Reincarnation in the News? A TV show? An Interview?

Hiya,

This was not on TV, but in the Finland's biggest and most respected newspaper's monthly magazine.

They interviewed a man, Kalle Augustsson, who had done charity work in Kurdistan. I'll translate a part of the article:

One child stopped Augustsson in Kurdistan. A five-year old Midia's spine was injured and her lower body was paralyzed. Augustsson had seen many miserable and sick children, but there was something special about this girl.
Augustsson falls silent for a moment.

"Readers won't probably understand..."

He was assured that little Midia and him had known each other already in several past lives, and the thought wouldn't leave him alone anymore.
The story goes on to tell how he eventually, after 2,5 years of fighting the authorities, got Midia and her family to Finland and Midia was operated. Reincarnation is not mentioned anymore, but we learn that Midia lives still in Finland and is well.

I was surprised and glad to see this in a national paper that has 1,4 million readers, which is a lot considering there are only 5 million people in Finland.

On King of the Hill last night - one of the characters brought up reincarnation several times. It's an adult cartoon in America. I got a kick out of it.

Oh my, Deborah, you do watch A LOT of television :D

A few months ago Oprah had Dr. Brian Weiss on her show TWICE. He did a couple of PL regression in front of the cameras and then Oprah interviewed Brian and the people he regressed to talk about their memories and the meaning etc. She even had Dr. Oz on there telling everyone that although science can't explain PL memories we need to keep an open mind. Oprah seemed to be a believer. Both episodes were great. After the show I quickly ran to the library and read all of Dr. Weiss' books.

I think those episodes aired in May or June.

I had to chuckle Emma...Deb is the last person with time to watch TV. The woman never stops working!! That said, we did have Oprah's event or program on here. See Oprah's show thread. I recorded the programs and was set to watch it one day when I found that someone had recorded over it. I did see the first episode, and you're right it was really good.

Gloria Estefan once mentioned something about an album representing her past life- it seemed like she might have meant the past of *this* lifetime, but also knowing she is a client of Brian Weiss, it took on a new meaning to me.

Not on tv, but the old musical "Cats" was really about reincarnation-except it was only for one cat "who will now be reborn and come back in a different (Jellicle;) ) life." Maybe that's why I liked it as a child.

I will definitely be paying close attention to the tv for references now!

I was watching “The Life Before Her Eyes” starring Evan Rachel Wood, Uma Thurman and Eva Amurri (Susan Sarandon’s daughter).

It’s basically about a woman named Diana (Uma Thurman) and her guilt over surviving a school shooting 15 years before. She has a “good life” now, she’s an art teacher married to a professor with a somewhat bratty, but cute, 8 yr old daughter named Emma. The story weaves through her past where it includes many scenes of the young Diana at 17 (Evan Rachel Wood), who is a wild child, and her best friend Maureen (Eva Amurri), who is a Christian - and the events leading up to their last day together.

A brief reference is made to a person's spirit being absorbed into the universe after death. "Maybe we're just like the rain when it evaporates," says Diana. "You know, we just go back into the atmosphere." For all her Christian commitments, Maureen says that she might believe in reincarnation:

Diana: Maureen, what did I do to deserve a friend like you?

Maureen: Ummm…something in a past life?

Diana: Do you believe in that?

Maureen: I don’t know, maybe. I mean, we have to go somewhere, right?

We hear Diana’s husband, the professor, giving a lecture on conscience. The speech swings back and forth between orthodoxy ("Conscience is the voice of God in the nature and heart of man") and humanism ("We can author our own destinies. ... We have the talent to imagine our future selves"). Some of the focus in his lecture - was on creating what we want for ourselves now - and in the future. ;)

The movie is tied together - with choices made in the moment. The many underlying spiritual elements actually surprised me - but I enjoyed it.

wow that's interesting, I have not seen anything that I can remember on tv or in the news recently, but I will definately be looking more closely. However, I do recall a movie where a little boy tells and beleives that he is a neighbor's dead husband reincarnated and that he proves it to her, but I don't recall the title? :( I remember I just had to see it but I saw it many years ago.

LadyRayven, I think you mean the film called Birth starring Nicole Kidman. I think it gave a little weird picture of past lives' possible effect to current life. :o

Karoliina

Yes it was birth that's the movie! Well I posted this and then last night a movie was on disney, Wendy Wu homecoming warrior, My kids were watching it and they said she was an incarnation of a yin warrior and they had lived a thousand lifetimes. Of course it is definately in the chinese culture, it was still neat to see disney released a movie like that having to do with reincarnation.

In a popular and reputable Finnish talk show (national TV) a Finnish author talked about her new home town and how she feels so much at home there. She said "I've started to think I've lived there in my previous life", being all serious. The host asked her "Really?" - not ridiculing her in any way, and then the author continued with "Well, it feels so much like home and is so famliar to me..." etc. but they didn't mention past lives anymore.

