Random Memories

So, does anyone else have random memories or recognitions? Here are a couple of mine:

- the sound of a conch shell horn

- a culture where we thought that crossed eyes were a sign of beauty and sexiness

I have an odd body memory. I know exactly how it feels to be extremely flexible. For example I know how it feels and how to manipulate my body to go from a sitting position into a backwards walk-over. In this life, my body has never been flexible enough or muscles strong enough to actually do any of those types of body manipulations or gymnastics, but I feel like I should be able to do it without any effort. I have no idea where the memory comes from, but certain sitting or standing positions will trigger it.

Another odd memory (again it is more sensory than anything) is the feeling of wearing a heavy gown with a train and some type of heavy headress that comes down onto the forhead. This one will come on suddenly if I'm walking slowly down a staircase. (Sometimes I will purposely walk slowly down a staircase just to see if I can get more impressions  ) I can feel the train pulling behind me on the stairs and am very concious of balancing the weight on my head. With it sometimes I'll get an impression of a marble staircase and lots of gilding everywhere and the thought "court" comes to mind. Weird. :)

Since reincarnation is a reality, there is no such thing as an odd body memory. I have body memories of things that I could not possibly ever experience in this life.

the warmth of a good old summer southern sunset... ahh... that sounds so nice right now...
also, night life in spain... yes...

They are odd in the sense that I have no other memories that would give me a clue as to a life they may come from. ;)

I just wanted to say that I love this thread, but I haven't been able to think about anything to post. But it's very interesting to read about your memories!

Well Chelle's feeling reminds me of something I have, but I'm not sure if it's PL related: I often get this sudden urge to stand on my head or do some extreme gymnastics. I mean I never do, but I just really feel like it. It's so strange I wouldn't talk about this anywhere else. :o

And sometimes I see flashes that I don't know where they come from. Like once during a streching class when I was very relaxed, I could see an old stone slab and there were grass growing on its sides, like coming underneath it, and I immediately think "Italy". But I don't know anything I could link this flash with  .

Hi, everyone.
I've been lurking around this forum for a few weeks now, and I finally decided to join in on the conversation. Lots of interesting stuff here. I'm fascinated by the idea of reincarnation. I also have a handful of odd "memories" or "dreams" from my childhood, in addition to a strong resonation with things from before my time (born in the early 80's) that have lead me to wonder if I have not "been here before..."

Just recently, I wrote down the images that I can most clearly recall. These are all from (as far as I remember) age five and younger:
-walking outside and looking into a small home, with an old fashioned iron stove
-being in a large, dark room, feeling croded by people around me, with flashing laser-type lighting in front of me(reminiscent of maybe a concert)
-sitting on a bed in a sun-filled room facing an old-fashioned TV (this one was wierd because it took place in an area that reminded me of a room in my house at the time. But when I asked my mother if we had ever had furniture/tv's in that part of the house, she said "no")
-going up a hill in a car, reclined or laying flat, looking at the flowers on the hill, listening to some type of music (this very well may have been an early memory from my infant/toddler years)

Then there are images I'm not sure if I imagined or not:
-Being in a dimly-lit restaurant or bar, environment felt like something from the 60's or 70's
-Standing on a stage (or watching someone on a stage) in fancy clothing
-Standing in the middle of what may have been a desert, or some other empty area. Large hill or cliffside to the right of me, its nice and sunny outside and I'm all alone

And then there are those weird "was it just a dream" moments I've been reflecting on:
-age 6 or 7: Some (invisible) force is trying to pull me up into the air by my waist, and I'm scared, holding on to my bedpost for dear life.
-Age 7 or 8: I start floating above my bed, I look down at the tv which is on, and at a poster that hung by my bed. I feel wierd, and suddenly I get the sensation that my nose is bleeding.
-about 1 and a half years ago: I'm laying in my bed with my eyes closed, when suddenly I see flashes of color in front of my (closed) eyes and I hear a deep voice that seems to be coming from everywhere. I feels someone hugging me around the waist, and the voice is describing to me who he is, with many descriptions all beginning with "I am..." From what I can recall, the voice was equating himself to God.

