It's nearly halloween, or 'All Hallows Eve' which falls on the 31st October every year and has done for a very long time. On the 'old' calendar this day would mark the death of the old year and the birth of the new.
Many people don't know that traditionally Halloween is the time when the souls of our departed loved ones appear to us. Somehow over the years this turned into the idea that on this one night of the year, ghosts would rise and walk among us, rapping at our windows, and peeking through our locks. The children today in many countries like to dress up as ghosts and goblins and go from house to house begging for sweets or playing tricks. Of course, no good Halloween party is complete without some spoooooky ghost stories to round out the night.
Do people have anything spooky to share? It could be a personal encounter with a ghost, a phone call from the 'other side'. It could be that spooky thing your cat does. I will get the ball rolling with a spooooky thing going on right now, in the USA. The mystery of the clown sightings... What's going on? Is it a craze? Is it a hoax? Is it a prank? Are there really clowns wandering alone in the woods?

Clown sightings: the day it all began
The first person to spot a clown, the patient zero in the current epidemic of threatening clowns sightings spreading across the US, was a little boy at a low-income apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina. He ran to his mother, Donna Arnold, and told her what he had seen: two clowns in the woods, both brightly dressed and made up. One with a red fright wig and the other with a black star painted on his face. They whispered something to the boy.
“They were trying to lure him to the house,” his mother told me, pointing toward the woods.
A path into the woods led down into a shaded hollow, at the bottom of which was a small pond. Beside it sat a house that seemed abandoned. Someone had boarded up the windows, and the balcony sagged. New bags of potting soil sat near the basement door, though. And a modern security system looked recently installed. After sunset a car approached the house; a gleaming white, new-model Mercedes that looked as out of place as any clown car....
