I'm new here to the forum and have had the most interesting reading time with viewing everyone's posts regarding the 'paranormal'.

What I'd like to know is, Who do I go to ask or to find out about who my spirit guides are?

Hello Jenny S and a warm welcome to the Past Life Forum, a safe place where you are amongst like minded individuals who respect others in their posts and discussions.


Some people have reported that dreams may offer some clues and one technique I use is to tell myself that tonight I will dream of:____________ and concentrate on that subject and usually during the night, I will dream of that very matter, the problem is remembering once I wake up ;)


Which is why I also keep a small portable hand recorder by my bed to record my thoughts and dreams, and because I have trouble writing (and for any length of time) due to Arthritis in my hands.


Years ago, the "old-timers" would dedicate a problem or a wish "to the bedpost" and sometime during the night, a dream would reveal the problem and the solution.


Others have tried a Past Life Regression by a trained professional to find out who their guides are with excellent success, this approach may also help you to find out some of your Past Lives and to be able to deal with any current problems such as phobias (if any).

I was initially "introduced" to my guidance by an akashic reader. I asked what he looked like and I got a mental image of the farmer with glasses and pitchfork with his dour wife standing next to him in the "American Gothic" painting...the reader burst out laughing having just seen the same image I got. Since then anytime I go into the records, with or without a reader, I get his assistance...even now I get quick mental impressions of him helping me keep perspective regarding almost anything I am doing.
 
The way I understand this is that you have one guide. It is nameless, and lacks personality. It is assigned to each and every one of us at birth. It helps us to be born and to die after our body is not useful anymore.


In my opinion, you do not go to anyone for your guide! It is your guide! You have all the knowledge of the guide, just that you do not realize it!


I believe the "spirit" guide is impartial and will never influence you! You can always ask for help but your answer will never be bias. Do not ask your guide to be your moral compass, that is not the way it works (IMO). It has no personality, nor it will divulge the secrets of the universe to you. The true trinity is guide, guru and master.


I think your guide will help you when asked in a limited way. The "watchers" are far better source to get help and dedicating your life to them will almost guarantee you protection and safe-harbor in most cases. The "watchers" are not deity or gods, they are our elder brothers who do not need to incarnate anymore yet they are on the subtle realm work for mankind progress and safety at all times. One day you can become a "watcher" if you have reached your final lesson and passed. WARNING! Merely wanting to become a "watcher" automatically will disqualify you.
 
I trust your belief in your guidance follows the characteristics you describe...they do not apply to my own experiences.


My relationship with guidance was indeed initiated with paid, professional akashic readers, and through my own efforts thereafter with learning to access my own records, has been and continues to develop into a more and more effective and understandable working partnership. My guide, who has a name, also has tremendous personality, wit and wisdom which he shares both when I ask and when it appears I require it.
 
As usual, well put, usetawuz :thumbsup:, but if I might tell my life's journey and what apparently works for me, as it has so far in this lifetime.


IMHO each of us has different ways to return to the Creator at the end of each life's journey, my mileage will differ from someone else's.


Whereas someone else might have done something different, I might chose another approach in discerning information.


I do not however, seek out others for my information, but rely on a time when I need that information, and it will be given to me, I'm reminded of the saying, "When the Student is ready, the Teacher will Appear"


Throughout my life, I have been "notified" (so to speak) of important information, and have been chided, needled and nagged until I listened to that small, voice/feeling within me.


Some might say it is my sub-conscious mind wanting to be heard, but I've felt the difference between the two and while I can ignore the sub-conscious mind, the other voice/feeling I cannot ignore, it's almost like having a nagging wife [bIG GRIN] (just kidding of course). :)


These statements are my opinion and not of this Forum, and each person has a right to their own beliefs and religions and I in NO way set one religion above another, each person is welcome to worship as they so desire.

Spirit guides... an interesting concept and one that has been touched on for generations. As you can see from above there are many varying thoughts and ideas about the subject. I don't think we can give you any one specific answer. Like all of our questions about reincarnation, karma, spirit guides etc... the only real answer will come from your own research and exploration. I urge you yo keep an open mind and read everything you can. Just for grins I entered "spirit guide" into the google search engine and received many responses. i checked out several and all seem to have some correlation to my own beliefs. I particularly loved the images section... there is some wonderful art work on the subject.


I personally learned about my spirit guide from the Regression Therapist who conducted my experience.


What prompted your interest in spirit guides?

While meditating I asked my guidance to squeeze my hand to let me know he was there and instantly the spot between my thumb and forefinger on both hands began to be squeezed repeatedly...I saw nothing, but the spot on both the front and back of my hands was being depressed and released for a period of about three minutes. A warmth came over me and I got an incredible sense of love and compassion and I felt flush for about an hour afterwards.
 
