Terrain and Climate

Is there a type of terrain and/or climate that you are either particularly attracted to or absolutely repulsed by?

I grew up pretty much on the road. We moved a lot, but I did spend a lot of time in the American Southwest desert. I have an affinity for the desert because of all the time I spent there. However, though I have spent precious little time in the mountains, I love the terrain. Mountains feel so like home to me that I have trouble reconciling my love of the desert with my love of the mountains. When we were looking for property to buy, we briefly looked at New Mexico. My husband saw only bleak wasteland, but I saw rough beauty. Likewise, we went to Yosemite and it was probably the most comfortable setting I could find myself in. I have some distant memories, maybe PL, of a good life in the mountains.

The tropics? Yeesh! I am in the weird bunch that doesn't find the promise of a Hawaiian vacation tempting. Palm trees? Yuck! Sleeping in a hammock on a tropical beach while palms gently sway? No way! Year-round warm weather? AAAAAUGH!!!

No idea why I am so repulsed by the tropics. I haven't found any memories of the tropics, I just don't like them.

Anybody got a favorite terrain/climate with something linked to it (or not)?

Hi shiftkitty. I actually love storms. The sound of rain is brilliant and so relaxing. I feel so more relaxed in bed at night when it is windy and rainy outside. Luckily for me, we get a lot of rain in Scotland:laugh:. I cant say that I dont enjoy sunshine, because I do, only now and then though. If I had to pick between stormy weather or sunny, I would pick stormy anytime.

I like green vales/acres and clear skies. I like the wind when it caresses each and every grass while it gently blows through my hair. I also love windy nights where I am safely tucked inside, the wind brushing violently against tempered glass. Third, I do love dripping drops from a previous rain during dusk, and waking in a cabin to see a sheet of snow cover the earth like a veil while the sun shines off it.

Now Shiftkitty, just had to respond. This is interesting as concerning Hawaii for that is the way I am also. I am also soooo repulsed with the idea of vacationing in Hawaii so you are not the only one. I have also never been to the Caribbean. And the way it looks, I doubt it that I will never visit either of these areas. Occasionally I think about the tropics and wonder how it might be. But as for myself, nope not for me at least in this life. Not only is it too hot but just too many darn bugs in those tropics.

Now I am like you that I lovvveee Mountains. I Absolutely Love It here in the Rocky Mountains! Now I was born in Colorado and now have lived off and on up here in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for 30 years and Love It!!! Can say that the mountains are in my blood so to speak. I even love the cold hard snowy winters also so to speak. Now do seriously think that I was a Mountain Shoshone (Sheepeater) in several past lives. Also have seriously contemplated for years on rather was I in a Past Life in the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Era as a mountain man possibly here in the west. But personally, no memories have come to me of this. I feel so absolutely completely at home here in the Rockies. And when I leave the area, I feel so much like a fish out of water so to speak. I always have problems when am in some flatland country. These Rocky Mountains are 'Home' for me Bigtime!!!

And as for the desert, one place that is more desert that I do have an strong affinity to is that Redrock Canyon Country in Southern Utah. I have been here on a number of occasions and every so often just have to have my redrock fix. There have been several occasions where I had a flashback to a past life as a native american living in those redrock canyon environs.

And one thing that I do not have a affinity to is rainy places. I just don't like the rain much it seems. I can take the snow and cold but rain day in, day out, forget it! I once lived in Washington State near the coast for several years and after all the rain, went running back here to good ol' Wyoming.

Rain that comes straight down is alright, but when it travels vertically(as it does in Iceland) it isn't as fun.

Do you mean travels horizontally?

Anyway, I too, love soft, straight falling rain in cool environs. Alot of time spent in the British Isles and northern France. Also a Mediterranean climate (Italy and France, but not Spain)...dry and cool in the evenings have been a staple for me in the past and amazingly comfortable in this lifetime. The mountains in the American west...both Rockies and Sierras have a home feel to them, while the Himalayas hold some sense of foreboding. India...in particular the Moghul northern central area and into Kashmir is particularly poignant...combined with a sense of longing and comfort with the british raj...some kind of deep sense of love involved which I have yet to understand or locate.

