Standing stone segmented stove??

Hi, I had another interesting dream the other night and thought I'd share and see whether anyone can shed some light on it.

In the dream, I walked into a changing room of like a gym or leisure center and looking at the room, I thought, I know this place, and I could see a row of standing stones in the corner against the wall, though they did not actually exist in the gym 'real life'. Then a girl behind me said 'I know this place', and I turned round and said, really? And she answered that yes, that was the stove in the corner. I thought that was quite interesting, since I thought it was a stove, too.

Then I walked down a corridor into a waiting room, and there were two girls sat in front of me. I looked at her/them, and said, oh, are you Martha Dixon? I was your sister, Mary. Then the two girls smiled, and the older of the two vanished into thin air, leaving the younger of the two, the 'modern' girl, left looking at me! I think the girl who spoke behind me was a sister, too.

The 'stove' as far as I could see it, was basically like a row of slate stones stood facing each other with a gap of some 20-30cm between each one, and I think would have had a plank or rod above to cook individual pots of food upon. A bit like a modern hob. Has anyone ever seen of or heard about anything like this before?

Your description reminded me of the storage dresser in one of the houses, which is completely made of stone slabs. However, can't seem to find anything about stone 'stoves', only centrally placed, stone-lined square hearths, so maybe I'm wrong on this one

I have seen the stone structures at Skara Brae, and yes, I suppose the stove I saw did have a similar kind of appearance to the storage areas there, but it was on one level only and had some 4-5 seperated compartments in a row.


I had the feeling fires of varying intensity could have been placed within the different compartments, and it was designed to allow several pots to be cooked at the same time, crudely allowing for differences in temperature requirements etc.. although, as you mentioned, I may be completely wrong in my assumptions!

Had a feeling the Skara Brae connection may be a bit tenuous, was just the first thing that popped into my head!


Your new post really has rung some bells for me, with different levels of heat across the different compartments, but I can't remember where I've come across something like that before. It really does remind me of something. Will have to keep looking and see if I can remember where from...
