subtleties of photographs pertaining to past selves?

Hello everyone,

A few months ago, I read or saw something about photographs being able to show snapshots of your past features, and wondered if anyone could tell me any more about it?

If I remember correctly, the example given was of going into a photobooth, etc, and of taking mutliple, rapid photographs, and of different faces coming out amongst the photographs... so, I was curious.

Especially since this weekend we went climbing and waterfall seeking, taking lots of pics on our phones. Then, I had some of them emailed to me, and to be honest, I was a little taken aback - one of the pictures in particular, just was absolutely not me at all! (But, it most certainly was!) It was completely wierd. I look as if I am a different race, different face structure, different person, and yet the rest of the pics taken in the same spot were quite obviously me. Then, we went climbing for a bit, and had a few more pics taken up in the mountains, and again, there were a couple of images where I just had to look twice, they were so different. Either that, or my face structure really has started to change recently, since although there were just a few that stood out as very bizzare, to be honest, there were only a few of the pics taken that WERE the me as I know me.. if that makes sense..??!
 
Could it have been differences in the lighting on your face? Shadows or reflected light can make quite a difference, especially to eyes and cheekbones - like when lighting from above makes you look more tired or older than horizontal lighting does, or the effect of holding a torch under your chin at Haloween ;)


Why not post a good one and a bizzare one so we can compare them?

and thanks for your reply. The fact that it was subtleties in lighting, or slight movements in posture was one aspect I did consider, but there was a group of pictures taken all at exactly the same time - my dad does tend to take multiple pics for each pose, since I have an inherent and irritating tendency to blink! This photo, though, was just Completely different. There were a few taken later on, in a different location that stood out for me as well, but not quite to the same extent.


I know it is quite preposterous really, to think there is any thing strange in it, but I am still open-minded enough to think what-the-hey? Especially since I have seen that face before - it was the same face of a girl I saw in a dream following a regression I attempted. In the dream, she was up and hiding in a tree, looking down on a village. Later, I saw her dying from an infected leg wound. The picture was taken in a very damp, forested spot, and just before and after it, I was actually fooling around and hugging a waterfall-dewed, moss-carpeted, fern-inhabited tree...


I had fleetingly toyed with the idea of showing a me and the not-me picture on here, but am a little exposure-shy, so decided not to. However, the face has a very distinct look to it, but I just can't pin it down in my memory as to where. Maybe a little Egyptian/Arab/Moroccan/that sort of the world-ish??

I find your 'experience' (if you can call it that: angel) intriguing!


We've seen it before in other cases that there are some facial similarities between present and past life selves, however the concept perplexes me, because it defies our knowledge on genetics. It drags a metaphysical subject into the physical reality and that creates a problem.


That being said, most of us here have experienced recognition when meeting someone from a past life, so something does seem to be passed on.


I'm sorry, I can't even give you my opinion, because it truly is a subject that baffles me :eek::laugh:
 
As a little footnote,


I just showed the file of photographs to one of my housemates, as she wanted to see where I had been and what I was doing yesterday - I hadn't told anyone anything at all about any oddities or anything, and left her perusing whilst I was busy in the kitchen.


The next thing I know, she is looking at me rather oddly, and quizzically cocking her head at the computer screen.


'Do you have a sister I don't know about? Who is this?'


I told her it was me, but she didn't believe me and enlarged the photo to have a better look. But despite my insistence she was still convinced it was someone else - we haven't been housemates for very long, so she thought maybe I had a twin or something I hadn't told her about and was trying to hide.


Eventually she affirmed that it must be me, since there was only myself and my dad on this little trip and I was not likely to come across someone else dressed exactly the same way/or changed clothing as a prank, with someone out in the wilds of a forest, lol, and then she said the exact thing I did when I first saw it.. 'but it doesn't look anything like you at all.. How wierd!' Then she examined it again and said 'Maybe you had a ghostly encounter!' and at that, she burst out laughing. :angel:
 
Lynnette, this is quite interesting and thanks for posting on this. I myself am picture shy it seems in this life. But I am going to have to try this sometime and see what happens. Now I would not be surprised if something like this does happen from time to time. I have heard stories where someone looked into a mirror with a reflection of themself then after awhile saw a glimpse of their former self.

Having pondered whether to show the pics or not, I thought I would, just because the whole thing still has us wondering.


okay, ... or rather, I would, but am not entirely sure how. It won't let me copy and paste them...??
 
For photographic puzzles, it's generally helpful to have an experienced photographer examine the images, but as a matter of curiosity, are there any popular ideas as to how the images might come have to appear so different - i.e. did Lynnette's face actually change, so that someone else present could have seen the difference at the time, or did something affect the light on its way to the camera, or in the camera itself, or did something affect the film or CCD as the image formed?


If Lynette's face had actually changed to look like someone else, you might expect the photographer to notice at the time, even if no-one else did...


On the other hand, if something affected the film or CCD, you might expect that there would be some difference between such photographs taken on film (old cameras) and those on CCD (digital cameras), because the technologies are totally different.


If there are other known examples of this kind of face-changing effect, as Lynette suggested (e.g. the photo-booth pictures), it might be worth comparing them to see if there are similarities in the sort of changes that they show.


Does anyone know any links to such pictures?

Bumping-up discussion; as facial-recognition technologies have come into greater use over the past few-years.


Has anybody considered applying (or actually applied) facial- recognition in scanning online historic photographs of faces; whose facial features are similar?


Facial-recognition TECH. is impartial, and can also help with genealogical research.


Are there specific services offering facial recognition?
