was not white, and didn't seem to be made of cotton. It wasn't adorned with lots of ribbon or other decorations though.

The shirt seemed to have more than one tie down the front - 3 I think. No ruffles. But the dream was so long ago that I may have forgotten the precise details. When I try to visualize it, it is easy to see me untying first, then unraveling the rest (might seem like untying?) I don't want to make it up, though.

I don't know about the difference between formal and informal occasions in earlier times. On a "date" with a gentleman, might seem more formal? And being in town with uncle -- also a little dressier? Don't know about this. Also, the dress itself was different on drowning (I just knew it was same woman) and there was no bonnet.

And thanks for the details about witch-drowning. I have never been able to verify this part of the vision. I did have another vision that seemed related to the lifetime: I saw myself trying to tell the people where I lived that something bad was about to happen. A big storm or something equally disastrous. They told me to stop talking about it, and stubborn me (still part of me!) I wouldn't because I was convinced that if someone would listen then something could be done. I saw how fearful and angry the people were. It was just unfathomable that if I could tell them what was going to happen they would blame me for it.

Interestingly - one of my life-long has been knowing when I should say something and when I should not. Also took a determined effort (years long) to learn to speak in front of others without extreme distress.

Anyway, thanks again for contributing to my understanding!!

I thought the second link would be similar to what you remembered, but I linked both so you could compare. I do reenacting of the late 1700s through the mid 1800s, so I know a little about clothing that was popular at the time...The 'country cap' was very popular in 1832, commonly worn in the 1830s and earlier. The other cap, often called a 'Molly cap' came later then the country cap (though fashions do overlap).

Glad I could be of some help to your past life research! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask anytime!
