I'm giving my 3 year old a bath and she starts singing the song barbara ann. I don't know how she knows it. We don't listen to the beach boys. My dad did when i was little but not since then.

So anyway, i say how do you know that song? She says i don't know. So i get my phone and youtube beach boys. She also knows i get around. But she says she doesnt know how she knows it!

Both songs are from early 60s

Interesting sstolze! Is there anywhere else she may have been exposed to this music? Even at 3 years old I doubt if she would have the capacity to remember such songs without being frequently subjected to them, so I would say there's a good chance she may be remembering them from a past life.

That is fascinating, Sstolze. I grew up in an adjoining town to the one the Beach Boys were from, and a friend of mine was a cousin to one of them. It sounds like your little one could be a contemporary of mine.

No. At day care they listen to kid music. Twinkle twinkle, itsy bitsy spider etc. I have no idea how she would have heard it.

Well, she could have heard them anywhere really, tv, radio, somebody else's radio, the supermarket music, somebody playing it in the car really loud, even some kids Cds make covers of 60's songs. Did you ask her how she feels about those songs? what does she think about when she hears them?

Maybe it's Pl related, maybe not. If it is, that's cool, I love the Beach Boys.

Maybe, briar rose.

She has given hints to a past life before, but this have a time period. I'm pretty excited.

Try asking her open ended questions at bedtime when she is sleepy or maybe in the car. I think it probably is PL related. Not many stations are playing Beach Boys nowadays.

This is a possibility of course, but I would imagine a 3 year old child would need a lot of exposure to the same song again and again in order to start singing it in the bath, and I can't see that happening on tv or in a supermarket, unless she's heard somebody else singing it? A relative or a friend perhaps? Sstolze, does she hum the songs or does she sing any of the words?

For the song i get around she started humming but ended up singing. With barbara ann. She just out of the blue stated saying ba ba ba ba barbara ann over and over. Other than that she is finally getting the hang of singing abcs

My parents had the radio on all the time - they tell me when I was 2 maybe 3 years old I knew a mostof the lyrics to the popular 1960s songs - I could sing along to The Beatles, Beach Boys, Monkees and Rolling Stones tunes. This was in the late 70s...

They put it down to me picking up songs really quickly. I sort of - this is hard to explain - I just felt like everyone regardless of their age knew these songs anyway, so it wasn't unusual. I didn't know how or why I knew them, but I just did.

Oddly, I've spent most of my life running around with rock'n'roll bands.

Edited to add: by 'most of the lyrics' we're talking 100s of songs. Like, I knew 80% of the songs that they'd play if they were released prior to 1970.
