Reincarnation in the News? A TV show? An Interview?

I was watching CNN today - the Saturday version, when they did a special clip of a Japanese woman who survived the Bomb - Hiroshima. She spoke of the white cloud and the flash of light that came as she watched her little brother running for the house. The special spoke of their struggles after the bomb and how both children lost their hair. The extreme burns, the pain and the fact that her brother died. She thought she would too. The radiation had horrific effects on her - not just physically but emotionally. She was the sweetest woman - so fragile and very old.

She had lived, but her little brother died from complications soon after. He loved music and she thought when they were little he would grow up to be a musician. She was warned as an adult by doctors to never have children due to the traumas of radiation etc. to her body. She did anyway. One son, who is now a musician. She commented on the similarities between her son and her brother. Then she said -- and it was translated on CNN:

"I have often wondered if the spirit of my little brother is reborn in my son."

Has anyone else heard reference to reincarnation on the news? It was a jaw dropper for me. Right before she said it - I felt it, I was so sure and then she said it -- I couldn't believe it - her statement was aired on the news!

Has anyone else heard reference to reincarnation on the news? Or any other live show/special on TV recently? I know there have been a few commercials referencing it.

On the news...heavens, no, but this woman is probably a Buddhist, right? It seems fitting that they would honor her religion and beliefs (especially after her horrific story). If a Muslim had told a simialr story and said, "I praise Allah for giving me my son," they wouldn't have cut it. It wouldn't have been politically correct to cut it.

Now, political correctness and honoring diversity doesn't apply to those of us who are supposed to be good Christians, does it? ;) When that happens, I will really get excited!

Deborah, when they ask you for an interview about your beautiful artwork, slip in a comment about having carried over your artistic ability from a past life and see if they keep it in there. (That would be cool!) :)

I'm not quite sure what you mean. I see this on the news all the time, even more than with other religions. People talk about how they prayed to God and Jesus to have their problems taken care of, their family member healed or found, etc., and it's not cut out.

Mertzie, LOLOL That sounds like an I dare you and if you do then....! *S*S*S*S*S*S
OK I will. Just finished a piece titled - Re-incarnate. Where is the smilie icon with the devil horns?

Just remember - people expect artists to be "wierd" so perhaps it won't be such a big shocker and the news would include it.

Hi Lib - What I meant is that we're not supposed to cross faiths or "make up" our own faith. Christians aren't supposed to believe in reincarnation; they can say whatever they want on TV as long as it follows the party line. Buddhists and Hindus and Muslims born into the faith (or having made a traditional conversion) can speak their minds on TV. It's the rest of us who don't fit into any fundamental category who are marginalized and mocked.

We have freedom of religion in this country as long as it's a traditional religion, but maybe an artist - like Deborah! :D - could get away with it! I would LOVE to see that!

Deborah - Do we get to see "Re-incarnate"?

(P.S. There was an article in the paper yesterday about Jesus and Egypt. :) Sorry to get off-topic.)

LOLOL Yeah of course you can see it. I'll post a link later this month when it's photographed. And yes, I am planning on getting away with it. A visual artist in England already has in a BIG museum. So I won't be the first artist but perhaps the first painter. ;)

Jesus and Egypt? Say where? Say what? On topic or off topic it is a topic I am intrigued by. Any on line references to it? Post it here and call it breaking news. :):):)

Deborah - This may be the fellow you've already told us about. His name is John de Bry, a Florida archaeologist who has produced a documentary called, "Jesus in Egypt." I couldn't get the Seattle Times article.

HI Mertzie,

Nope, not the same guy. Thanks for checking though. Interesting link.

I just got back from a College retreat last night. I was bunked up with two other women from the College, one was the Vice President's wife. Lovely woman, teaches piano classes. To my amazement last night she was talking about her grandson and how much he reminded her of her grandfather. Even the white streak in his hair. Then she said -"Do you suppose my grandson is my grandfather born again?" Well - that was the beginning of a wonderful conversation. :):):)

Seems that reincarnation is making its way to academia in more places than I even imagined.

I've noticed it several times in interviews and on the news. But, it's usually in a *joking* context... like "I'm sure in my past life I was..." or "In my last life I was xyz" (quote from a dinner table filled with churchgoers I heard last Sunday).

It's so amazing how they've incorporated comments like this into their vocabulary jokingly, but refuse to openly accept it as fact. I can't help but think these people on some level do believe ;)

I helped this little old lady out of her yard that had fallen the other week. She was so grateful to me and we were laughing/joking. I told her not to worry I was a nurse in my last life. She smiled and said "God bless you! We need more good Christian girls like you" I had a good laugh about that one later....

I have seen several references on recent TV shows which makes me smile every time. But the funniest thing was last week, one of the women I mentioned from the conference referred to be as Rebecka...stopped herself short and said -"why do I keep calling you that? I keep calling you Rebecka."

I told her, "Someday I'll explain." She said -"You mean it might be a past life name for you?" Boy does she catch on quick. I thought I was dodging. But yep -it was a past life name of mine, and now I am wondering - if she and I were together then. We're having lunch and a long discussion soon.

I think people are slowly coming around...in different ways, from different perspectives. They are curious, and even if they are not aware of it, they want to believe there is more to life than just this one time around.
Anyone else hear of references to reincarnation lately?

Hi Deborah :) ..........

Actually yes I have (though not specifically not in the news per say lol). Ever heard of Billy Crystal, the actor? He once commented on a talk show that when he was making the movie "city slickers" (great movie btw) he felt that he had been there before ala reincarnation and even knew details about the surrounding land before he even saw it with his own eyes. This also happened when he made the sequel too......