Good topic and I'll have to think more deeply about this.

Basically rain in a windy environment sucks. I like gentle rain(or a bit harsh) that goes completely vertical.

I do like a good storm now and then, especially at night when hubby and I are both safely home. But one of the most peaceful afternoons I have ever had happened during a summer rain. No wind, it was coming straight down, not too heavy, not too light. The air was just a little warm (after all, it was summer). Nobody was outside. I had a cup of coffee in hand flavored with a touch of hazelnut. I went out and stood on my porch and drank my coffee while watching the rain come down. Not a sound but the rain.

It was beautiful!

kmatjhwy- I had forgotten about the bugs! Eek! I have been meditating a little, hoping to find some reason why I find the stereotypical "paradise on Earth" so repulsive, but so far I've got nothing.

I am find a sense of wonder in forests. Especially the Sequoia tree. A cathedral of trees.

I also find the desert to be beautiful. It has life where you least expect it.

I loved Hawaii. Rainforest, black sand beaches, tall volcanos and NO ALLERGY ATTACKS! Yeah! Clearest my sinuses have been in decades!

Have you ever been to Big Trees park up here in Northern Cal? It's absolutely breath-taking! (Just be sure to bring water with you, because even the easiest trails can make you work for it!)

Now thought I would post this for whatever it is worth. Before Hawaii was discovered and settled by outsiders,

there were No Mosquitoes in Hawaii. Mosquitoes were brought into Hawaii by the outsiders in what I have heard which I find interesting.

Climate

I love rain the harder the rain the better. I love for it to rain all day and create a lake effect in my yard. If I am at work I will go outside and just let the rain hit my hand and I usually go back to my office with my pants wet from my knees down. But I don

My favorite climate is cool and foggy weather. Especially when you first wake up in the morning and you are driving through the fog on your way to work. When it starts thunder and lightning (and it gets intense) you got yourself a happy camper. :)

I never had a good feeling or memory about the tropics.

Again my post was chopped off.

I was saying :

Terrane

I love mountains, lakes, creeks and green every where.

Driving in fog makes me nervous. Ok if I am just at home with a cup of coffee.

Same here...I get a hard lesson occurred in some Brazilian rainforest...still trying to work that out. Hot, wet and buggy is no way to go through an incarnation, especially when warm to cool, dry and clear is available!

...and what's more, clear mountain air and the amazing vistas they hold have brought some levels of comfort and security which seemed to revolve around quiet and sedate lifetimes, while the coasts, with oceans and beaches seemed to provide an amazing sense of adventure, opportunity and potential, although a much less stable experience.

I find it interesting that in my lifetime I have had extensive opportunities in both these divergent environments; right now I am living in a coastal location but at times the longing to return to the safety and security of the mountains is palpable...although for some reason, apparently not scheduled for this life. My twin flame, who lives in high Colorado, told me I have too much to do this time around than to settle in the mountains with her.

Wow usetawuz

I never looked at that way. But I guess that is how I feel about the mountains.

Mountains can be peaceful, tranquil, alive and quite with an abundance of food and grub.

I feel the coast as fast, exciting, loud and friendly. And it has food and grub of its own.

Yet both can be treacherous in their own way.

Maybe I have had a past life as a mountain person? I do love it so much I have a big frame in my living room. It has snowy mountains in the background with green trees and a river/creek running down the middle. I always day dream and wish I had a cabin 50/100 feet next to the running water. Maybe my next reincarnation I will have my cabin or live nearby?

So, which pulls at you the most? The mountains or the coast.
When I was younger I was all about the mountains, although I had grown up on the coast. Several pivotal events occurred and took me in both directions multiple times and I came to the conclusion when I was twenty that I felt too constricted and limited in the mountains...which sent me relatively permanently to the coast. The choices I made ensured that was where I would go. While the bohemian aspect the mountain life would have enabled was more familiar and a more beneficial life for me, the opportunities for achievement and the places I could go and the things I could do were enhanced by the coastal life choice. My goal is to find the bohemian life opportunities while in the coastal location. Failing that, I can go to the mountains with relative frequency, and I have...it is incredibly cathartic and seems to feed my soul.

