Hi all,

Recently my family dog of 14 years passed away after quietly suffering from a brain tumour.
She fought it out till the end. The night before she went to sleep my parents lay with her while she was sneezing blood and crying in pain. My dad, although being highly skeptical of spirituality, said they had the most profound experience that night. Our dog was suffering and her heart was racing and they felt that she might die in those early hours in the morning.

Then suddenly she would sit bolt upright, ears forward, staring at something in the dining room. After that, she was calm.

When I arrived the next morning to accompany her to the vet I noticed how she was looking at me as we sat on the deck watching her in the garden. The only way I could describe it would be a grandmotherly, proud and loving expression (it sounds bizarre for a dog but she never looked at me that way before). We hope that my grandfather or great-grandmother came to reassure her and take her into the spiritual plane.

I also wondered whether it was possible for a deceased grandparent to have had some sort of influence on that expression I saw in my dog. I can't stop thinking about it.

I read that pets have souls, and I definitely believe in that, and when we die we will reunite with them again, so I guess your grandma was the one that your dog saw when she was in the dining room?


I remember that our dog, which died last Jan. 2013 when he was breathing his last breaths and was lying flat on the ground, seemed to wave his paws upward, it's like he was waving at something up there that we can't see. His head and body were lying sideways flat on the ground, but he seemed to wave and raise his head a bit to something unseen. I can't remember if his eyes was closed or it was open when it happened. Could he be waving at his also dead mom? Or to a human? I doubt it though. He only knew 3 of us ever since he was a puppy.


So since everyone turns into a spirit when they die, then I guess your grandma may have had something to do with that incident. Who knows right?

Years ago, an elderly family friend of my family had a male cat, lets call him Bruno, which would be a good name for him, he was a battle scarred scrapper who my friend rescued from the neighborhood alley ways.


She had him "fixed" and he settled down to a quiet and sedentary house cat, for if she had not, he would not have lived as long as he did, but sooner or later, old age took it's toil and Bruno was quietly slipping away into spirit.


Bruno always liked me and sensed that I was an animal lover all of my life, and that night he died was no different as I sat on the floor with Bruno on a pillow and petted him to calm him and soothe him that night.


My friend couldn't bring herself to see him die, so she laid in her Bedroom and cried, while I, being around death so much, was elected to stay with Bruno that night and around 3:00 AM his breathing became labored and he would close his eyes, then suddenly sit up and look at the un-lit fireplace, as if he was looking at something.


I called out to my friend who finally got up enough strength to sit with him also and her presence calmed him even more and several minutes later, he passed into Spirit, with my friend holding him in her lap.


We talked late into the night almost till dawn and being too tired to drive through rush hour traffic, I fell asleep for several hours, sleeping on the sofa in the Living Room and as I slowly woke up, it felt like to me that Bruno was sleeping on my stomach, but the feeling slowly faded the more awake I became.


As the months went on, my friend adopted an abandoned kitten, who avoids the area around the fireplace and my friend reported back then, that on occasion, she would feel a pressure or a weight while sitting in her recliner with the kitten.


Several years later, I ran on a call to her, where we transported her to the Hospital for the last time and I dreamed several days later, where Bruno was patiently waiting for her at the foot of a bridge as my family friend came through the veil.


Sorry for such a long post.

So your friend, Bruno's master, passed away already? I guess they are now together in the afterlife.


Maybe Bruno was jealous of the new kitten and the kitten sensed a threatening energy or even sees Bruno's spirit near the fireplace?


And who is now taking care of her kitten?

I have been reading the experiences posted on the NDERF site; (that is near-death- experiences) and have read several accounts where people pass over for a while and encounter their beloved pets again. Yeah, I believe love is eternal.

Thanks for your replies everyone. We continued to feel her presence for a couple of months after she passed away (this was in May). My mum visited a healer recently who has some psychic abilities. She said that my grandfather has been taking care of our dog and has been taking her for walks along the beach (probably her favourite place). Oddly enough, I asked him to do just that when she passed on. Both my mum and the healer didn't know this


I found the whole experience interesting as it challenges some critical theories around human consciousness and experiencing hallucinations before we die. Perhaps if dogs are able to experience these 'hallucinations' too, they aren't hallucinations after all? I'm sure many scientists would challenge the idea of dogs just 'seeing what they want to see' - which is how they explain away human experiences. Are their minds capable of this? A dog probably doesn't have any concept of the afterlife, or being taken into the afterlife when they die.

This all happened years ago, just after I joined the FD, if I remember correctly, a younger out of town relative adopted the kitten which was almost grown by the time her owner died,


As usual, the house and contents were auctioned off and the relatives went home, and the new owner of the kitten/cat (along with the other relatives) she and I lost track of each other.


Actually, the kitten never seemed scared of the possible Ghost of Bruno, it almost felt like the kitten was being respectful of the possible presence of Bruno.