I often have this urge to sing... :D
I love singing but the problem is that my voice doesn't help me much... :o
I got a karaoke machine for birthday a few years ago and even made a fool of myself singing in a bar before... :D
Maybe i was a singer in one of my PL's and that's why i have this odd feeling that i can sing...

What fascinating memory flashes you all have! It was very interesting to read. here are some of mine:

Cold, fresh wind blows through the trees. I´m standing on the slope of a mountain, and overlook the scenery. ("France, Stone-age, pops in my head)

I see that my hands are covered with oil paints, may colours, some are old.

An enpty attic. It´s dark and the sunlight comes from the roof window. I look down and see me wearing red children´s shoes (girl shoes, amybe laquer or leather).

When I encountered one certain person at the university I always felt a huge urge to run away and hide, I was terrified. I smelled the rotten, dusty air, like in a tomb or dungeon. And I always "saw" this image of a room with stone walls, vaulted ceiling, dust and spiderwebs. It was cold down there.

Recently I had a flash of me walking into a house made of branches and mud. I am stepping inside this hut, and see the sunlight through the holes of the branches. (could be an typical iron age dwellling).

I had a pastlife memory in Medieval Europe, rolling hills with a castle in the distance. What stood-out was an eerie trumpet sound that sent chills down my spine. Usually a trumpet isn't associated with fear, but that sound (even just remembering it now) evokes emotions such as anxiety and tension. I later found-out that it was a warning to the locals of an invading army.

This thread has triggered some interesting memories, subtle scenes from past lifetimes. One of them is a farmlike wooden house, pots and clothes dangling from wires. The back has tall thick grass, lots of odd gardening stuff all over the place. The second is detention center, a holding area for criminals and thieves, possibly in the 1800's. I keep on seeing this man with a deranged smile on his face lounging against the wall. He is either possibly mentally ill or drunk.

The third is the most disturbing, in a nutshell, it appears like a gas-chamber possibly from WWII or some sort of mass torture-chamber. I'm seeing a person with a pained-howling screaming expression on his face, basically aware of impending death. What's interesting is that I see no gas/haze, I see large orange flames or fire, bright and intense. Someone interpreted this as prisoners being burned alive.

every once in awhile an odd word will make it's way into a conversation.
(a different accent than my good old New York accent) and me and my sister will just laugh and go on a tangent. I think some of the words are Olde English. It's kinda funny when they slip out. Even sometimes when I write, I'll spell colour instead of the american way of color (the way I was taught to spell) or check will become cheque or something like that.

Hi, I am new to this forum, so here I come with my little "flash" which I have since I was a small girl.

I can often see myself in a brief flash of memory as a noble lady driving red bugatti.
It is nice late spring day, I have dark brown thick hair and I wear large beige hat. I feel very happy and comfortable and confident. I would date this memory somewhere between 1920 - 1925, regarding the hairstyle and a hat. I have pearl earrings.

Funny is that my parents always used to say, that I behave "too posh to be born in our family." :) )

The sad thing is, that I cannot "see" more. I just feel that I died sometime around 1965.

Hi DarkFairy,

Welcome to the forum! :D Thanks for sharing your memory with us! Do you have any idea what country you may have been in at the time? I look forward to reading more of your posts ;)

Welcome to the forum DarkFairy! :)

I immediately felt very comfortable reading about your memory as it reminds me of some of my past lives. Thanks! :D

I'm sure one day you'll find out more about this flash. I'd say just listen to your intuition and perhaps try to meditate concentrating on the flash. You could also try regression therapy or self-regression if you're interested in your past lives.

Hello to all.
Ailish> I am pretty sure it must be central europe. I am Czech originally, and
this seems to be pretty close. Maybe the same country. Also, I got the feeling I drive on the left, in CZ we drive on the right side, however before WW2 it was not so...
writing this down, this reminds me, when I was in UK, I felt much more comfortable driving there - on the left side. Hmm...