One PL exerience that I have with geography, is I'm standing on these foothills, waist deep in green green grass, and as I look down and around me I can see really pretty purple flowers mixed in with the grass. I can see the coast, and the sun is setting. Every time I think of this memory I long to be in that place, if I knew for certain where that place was? I think it might be somewhere in Great Britain. Interesting to note I have never stepped foot in Britain in my life.

I also really like forests for the most part they feel protective to me, although sometimes they can be a little scary too.

I love a good thunder/rain storm. Prefect weather to curl up with coffee and a book or a good movie and some hand quilting, and the same with foggy weather, although that weather is more for deep thinking.

Can't stand the tropics or over warm weather. So you can imagine my pain at my husband being stationed with the Navy in Sicily. I'm not saying that it is not beautiful but it is not my kind of beauty.

Yep those are the comments from the peanut gallery ;)

i HATE the tropics. i cant stand humidity. dont like jungles and rainforesty places. any sort of tropical place i'm not too crazy about. i'd rather take a vacation to Alaska than Hawaii.

i like the look of wilderness, but i dont like being in it. i'm a city girl. i thought it'd be nice to go camping, but no. i probably wasnt a pioneer in a past life lol. i ended up pulling up poison ivy a few years ago not knowing what it was til my mom told me what it was. luckily i'm 1 of the lucky people in the world who doesnt have a reaction to the stuff. but i dont like the wilderness.

i LOVE big cities. love temperate climates with 4 seasons instead of nonstop summer. i LOVE the look of the Bavarian Alps. i wanna go one day, because i never been there. but mountains are pretty.

i live on the coast now (again) and i love the ocean. i like looking at it. i HATE water. i hate being IN water, i hate being close to water, i hate being ON water. but i like looking at it.

i'm not a desert person. i cant stand the American Southwest. i cant breathe in the desert areas. like i literally cant breathe. when we were in Southern CA i'd step outside and i'd have an asthma attack. same with NM, AZ, TX desert areas.

but that's mine :)

Acclaimation to high-altitude regions.

Hello,

This seems to be a good discussion thread; regarding how people acclaimate to living at high-altitudes in their present lives.

Might difficulties in acclaimating to high-altitudes in a person's present life partially be based on a person's past-lives lived at regions much closer to sea-level?

This inquiry might tie-in to health and medical factors carrying-over between past and present lives!

Thank-you

I'm a country girl...I LOVE dirt roads, being secluded and surrounded by nothing by woods, farm fields, and nature. I also love mountains and dense wilderness. Could equally be totally happy living the rest of my life by the ocean.

I love winter and snow, hate summer and hate humidity. I haven't pinpointed these preferences to a past life - I figure that's just me in this life.

I love wide-open spaces. When I first heard there are actually people who are afraid of these kinds of places, I couldn't believe it. Thick woodsy areas bother me because I can't see where I'm going.

I can look at the ocean all day.

I'm the total opposite. I hate cold weather and love warm weather. I'll always say that you will never here me complain about the weather being too hot.

On Terrain: For some reason I have a strong affinity for narrow paths through dense woods. Even the image I see now provides some sense of attraction which I cannot quite put my finger on. I remember as a child we visited a farm and there was a stand of timber...I walked over to it and found a small path that wound around a treed hill. The worn pathway was about 14 inches across and was hard-packed dirt and on each side was moss and leaves and small branches with the trees very close by. I walked back and forth over it for almost an hour and had some weird feeling of expectation, although it only lead to the top of the hill and back. It was as if I would see something beneficial right around the corner that never materialized.

I also was always attracted to woods when I was a child. We owned some land in the hills of southern Ohio, and I spent much of my time in the woods looking for berries or mushrooms and nuts, I knew what plants were edible like the sassafras roots and leaves. I loved picking berries and taking them home to my mother, and she would make cobblers that were delicious to smell in the oven while baking and yummy to eat. I still am attracted to mountains and forests, we are about to go to Yosemite for vacation in a few weeks. I also like the ocean. We will go to the coast and explore California's lighthouses! I hate cities and freeways, LA makes me feel nauseated.