The author is a well educated University professor.

As an interesting sidenote - in her latest book the same author told how her son had told her parents that as a child he used to "pretend" if he couldn't fall asleep at night that he rose to the ceiling and flew to his parents' bedroom, watching them sleep all peacefully, and then he could go to sleep himself, too. My bet is that he was going out of body, as it's assumingly more frequent and natural for children. ;)

Karoliina

I have noticed several new songs that talk about Karma -reincarnation or past lives. Big Head Todd and the Monsters is one. Ryan Adams is another.

Boston Legal had something on the other night - cannot recall the context at the moment - perhaps one of you saw it?

"Soul Survivor"

This morning I watched a movie on LMN called "Soul Survivor". It makes you think that is is going to be about ghosts. But, at the end you realise what she is seeing is her PL incarnations. Atleast 4 of them had chosen suicide as a way out, and they were trying to help her change that pattern. It was really neat. You seldom see anything along those lines on tv ;0)

Deborah - This may be the fellow you've already told us about. His name is John de Bry, a Florida archaeologist who has produced a documentary called, "Jesus in Egypt." I couldn't get the Seattle Times article, but this is pretty much the same article:

In reading through this thread I noticed this comment, which reminded me of a film I just heard about recently, "Jesus in India". Years ago I had heard a theory that Jesus spent time in India, and wondered if it could be true, and what the *real* teachings of Jesus were, if he had been influenced by Indian concepts of reincarnation. Below is a link to a site about the film - has anyone seen it?

Hi Equestrienne7,

Cannot say I have seen it. But I will check it out. Thanks for posting this.

Here's a GREAT commercial - very well done. I had to laugh - so true so true.

LOL, Deborah I just saw this commercial on TV literally right before I read this post.

Deborah, recently on some news channel I saw an interview

with a kid and his parents where this kid thought he was this

WWII fighter pilot in a past life. The fighter pilot had died in

WWII. Think there might be something here somewhere on

this story also. Quite Interesting! Do think that reincarnation

lately has been getting more into the mainstream then we might think.

HI kmatjhwy,

If you're talking about the James Leininger story, you can read a little more about it here. The thread also contains video links to James's story. :)

Carol Bowman worked with James's parents (who have both been on the forum), and she recently wrote the foreword for their new book Soul Survivor.

Definitely interesting to see reincarnation becoming more widely understood and accepted in Western culture :D

Aili

Thanks Ailish for the names which I had forgotten and the

links. I knew I had seen it here when looking things over.

In a big and well-respected Finnish family magazine there was a story about grandparents' and grandchildren's relationships. They had interviewed a certain grandmother, who has 12 grandchildren, but who says to feel a "special connection" to one of them, a now 4-year-old Max.

The grandmother calls Max an "old soul", and at the end of the interview it says (my translation):

Max himself believes that the love between him and his grandmother will never disappear. One day he had looked at her grandmother and said something she could feel all the way in her heart:
"I know you're old and will die soon. But even though I will miss you a lot, I know you'll come back soon again."

Interest in Reincarnation on the Rise

I found this short video of Brian Weiss talking to Fox News recently (7th March): (gone)

Reincarnation: Believing in second chances

(CBS News) Are we living life the second time around - or even the third or fourth, or more? A number of Americans believe they ARE . . . and while religion is a matter of faith, they're getting some support for their belief from surprising sources. Our Sunday Morning Cover Story (05/15/11) is reported now by Susan Spencer of "48 Hours"

On tonight....

I happened to catch the show ~Celebrity Wife Swap~ and Gary Busey and his wife are talking about their belief's in reincarnation and of Gary's NDE. I don't watch the show....funny to walk into my room and it happened to be on.

I remember back in either 2003 or 2004, one of the morning shows here in Scotland used to have a special segment on past lives/reincarnation.

A woman who specialised in past life regression would do a regression session on a guest (usually a celebrity) and a historian would later research the information given to see if any of it could be validated.

Very interesting segment. Unfortunately, I could only catch parts of it on the TV in the busy front reception where I worked at that time.

Yes, it was on the show called "This Morning", I'm sure. I don't think people really took it seriously though, I think it was just done for "fun". However it was interesting that, as you pointed out, they did do a research to see if they could verify what people had said during the regression.

@Kristopher...

Yes, it was on This Morning. I wish I could have watched the segment uninterrupted but from what I remember, it was quite interesting. I really, really wanted to contact the historian but could never get his name because I was too busy with patients. Too bad not too many people took it seriously.

Do you remember if the historian was able to verify any of the past lives?

He did verify a few facts about the things they had said. Obviously some more strongly than others. He also managed to find a few flaws in people's claims, such as the style of armour or sword they had didn't really fit the time period of which they said it was in.

One thing we should consider, though, is that even historians can get it wrong sometimes. Just because what someone has said is different to what historians think happened back in those days, dosen't really mean that they're right.