Karoliiina > I keep trying. :)
tx for support. :)

Hello all. I'm new here. My name is Shanna.... I've been lurking for a while, and this thread just caught my attention. :)

I have a memory of running through a forest. There are people behind me, too far for me to see them, but I know they're there. It's back around the time of the Romans I suppose, and I am very drawn to Greece, so I assume its there. Anyway, I am running to tell the leader of my people or my army something (I have a feeling that I am second in command). The people who are following me are coming to attack my army, and I am trying to warn my leader before they get there. I feel like I'd overheard something that I wasn't supposed to, some military plan of theirs that will help my people.

Anyway, I'm running as fast as I can, dodging trees and jumping over stuff. I end up putting my hand on a tree for balance as I run past it, and I can actually feel (right now as i'm sitting here typing this) the bark scrape my hand as I drag it across the trunk. That's pretty much where the memory ends, but I do remember feeling only slightly scared. Not even scared really. I actually feel very confident that I will get to my leader in time, and that the information that I have will help my people, but I am very aware of the urgency of the whole thing.

Actually, I just thought of something else that was triggered by a television show. It relates to the same memory. In the show, someone is running through some trees and they trip and fall. When I saw it, I remembered fighting (I had a bow and arrows), and one of the people who was also fighting (one of the women in my army) was running and she fell. I remember screaming "Get up! Now! Get up!" because someone was right behind her with a sword and she didn't know. I wish I could see the clothes of the person who was behind her, as that would probably help me figure out what's actually going on... Oh well. Maybe eventually. :)

I remembered another random memory to share while driving past the site of an old hospital building. From the time I was 2 or 3 years old, I was terrified of going into a hospital. I had this image in my head that I just couldn't shake, and even today it sits at the back of my mind, although it doesn't have the power it used to. The image that would come to mind was that of corridors filled with bodies that were covered with sheets. No matter what the actual hospital actually looked like, upon stepping in the doors I would see green walls, tiled floor and sheet-covered bodies laying on tables and I was so terrified and tense that it was all I could do to continue into the building. Sometimes I would just burst into tears, and it was always such a huge relief to leave.

These days, hospitals don't bother me and although sometimes that image still comes to mind, it doesn't take over my vision or have the power to affect me like it used to.

Remembering that reminded me of something that happened that I think may have been connected to the memory, though. A little over 10 years ago I had to have blood drawn at a military hospital. The room where they did this was set up with a number stations for this, chairs lined up against the wall with a table next to each and in the back a hospital bed for those who tended to faint. Upon entering the room, I immediately went into a panic, started to faint and began counting in french. As it turned out, the nurse was French and he assumed I was too since I was speaking it fluently, and I wasn't answering anyone's questions in English! He started talking me through it and carrying on a conversation with me in French. I don't remember what was said, but my husband said that the nurse said we were talking about France among other things. What was really odd about this was that I do not speak French fluently (I took French in high school and I'm told I have a thick Canadian accent, which in itself is funny since I'm an American, and I usually have to hunt for the right words).

So anyways, an odd memory and an odd reaction. :)

Hi Shayanne,

It sounds to me like something that predated the Roman's too. I believe that there were many groups of women warriors living outside and fighting against patriarchal societies back then, however since the victors write the history books, very little of their culture remains except in stories and folklore. It sounds like a fascinating memory and I'd love to know what you find out when you find time to research into it. :)

Mine are i feel like im native american. im always buying herbs for which i do not use. I dont know why, but when i see them i feel i NEED to get them, im not even sure in what foods to use some of them.
Allspice, Basil Leaves, Sage, Bay leaves, Beet powder, Caraway Seeds, Cardamom, Cloves, Coriander, Fennel Seed, Ginger Root, Juniper Berries, Sea Salt, Rosemary.
I LOVE native american music. I listen to it and its almost like i go into a trance and im free. i also look native american and as far as i know i dont have native american ancestry.

i also LOVE getting and going thru old photographs. what i mean as old is, 1800's early 1900's. thats the first thing i look for in antique shops.

i also out of the blue, while just gazing into the sky, said, "I need to get back to Georgia". I know noone who lives there or noone by the name. But, i love the decor of the south and the homes. ive longed to go to the south, almost like im home sick. Im not sure of any connections there, but i do hope to find out.

I have a flash of being wrapped in a blanket and taken from my room. I am wearing knitted slippers and one falls off of my foot, then I am falling to the ground and it's snowy and cold. I am being carried to a covered, black carriage.

