Take me Back to the 1930s......

Hello to all! I have not been active on this site for a while. Ive always expressed interest several "eras" if you will...but the one that pulls me like a magnet is the 1920s-40s decades. Mobsters, Flapper Girls, Vintage cars, Hairstyles, Clothing, way of life....EVERYTHING! I feel like my soul is trapped here in this time and I always have that "I wanna go home" type of feeling. It's a nostalgia that I cannot explain. I often find myself in a daze...thinking "who was I? Why do I feel so in touch with this period of time, what happend to me?" It seriously depresses me living in the "modern" society. If there were ever a time machine invented I would get in and go back in time. Makes me feel like a total nut sometimes and I don't know how to deal with it. If I watch a movie about any of those decades its like my soul says "Home! Home! Lets go back!"..........:D....Anyone feel this way about this time period?

When I was in junior high I was very attracted to the 1920's. Specifically, it was the power structure of organized crime in Chicago. By the end of 6th grade I knew who ran what and what their climb to power had been like. I didn't get into the guys like Pretty Boy Floyd, the Barker boys or Baby Face Nelson, John Dillinger, or Bonnie & Clyde. I was into guys like Al Capone, Dion O'Banion, Bugs Moran, Hymie Weiss, Machine Gun Jack McGurn, Johnny Torrio, the Genna brothers, etc. I even knew of the lone survivor of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, a German Shepherd named Highball. I don't know why, but for some reason I thought it was important for me to know how their systems worked.

And yes, I laugh like crazy at today's so-called "gangstas". If these two-bit punks ever met a real gangster, they'd poop their stupid baggy pants.

I know what you mean! I would get in a time machine happily some days. Not that there aren't perks to living in modern times, but like you say, there can be such a calling to another era. Personally, I wouldn't stop in the 20s, I keep going at least the 1830s, maybe even all the way back to the late medieval times. Renaissance definitely.

I have learned to love and embrace my callings to time periods instead of fighting it. Seriously, I spend all my spare time doing 13th century calligraphy, 1700-1800s leather work, medieval archery, native american beadwork, etc. I may be 'different' then the average person, but I don't feel like a nut. :) I actually even sell my work now - so you just never know - follow what you love, and you might be surprised at the wonderful places it might take you.

I would totally go back to 1930 as well!

The furniture back then was pretty nice, all strong wood, not the cheapy material that we have nowadays. Everything was of a better quality in general and looked prettier. There was maybe less variety on music but most of it was good. If you were bored, you would just read a book or do something productive, there weren' t shiny electronic screens to distract you. Fashion was more stylish, clothes were more warm and there wasn' t people wearing plastic like in these times. People had more values, more honor, a sense of community and hopes for the future.

I' m sure there are more stuff but sure, I wouldn' t mind going back to the 30' s.

These wishings for the 1930s keeps reminding me of a personal mystery that's had me wondering for a few years.

I myself don't feel any special connection to the 1930's. But sometimes in dreams, the kind of dreams some people have told me are similar to past-life dreams, I am brought to relive scenes from the 1930's as they weren't.

If I may explain, I have a pretty good idea of what the real 1930's were like, as compared to (for example) some 1930's movies with glamorous stars and starlets, adventure and happy or bittersweet endings.

These pseudo past life dreams show scenes of a life more like one of those movies than of the 1930's reality, but with no director or cameras anywhere. In techni-color, of course.

I don't seem to have any choice or control over the scenes, where I'm always the same starlet playing a part in a life like an old movie, who just isn't my waking life me. And it's not the real 1930's as they would have been, not even like an uncommon real 1930's life with similar remarkable events. And sometimes when I try to speak to the other players out-of-character as my present day me, they say the most unexpected things.

All in all, it has me rather confused about what is going on.
