Randolph, Tennessee

I recently had a very vivid dream that didn't make sense to me, and I was wondering if anyone could answer some of my questions.

I have never believed in reincarnation, being a devout Christian. But ever since this dream, I've begun questioning my thoughts on the subject. Every time I try to discuss it with my mother, bringing up personal stories of others and mind-blowing evidence, all she says is that it's the work of the devil. I just wish someone would talk to me about it!

Anyways, the dream was, like most dreams, slightly confusing, and had many details that I could tell weren't correct. Some of the details included things from my real life, including a dog that I know. However, there were tons of details that I never would have dreamed normally. First, I was living in the south, (I'm not sure which state, although I believe it was Tennessee), where I have never actually visited, only driven through on very rare occasions! Second, none of my family members in my dream were family members of my real life! I knew I had a father, a mother, and a few siblings, which is strange because I only have a brother. One of the siblings in my dream had a very strange nickname: Blue Dixie. That struck me as unusual from the beginning. My family and I lived in a run down house during the Civil War (why would I be dreaming about the Civil War?) and while we had guests over, we heard news that the Union soldiers were coming, burning everything in their path. So my family, our friends, and I began to panic. I told the boy I was in love with to run to the nearby river (it was strange because I knew which direction the river was) and wait for me there, because I had to go back to the house to get some precious locket (who runs into danger for a locket?).

Then, it changed the point of view. Suddenly, I wasn't me (Sarah), I was running next to the boy that I loved, almost as if I was a ghost. And then, I heard his voice in my head, except he wasn't speaking in the dream. It was almost as if he was telling me a story. He said, "Now, to this day, I don't know whether the Union soldiers burned the house because they knew Sarah was inside, or simply for the sake of burning it. Either way, I never forgave myself for abandoning her that night." Then, the boy ran back to the house, where the Union soldiers had arrived. I still stood next to him. The house was on fire, and the Union soldiers were running around, gathering up my family and our friends that had been there. Many were attempting to escape, and I watched as one soldier killed Blue Dixie. After that, the dream became unclear.

I don't understand why I would be dreaming about the Confederate side of the war. I live in the North, and have always been avidly horrified by slavery. I have never spent any time in southern states. And it sounds weird, but I watched the music video for "Safe and Sound" after this dream, and I found that the lyrics and images in the video made me extremely emotional, and I started crying. I'm really confused! Someone please respond. Sorry its so long.

Hi bluedixie, welcome to the forum :)

Thanks for sharing your experience, it sounds to me like you were remembering a past life, and this is perfectly normal, so there is nothing to be alarmed about. Many of us remember our past lives through dreams or spontaneously, but the majority don't give it much thought, or dismiss it as imagination.

You may be surprised to hear that Christianity and Reincarnation can work together, and many of our members are practising Christians. You may also be surprised to hear that nearly all reference to reincarnation was deleted from the Bible for reasons which may become clearer if you read this thread: Dogma Bites Man

I'm sure others will be along to give you much better answers than mine, but I've given you something to read and think about until then. One thing you can be sure of, remembering your past lives has nothing to do with Satan ;)

Welcome,

Very interesting dream with a lot of details. It isn't uncommon for people to be drawn to the opposite of where they were. The book OLD SOULS talks about it to some degree and so does Roger Woolger in his books.

Have you tried looking up Blue Dixie?

You will find more information in the thread Choice, Planning and Guided sessions.

Welcome to the forum Bluedixie! Thank you for sharing your dream - I am glad you've joined us here on the past life forum; you will soon realize you are not alone with trying to understand your experiences.

Your dream sounds very much like you're remembering a past life of yours. Have you ever thought of trying to learn more? Maybe doing self regression or meditation?

Again - Welcome! :)

Randolph, Tennessee does exist

According to Wikipedia, Randolph, Tennessee does exist, on the Mississippi river. Having lived in Tennessee I can tell you that this means it's in the heart of plantation Tennessee. (Not all of the state was plantations.) It was a major cotton exporter before the Civil War. During the war, it was the site of a Confederate fort and was burned twice by the Union Army.

I'm a Christian, BTW, who believes in reincarnation.

Thank you all for your insight! It really helped a lot.

That's really funny though, because I did research on Randolph, and according to Google maps it's right on the Mississippi. I'm not sure that was the town where my dream took place but I thought it was eerily similar, which is why I listed it as my title.

I have tried looking up Blue Dixie, and found nothing, unfortunately.

Thank you, all of you!

You asked why you would return for a locket. Way back when they often kept cuttings of a loved one's hair in a locket after they died. Perhaps a picture on one side, the hair on the other. Lockets were very important then.

It sounds like you remember the time just after you died, and you were able to hear what your loved one was saying. Totally cool, if you ask me. :)

Randolph, Tennessee isn't terribly far from where I grew up. My family is very very Southern, so the kind of story you're telling sounds similar to stories from my family's history--meaning I think it's very legitimate, and very easily a past life.

I don't think there's any problem, really, with dreaming about (or having had a past life from) another "side" during a war. I personally think souls from past lives choose us for a reason. Maybe you're a very sympathetic or understanding person in this life who can really help your past self in some way?

Welcome Bluedixie, thanks for joining us and telling your story. There are many reasons why we are given glimpses of our past lives. I suggest you begin today keeping a journal of all of these thoughts. Sometimes as you free write words will "happen" and things may become clearer. Be mindful of everything and everyone around you... your life now is what is important, but the triggers for this past life memory might be something right in front of you. Life is a wonderful journey proceed with an open mind and and open heart, you won't go wrong.

PS I too am a practicing Christian and I know reincarnation to be very real.

I met with a group of Christians whose teachings were based on The Bible. When I talked about reincarnation and my experiences one of the ladies asked me how I related it to the teachings of The Bible.

My reply was, "I simply don't try to."

I know reincarnation is real. I have found absolute proof from a wide variety of sources.