Jenny, welcome. I can offer you no more a definitive answer than anyone else, merely relate my own experiences and opinion.


My understanding of spirit guides is that they are often - but not always - highly evolved souls who we knew in a previous incarnation (and who had some special bond with us). They chose not to incarnate with us this time around, but to instead offer us guidance from the spirit realm while they continue their own learning on that side of life. We often have several spirit guides at once, and they can change as our life progresses. For instance, as a teenager, a medium told me I had a very wise Chinese spirit guide called Chang, but by the time I hit my 30s, and was seeing another medium, he seemed to have moved on. I was told at that point the name of the new spirit guide, who was apparently the "main" one I had, but I'm afraid I've long since forgotten his name.


As regards how to find out the name of your spirit guides, often the easiest way is to book a private sitting with a reliable, reputable medium and ask the question directly. Sometimes, the information will be offered without the need to even ask the question. That happened to me not so long ago, when I went into a spiritualist church as part of the general "congregation" with a burning question on my mind. I was fortunate that the medium picked me among those to give "messages" to, and the first thing he said was: "I see a question mark over your head!" He then proceeded to answer the unasked question that was so concerning me...


I'd like to briefly touch upon the question of payment for readings, mediumship, etc. In my first few posts on these forums, I got myself into hot water on this very subject, so wish to avoid giving any offence again. As has been stated, one would have to be highly evolved indeed to divorce oneself from all earthly needs and wants, to say nothing of the need to simply sustain oneself with food and shelter. These are basic human needs, and their provision requires money, whether we like it or not. I therefore see no contradiction in someone setting themselves up as a full time healer, clairvoyant, past-life regression therapist, etc, and charging for their services. How else are they supposed to survive? At my local spiritualist church, it is the custom for each member of the "congregation" to pay £3 at the door when attending clairvoyance meetings. This is simply to defray the medium's expenses (often considerable), incurred in travelling to the church. There is no element of profit involved.


That said, there are indeed a huge number of charlatans travelling on the so- called "new-age" bandwagon. And, sadly, it does seem that the greatest proportion of these are in the USA. We could debate the reasons for this, and I'm sure it would fill many pages of a separate thread, but suffice it to say that when money is to be made people of all nationalities will be tempted toward dishonesty. The old saying, Caveat Emptor, probably applies very much here!

Evidently, my spirit guides have a sense of humor! A week ago, we were at a movie theater. My husband looked down, and saw a shiny new quarter. The sidewalk had specks of mica that were shimmering in the sun. I thought that if I used this image as a "money" affirmation, the universe might fill my piggy bank. I started imagining that the sidewalk was covered with quarters, and we scrambled to pick them up. Well, on a recent weekend getaway, I spilled a change purse full of quarters on the sidewalk. We scrambled to pick them up! I said, "Ha ha! Very funny, heavenly "guides". I didn't mean my own money!" We returned to the hotel. I did my affirmation, looked down, and there was a shiny penny on the carpet. I was once again, amused. The next morning, I was leaving a restaurant, pleasantly stuffed with caramel apple crepes. I looked down, saw a shimmer, and picked up a silver angel wing charm from the sidewalk. I was laughing, and a bit awe-struck at the same time!

Apparently they're in cohorts with mine. I once asked for a message from my guides, I just wanted confirmation that I have some, you know, that sort of thing. I got it into my head that when I walked out around the neighborhood I would find a nickel. That was it, if I found a nickel, I'd have my reassurance. (I rarely notice change, just occasionally a penny.)


I found a pile of four pennies.


What am I supposed to make of that, guys?! I'm being short changed? I'm asking too much? LOL
 
Aren't they hilarious? I was chagrined, and amused by mine at the same time. Were yours saying, "We're here, but don't count on us for too much?" Mine apparently don't like New Age affirmations. Your post made me wonder something. Does "heavenly match.com" pair up guides with souls of a compatible personality? You and I both have a sense of humour, Sister Grey. Do serious, dour people get serious, dour guides? :rolleyes:
 
I think I may be a crashing bore to mine. :laugh: I imagine them picnicking with the fauns, getting drunk, tossing a Frisbee and it knocks over the beer or lands in the ambrosia which reminds them of some ribald story about Aphrodite which I wouldn’t get if I ever did hear it but which causes them to fall down laughing their butts off. They avoid checking on me at all because I’m probably alphabetizing the spice rack when they do and that depresses them.