Also the actor Peter Cellers (spelling?) noted many times that some parts he was playing seemed to be taken from a past life or two of his. At times he did not even need to read the script as he knew his "role" intimately......

Interesting isn’t it :D ...........

Peace...........

Last night while watching CSI - a woman asked the agent Nick;

"Do you believe in reincarnation?"

He replied "No, I am having a hard enough time dealing with this one." She replied - "Well - you're doing well."

I liked how it was brought up - not over dramatized, it was casual, his reply was honest and the look in his eyes ---reflective. *S*S*S*S*S*S

I thought I would add here; that Alicia Keyes was on The View this morning. (Morning TV show). She stated that she felt she was born into the wrong era -or born again, because she loved the music of the 50's. Then she said she thought she had been reincarnated from the 30's - passed away and then came back in the 50's passed away and now ..........she is back.

Made my day - we can always use some Star power for passing the word. :):):)

Don't you just love it when that happens?

Have you ever heard reference....

I was reading an article awhile ago about a church that was going to be relocated to another area and the reporter mentioned that the new location "had reincarnated other churches" before...
I thought it was quite an interesting comment! :D

I recently heard an interview on CBC radio with Mr (I can't remember his first name) Tilly who invented the Tilly hat. He was saying he was so proud that the Canadian army used his hats. There was a catch in his voice and when the interviewer asked him why he was so emotional he said it was because he was a soldier in his past life. You could hear that he was about to cry; they had to stop the interview for a moment so that he could regain his composure. :(

Well - in the past week I have over heard students at the college discussing reincarnation. Good discussions too and several different groups. I just smile. :):):

On TV today I happen to see a cartoon (not that I was paying attention) LOLOL; To my surprise the cartoon was displaying cartoons that were supposed to be HOLOGRAMS. It was the use of the word Hologram IN THE CARTOON that caught my attention.

And then there are the endless list of songs on the radio that bring up reincarnation. In a generation or two - it just might be expected - the norm and accepted.

Has anyone else heard reference to reincarnation on the news? Or any other live show/special on TV recently? I know there have been a few commercials referencing it.

Well - it's not live TV - but the series Ghost Whisperer will be focused on reincarnation this Friday. The young man remembers four of his past lives in detail. Since Ghost Whisperer was up for a People's Choice Award - this week - there ought to be a lot of people watching. ;)

I saw the ad for this yesterday while at the wood shop (the man I'm learning from likes to have the t.v. going most of the time), but was unable to catch the show because I was at a funeral (pondering where my aunt will re-emerge). Did anyone see it?

As for seeing comments on live t.v./ads, I haven't seen anything that I can recall.

Now a mention at the Oscars

We can add Forrest Whittaker to the list. At the end of his Oscar speech today, he held up his statue and said he would carry this with him throughout his life time.."and into the next life time....." :D Go--Forrest Whittaker

Hiya Mertzie (glad to see you around again) . ;)

Deborah, when they ask you for an interview about your beautiful artwork, slip in a comment about having carried over your artistic ability from a past life and see if they keep it in there. (That would be cool!)

I will. My new artists statement suggests reincarnation and so does the work. I am going public with my belief's and I am using my art and my profession as a vehicle to do so. :):):)

I was watching a Bollywood film. A jealous husband confronts "the other man" as to his relationship with his wife. The other guy says that he is meant to be with the husbands wife in this life and the next 75 lifetimes.

'Beyond Death' Biography Channel broadcast this week

The Biography Channel will rebroadcast 'Beyond Death' the week of March 12th.

A great presentation. Thank you Marc. What shocked me was that 8 million Americans have reposted NDE's. That's...a lot of people!

I had seen the second half of the presentation on an earlier episode. It is well done. I hope others get a chance to catch it later this week.

Do any of you know of other programs on tv or any dvd's that can be rented? I'm having a hard time finding any programs to watch of any kind on reincarnation.

I was watching the gallery channel in HDTV today. The show was about Mozart. I only caught part of this - but a woman who was introduced proclaimed:

"In my last life I was Ann Selina (Nancy) Storace (1765-1817), the popular eighteenth-century opera star. The soprano for whom Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart created the role of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro."
She was dead serious. On an art channel? :butbut: I wasn't expecting it - and they moved on to other topics of interest.

But then they went back to reincarnation. She is married to a Southern Baptist Minister. My My and she is going public! I am still watching it.

Any commercials/advertisements implying reincarnation?

Hello,

It "hit me in a flash" after rereading this thread; Can we expect to see commercials that imply reincarnation? With a small percentage of people who say they believe in reincarnation, some AD agencies may see the value in serving such niche markets.

The types of products most suitable for such AD campaigns are products that have long-term values e.g., like products passed-down from generation to generation to account for what may be several years to decades between incarnations. How about promotions for travel to cultures that believe in reincarnation?

In the whole scheme of sometimes extreme, or controversial advertising, ads that imply reincarnation don't seem so far-fetched; provided that such AD-campaings are orientated towards educated audiences.

Regards,

Show on Mozart that mentioned past-lives.

Hello,

Can link(s) about "The Gallery Channel" show on Mozart be included in this thread? Were there other comments regarding the mention of a "past life" on this show? Other viewers must have expressed surprise that the topic of a "past life" was even briefly mentioned.

P.S. Still haven't located commercials that imply/infer the possibilty of reincarnation. Ad agencies in countries that believe in rebirth may have done such AD campaigns.

Regards,

Marc
