Did ur daughter mention 'Pooba'? I might be a nickname for a kid. We have unusual names like 'Pappu', 'Bubba' for kids.

In hindi, Father's elder brother (Tau), younger brother (Poofa), Father's cousin are called differently not unlike english where you can conveniently call them all 'Uncle'.

So 'Pooba' might also mean 'Poofa'. If there are any other hindi words that your daughter is using do tell me. I will try my best find their meaning.

No problem, Sumi. Thanks for your answer- interesting! there might be something to what you´re saying though I´m sure she said Pooba with a "b". I did find an Indian guy named Pooba Something (he was a scentist of same sort). Can´t find it now, though, thought I bookmarked it!... And there are evidently many people called that name as a last name.

Do you think it might be from any of the other Indian languages? Or is it specifically very hindi-sounding?

Here are some other words she´s been using (have no idea wether they are hindu or Indian, at all!) mimiyagi, Chaleta(town or place), Namin, Masin (names)...

seems to me like you are daughter is not speaking hindi after all. They seem like a different Indian language. Might be gujarati or bengali. Anyway i will keep a look out for these words in case i find out what they mean