I do think that guides could somehow be matched to our ‘energy’! I’ve been thinking - we often talk about energy but only in vague or airy-fairy ways. Maybe our energy patterns are responsible for everything that happens to us, and we’re drawn to other energy patterns of both people and things, and that’s why we’re born into a certain family, or have some things happen to us - but also why some things don’t happen for us. Maybe the ‘energy’ of some event or thing doesn’t align with ours, to the point where the thing almost doesn’t exist for us? (And indeed, there are other dimensions which are probably there somewhere, but which don't exist for us.) If we understood how this works we could better control what happens to us? Maybe?
 
First of all, I want to picnic with your spirit guides.:laugh: I would bore them, too. I would probably be blowing dust out of the crevices of my furniture with a can of compressed air. (I actually did that today!) But as to the energy thing, I have a feeling that you touched on something important. Our energy might draw our spirit guides, life partners, wealth, or lack of it, and everything else in our life experience. I don't know if that energy pattern changes from life to life, but I suspect that it doesn't. What particularly struck me was your comment that some things might be so outside our energy pattern that they don't even exist for us. This would explain why some of us can't attract wealth, or romantic love, or an entire array of things that we long to have. How to change the pattern? I would love to hear suggestions. I think New Age books like "The Secret", and the Abraham books by Esther and Jerry Hicks attempt to teach that, but my own experience with the coins may show that the pattern can't be altered.
 
You made me laugh with the idea of your guides checking to see if you need rescuing, or guidance out of some heinous bit of mischief, and there you are cleaning furniture with compressed air! I’ve never used it for that, only to blow cat hair out of the keyboard, so it’s a handy tip!


Random thought - I was thinking that perhaps differences in energy could explain why some people are prone to seeing ghosts, or other greebly things like UFO’s etc., and why others never see these things. I don’t know if our personal pattern would change from life to life, maybe, but I suspect that it can’t be ‘forced’, it would have to evolve (?) naturally. It could be that in some lifetimes our energy fits in better with whatever energy is going around that creates wealth, for example, and we find ourselves rich, or otherwise blessed. Anyway, I’m also open to suggestions here! I’m sure someone will suggest clean living, meditation, and abstinence of all sorts! :D
 
It could also be your deceased relatives watching you. Did they have a sense of humor?


Did you see that article in Psychology Today about people with allergies seem to be extra sensitive and "see" things that most people do not? I posted a link for it awhile back.
 
I liked clean living and abstinence when I was young, but now that I'm not, I advocate over-indulgence while we're still here to enjoy them! It could be as you say, Sister Grey. Our energy could change over centuries, but we have no control of the process. Certain energies may suit certain eras, and that's why so many people feel disconnected and out of place. I came across a theory that most souls currently living in the U.S., Britain, and the rest of Western Europe are adolescent souls, and they behave and think that way. The theory would explain a lot of our current problems. It would also explain our members longing for the "good old days." I think that I am an advocate of your whole theory.


Argonne, it could be dead relatives "playing with me", but mine aren't that witty. I like your allergy idea. I don't know how I missed it before. I am both receptive to ghosts, and afflicted with hay fever. I read that allergies developed selectively, to protect people from intestinal parasites. We no longer have those, but the over-active immune system remains. We react to everyday substances as if they were toxic invaders. I suppose some people would find ghosts to be "toxic invaders". :laugh:
 
BriarRose - I think your experience with the quarters was brought on by you alone doing some old-fashioned magic. You could call it affirmations, visualization, prayer or what-have-you. I suspect this is how spells and such got such a bad rap. In my experience, you get what you ask for. No more, no less. Be careful what you wish for!


The wings, on the other hand, sound like they were brought to your attention by a guide. One that is showing you, in a funny way, that yes, I am here, and that good food, companionship, and contentment is more of my forte than cash.


Sister Grey - I would read your pennies as meaning that you have four of them, but they are not quite what you expect or imagine them to be.


By the way, both of your experiences with your guides are similar to what I have seen of mine. It makes me really skeptical of people who claim that their guide only channels other worldly wisdom and esoteric knowledge and never cracks a smile.
 
I probably did unintentionally do a "spell", Blueheart, although I hadn't thought about it. I did dabble in Wicca for a while. Not sky clad, romping in the wild Wicca, although that would make a much more interesting post. It was more, "Help me change how I feel about this, Wicca." I did sometimes get unintended consequences, and could never get past the feeling that I was doing something wrong, even though I had no harmful intent. I think I may have been part of a coven in a past life, and have always been attracted to "magic". I haven't "dabbled" in a long time - just the occasional love spell when my husband seems to need a "booster" shot! ;) I really love the Kipling story, "The Cat Who Walked By Himself". When the First Woman sits by the fire, combing her hair and making a "singing magic", it touches something very basic in my heart. I will be careful, and try to abstain. There goes that dreaded abstinence again, Sister Grey!
 