I used to figure skate and often dreamed of skating, but one recurring dream I've had is skating on a frozen pond and falling through the ice. My body drifts a little in the undercurrent, and I am no longer where I fell in, but under the ice. I am pounding on it, trying to free myself, and someone is looking down at me, but cannot help. I will absolutely never skate on anything but an arena now!

Sitting in front of a big stone hearth...a black pot in the fire, hanging from a metal rod.

Martial arts of some sort. I have felt like I could do them since high school but don't have any interest in learning.

Violin rosin. It feels very familliar to me like I'd held it in my hands for years.I can see my hands are weathered and wrinkled.I am taking my bow out of its case and rubbing it with rossin and grinning.I even play for a monent but I'm not sure of the song.I took lessons for a couple of months as a teenager but I always wanted to cry afterward so I stopped. To this day though,I feel I should have a brick of ros in my pocket.

Here's a memory from my past life as Lisbet

I'm with my father and we're fishing in a fairly large lake. He has a fishing rod that looks like he made it himself as it appears to be just a stick and some wire.

I think he's using the rod for the first time, and he's trying to land a very big fish for us to eat. I'm up to my knees in the water and laughing at my father, the rod is nearly bent in half because the fish is so big. He's trying to pull it in, and i'm trying to catch it. The fish is so big and slippery and thrashing about, my hands are only small and clumsy and i'm getting thoroughly soaked.

The rod snaps and my father falls back into the water, the fish escapes with half the rod still attached to it. I try to look concerned for my father, but i'm also trying not to laugh because he doesn't look very happy. :D

The other day I was getting a ride to my parents house anitcipating getting in trouble when suddenly my concious shifted and I was on a horse drawn cart riding to my execution. What a freaky flashback that was and emotionally... I was terrified. When I snapped out of it I was a little shocked at what just happened.

Needless to say it at least made me feel a little bit better about my current disposition with my parents.

I'll have to meditate on that life some more.

That sounds like it was a really fun memory, Chris! :D

Hi HealingHands - have you ever seen anything about this life prior to that experience?

I am very fortunate to have good teeth in this life. I have very seldom needed to visit the dentist. Sometimes if I am tired and can't be bothered to do my teeth properly before bed I get this flash of a life during the middle ages sometime when I was plagued by bad teeth - really, really, rotten and painful, keep you awake all night, make your life miserable tooth problems. Dentists and so on were of course not invented and many people had bad teeth (and bad breath!) but this was a very unpleasant experience.

Sometimes, conversely, when doing my teeth (like a good girl) I get a sense of the enormous delight I would have felt in that former life at having healthy teeth. It is amazing what pleasure I can get out of the simple act of flossing my teeth.

Just a funny little thing, but ... you know.

Well, mine is not so much a memory as much as a response. When I was small, my grandmother worked as a civilian for the air force, and she used to take me on base with her occasionally. I remember being very drawn to the uniforms, the order, and the flags. It felt familiar. In grade school, many times I would lose myself staring at the flag flying out in the court, and it was one of the things that I repeatedly drew for my 'art project'. Was positive I would join the service when I grew up, but chose to be an artist instead.

Clear blue skies with just a few clouds has the same effect.

Not really memories, I know, but strong affinities felt, nonetheless.

Interesting, Archival! Have you thought of trying a meditation surrounding your thoughts and feelings? Things we have a strong affinity for - or pull towards -- are often indications of possible past lives.

I'd be curious to hear your results if you tried a meditation ;)

To be honest, I am not sure I know how to meditate. I know what it is and the principle involved, but have not been too successful in the past.

There was one time when I was sitting outside examining a dandelion when I was transported outside of what I consider normal time. I was in this state of 'awe' at the perfection of the design of this flower, it was exactly what it needed to be to be what it was. Time stood still for what seemed a very long time, and then abruptly started again. Haven't experienced anything like that since. Like when I was a kid with the flag, I can 'lose' myself in a soft slumber like state with certain visual elements as the focus, but I am not sure if this is meditation, since nothing really comes to me other than a soft slumber like state.

I have a lot to learn.
