Time Shifts and Puzzle Pieces

One of the things I have noticed over the years - is that often when doing a meditation, past life experiences will jump from one time and place to another, suddenly and without warning. It will be the same life time -- but I might go from being seven years old to being forty in a second. I feel different, I am older, my thoughts are more mature, my clothing period specific for my age and circumstances. But I am still that same person.

One of the biggest objections to past life recall is that it is imagination or fantasy. However, I have found these jumps and shifts to be very validating. Although they can be frustrating. ;) If it was fantasy, then it should follow from one sequential event to another. When shifts and jumps happen there is no time to plan, plot, create, or devise the shift. It is sudden - without warning and is just as detailed as the experience I was in previously.

The other thing I find fascinating is that I might have an experience, where information about events and scenarios occur but the whole picture doesn't come into view for years; ten to fifteen years. We are living in the information age - and we want information NOW. Past life experiences just don't happen that way. It's really about Knowing Thy Self; a personal journey that it is hard to share with others. I look at it as self discovery.

How about you? Do you experience quick shifts and jumps? Does information come YEARS later?

Hiya Deborah,

During a meditation I do experience a lot of “jumping around” from moment to moment –- but on some occasions I will experience a scene “somewhat” fully, most of the way through –- with little pieces missing here and there…It's kind of difficult to explain -- sort of like you're watching a scene in a movie and every so often you hit fast forward, so you get the general gist, some relevant information -- but there are things missing in between.

Some memories are definitely more detailed and seem to progress for longer periods of time than others. During those times all of my senses are aware and extremely heightened – sight, sound, smell, taste – they are all present.

I record all memories in my journal, of course, and usually they fit together with the bigger parts of the whole. I find it fascinating that some lives I have been working on for over ten years and have very little information on – and others that have come to me more recently I have much more of the puzzle pieced together.

It most certainly does take a lot of time, patience and effort to uncover these past parts of ourselves – and it doesn’t happen instantly. I can’t think of a better investment of my time though – what a gift to truly know thyself – ;)

Love ya,
Aili :)

I've had that sort of thing happen to me fairly often. Until now I've always thought they were simply disjointed memories from this life that I didn't remember. While I've kept a journal for years, I only added what I was sure weren't memories from this life.

At least now I know, and should have figured out for myself, that I should keep track of everything I dream or remember while meditating. I can't imagine what all I've lost by not making more complete notes. Maybe that explains why my PL details seem so patchy. Thanks for the common sense advice.

I wish I had something to offer on this, but I really don't. Until recently, my memories have come from dreams and the scenes generally play out (although not long enough for answers!). I've only begun having fully-awake "flashes" of scenes in the last year or so and they are unexpected, sudden, and short. I've had a few scenes during meditations, but I can't pinpoint much from them.

I do like your idea that the "jumps" are more of a verification, considering how fantasy/imagination would be more linear. I'd never thought about that.

Thanks for posting and bumping this thread, Deborah.

I had a jumping around experience, myself-back before the denial kicked in. I didn't even know what it was.

I'd started writing a novel set in nazi germany, and normally when i write, I start at the beginning and work my way through to the end. With this one, I started at the beginning and the storyline kept jumping around. I've never, before or since, had a writing experience that was non-sequential like that. At the time, I'd not written anything longer than a short story, so i figured that was how it worked when writing a long work of fiction.

While I was writing some of the scenes, I'd see them in my mind with full sensevision and surround sound. I figured I'd just gotten really good with imagining things for writing and just kept on going. All of those scenes featured the same character, on that just wandered into story and took over.

Ignorance is bliss.

It was many years later that I realized what I'd been doing was documenting a series of flashbacks.

By then, it was too late. The manuscript was 'lost' during a fit of anger, so I can't go back and read them over. I still have the memories from it, though. Yick.

I've also had a number of occasions where I remembered knowledge long before triggering a memory that the knowledge came from.

That's hard, because you try and verify the knowledge. If you can't, you have to wait for the memory to surface so you know it's real and not storytelling.

I find this experience interesting. I haven't experienced this before, but in a lot of books I read people would skip from age to age in a certain life memory, as if they were being shown patterns of behavior or events that were affecting them in this life.

Any other thoughts on this interesting thread?

Imagine Leaves on a Branch...

Suppose each leaf represents a life. Other leaves are growing on the same branch, in the same way that other lives are being lived.

We can see that all lives are connected to a central
"branch." Perhaps are true personality is part of each of these lives, yet it can be more than the sum of its parts.

Finally, we can imagine a tiny ant traveling slowly from one leaf to another. She experiences each leaf at a given point in time. She lacks perspective on the true situation, as do we......

Peace,

Richard

I like your tree branch analogy Richard thank you. :)

Do new members have any thoughts?

Thank you Deborah.

Time only exists in connection with the physical body.

When the physical body is disposed of, we are free to be back

in timeless REALITY.

I do believe jumps and shifts can be validating in a weird way. Although they are frustrating.

If it was fantasy, then it should follow from one sequential event to another. When shifts and jumps happen there is no time to plan, plot, create, or devise the shift. It is sudden - without warning and is just as detailed as the experience I was in previously.
Do any members care to add to this? It happens to most of us. How about you? What is your experience of time shifting suddenly within an experience?

I'm glad you posted this - I've experienced it frequently and was frustrated by it. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong in my meditation and that's why I was unable to "hold on to" or focus on one scene or event for too long.

I guess I never considering the jumping around validating but that's a good point. When we imagine a story, for most people it goes in a neat linear way from beginning to end. My memories are all so disjointed and random. I write them all down as they come and try to sort them out later. :)