I know I’m not the only one here who doesn’t have a family of wise, smiling, apple-cheeked loved ones who are always ready to lend a helping hand and warm humour, even when they’re dead. Mine came in basically three flavors - alcoholic, mean and vicious and alcoholic, or sweet but dense as a doorpost. I’m hoping to avoid most of them for as long as possible, and by the way, the first poster who says I’ll have to marry one of them next lifetime is going to get yelled at. Taz


BriarRose - I can see where I overdid it a bit on the abstinence, sigh. And now it looks more like I’m going to be one of those old ladies who dress funny and talk to squirrels than one who moves to Rio with a boy toy.


Eh, I prefer squirrels, anyway.

I have seasonal allergies and one medical allergy so that might explain my history of psychic incidents, both as a child and as an Adult.


I had allergies as a child, then they went into remission around puberty, then appeared again several years ago, I wonder if that affected my psychic incidents, if any?


As far as Spirit Guides are concerned, if I had any, I think they gave up in disgust years ago, but seriously, I think perhaps my twin, who died while in the womb with me, and perhaps my Grandmother MIGHT be a Guide for me.


Or they're just assigned to you, like a rotating roster, so the first person of the day to arrive on the Other Side, might get the top name on the list and so forth, or perhaps there is a secret formula for choosing guides, one does wonder a bit.:confused:
 
I feel the same about most of my dead relatives, Sister Grey. I had a few kind, loving ones, but most of them were so "pickled" by alcohol, that they didn't require embalming. If I am greeted by them on the other side, I will jump off the nearest cloud. They were self-destructive in ways that I found intolerable.


The allergy-ghost connection is interesting, Hydrolad. When I think about it, I'm allergic to more than pollen.


OMG, this morning my house is experiencing weird occurrences. It's prematurely hot in good old So Cal, and I have a window fan in the bedroom. It's been turning itself on and off all morning, once while my daughter and I were standing in the hallway, clucking like a pair of hens (according to her boyfriend). I don't know if it's guides or ghosts, but it's disconcerting. She is leaving on her first "road trip" without us today!
 
The fan thing could be mechanical or electrical. Wiggle the switch and cord and see if that makes it cut out. Or the motor may be going out. OR, "someone" could be sending you a "message". When I was down south last weekend it was about 80. But they are predicting 100 up here this weekend! It's time, but we are NOT looking forward to it.
 
When I was 26....(years ago) and making a grocery list one day, my pencil started moving frantically around the paper...with my hand following.


I didn't know anything about automatic writing back then and was scared to death. My spirit guide made herself known to me and has been with me ever since.


This gentle spirit has a name and is so wise and patient. Occasionally I look to this part of my mind for answers. I can only get information by doing automatic writing....but I can point my finger in the air without paper if I want to.


Recently, I saw the psychic twins on television doing the same thing. I am not gifted in that way...and do not know things about other people.


Years ago, I asked several experts about it (not psychics) and was told that it is simply my subconscious.
 
I would think all psychic information comes through the subconscious, thus communication with our guides, and our past life memories. It sends like you have a wonderful relationship with your guide.
 
I do....but living in a small Southern town and having friends and relatives who are very conservative, I have not pursued the relationship with my spirit guide. In fact, I have neglected her, and recently asked her if she was still with me. She answered right away and I could feel her there.


Years ago, I read Tarot cards for my sisters and friends and began to get a reputation for being psychic, but that is taboo here and I backed away. My cards are still tucked away safely though.


I am beginning to open up more now, mainly because I so want to believe that I will have another life after this one. Some of you are so advanced in remembering your past lives. I am still dealing with bits and pieces, but starting to keep a journal and learning meditation.
 
I understand your hesitance. There are still many places where this subject is Tabu. I recently made the mistake of mentioning reading the Tarot in front of a born-again neighbor. Oh well, I didn't want her as a friend anyway! She bored me. I don't worry as much about being open about my beliefs now that my children are grown. When they were small, I was afraid that they would be taken away from me by narrow-minded people with power. We have those, even in Southern California. Being older myself, I understand the need to explore spirituality now. I sometimes wonder if I am getting so much information because my time is growing shorter. You are on the right path, and what you need will come. As for being open about our beliefs, Stephen Hopkins, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, said that there was no idea so dangerous that it couldn't be discussed. Ladies and Gentlemen, I say ye - Stephen Hopkins!

Thanks for your support and encouragement BriarRose.


I did most of my exploring of parapsychology during the years of living in a large city. I chose to move back to this small, simple place (where I grew up) a few years ago.


I am painting (oil and watercolors) a few hours a day now, and I think this is what is helping me to be in tune with my inner self and develop intuitive abilities again.
