Two sons show signs

Hello all, I have been lurking on this forum for a very long time as I find the subject fascinating. I do not have any past life memories myself that I can recall but I have been watching my two small boys intently for any signs. I have an almost 4 year old and almost 2 two year old.

My oldest always makes statements "of when I was bigger, before I was small..." but nothing else really jumps out, I don't have any specific stories that might be past life memories. He has a huge interest in guns (which we don't even allow play guns in our house) and airplanes, but I figure these are just typical little boy interests. He also attends daycare, so I really have no control over what he is exposed to there.

It is my youngest son though that really intrigues me. He has always seemed to love music, music soothed him as a baby and he started dancing (and I mean with zeal!) as early as 6 months. I would not really think anything of this had he not started exhibiting other behaviours more recently. He "lipsinks" to songs in the car while bopping his head - it's quite entertaining. Even that isn't enough to make one scratch their head... It's what he does with anything that looks like a microphone that baffles me.

We have a large entertainment center with a subwoofer speaker on the left hand side. It's about the size of a cynder block and in front of that is a speaker stand. The speaker stand has a small square speaker atop a long pole. It resembles the old metal boxy microphones froms the 40's I think. Well, he will get up on the subwoofer and grab the other speaker like a microphone and start dancing and "signing". To my knowledge, he hasn't seen anything that would resemble that. He does it at least once a week and also just absolutely loves anything with a heavy base beat and he loves to perform. Halloween night (mind you he is 20 months old) he was at a house with one of those signing cats and he put on a real show for the people there, everyone loved it!

He is learning to talk now, so I am very excited about our upcomming conversations and things he might say. I know these things could all be attributed to personality, but I wanted to know if any of you thought it might be something worth watching for?

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your boys' experiences with us. I was wondering if your youngest has any preference for music from a specific time period? Have you ever tried playing some music from the 40's or 50's to see how he reacts?


It's always worth keeping an ear out when they are that age, and always make sure to write down anything unusual that they say, and keep it in a safe place, it could come in handy in the future - ;)

Hi Chris and thank you for the welcome. Yes I have read all the sticky posts.


No, I have not tried any different eras of music but I will certainly give it a try. The first time I caught him dancing, was in his exersaucer while Little Einstein's was on the TV - it was a peppy classical song that was on and I think it was Mozart. For the most part, I have just noticed anything with a rapid, happy beat seems to get his attention. He can be totally engrossed in something or even in another room and if a peppy song comes on, he runs in and starts dancing. The kid has moves too! Not just baby swaying - he gets his whole body into it, head, hips, knees. I will start experimenting with some music and let you all know what he responds to.


I think I will start with some big band music :)

Hey all, thank you again for the warm welcome.


I have been trying different music types with Jacob and so far no real reaction except to heavy base thumping. Although, I was on a website the other day that was playing ZZtop and Jake just started dancing away and doing his "lipsync" thing. It is the funniest thing to watch a kid who isn't even 2 yet acting like that!


Last night I was sitting on the couch and my husband said to Jake jokingly "Who's your Daddy?" Jake patted me and said "Daddeeee!" I didn't really think anything about it but then a light bulb went on - some background info here: Jake has been calling me "Dada" for quite some time now. When I go to pick him up from daycare or if I return from shopping, he gets all excited, runs to me and says "Dada!". This used to hurt my feelings and I repeatedly told him I am Mommy, he will reapeat it as if he understands. If he isn't excited or I make a point of telling him that I'm Mommy, he will call me that.


I was thinking and this may be a stretch, but if souls travel in circles, then I wonder if I was his father in a past life...


On another note he picked up a wooden handle from a plunger (without the rubber part, so it's just a stick) and was tapping it on the floor in front of him and then he would hold behind his head. It reminded me of what baseball players do with the bat when they are up. We don't watch sports in our house, so I don't know where he would have picked this up.


Will keep experimenting with the music.

I'd say keep open and ready to anything he might do or say.


Have you considered writing down some of the things that he is doing now just in case you need it for reference in the future?

Sounds like quite a little rock and roller you have there Dori.

Hey all!


I have been paying close attention to my little guy and playing with different music - so far nothing that I can really say "Yeah that's it!". I have tried swing, jazz, big band, Elvis Presly, Rock and Roll, Motown, Blues, etc lol, he dances a little bit to everything - he especially liked Elvis and Tina Turner though.


Yesterday I was watching a dance competition on the PBS channel where they do the different styles like samba, tango, pasadoble (SP??) but it was all to modern music. Jake came in and started swiveling his hips and spinning around. When I say "swivel" I really mean it, like his lower body isn't even attached to his upper body - it's the funniest thing and I wonder where he gets those moves from!


His Grandmother got him a little guitar (it's a real guitar but just child size). He took the pick, sat down on a little stool and propped the guitar on his knee and started strumming. He did not seem overly excited by it though. Right now it's put up because I'm afraid between him and his older brother they are going to break it.


He is calling me Momma here and there now, but still refers to me as Daddy most often, I still find that interesting - even my hubby knows that when Jake is yelling "Daddy" he is looking for me!


Also this past week, he picked up a small ball and a fly swater (haha) and started playing "baseball" with it. I was amazed at his ability to reason through something like the eye hand coordination required to pitch up the ball and then swing. I know kids are pretty adept to begin with, but I just think he knows things he shouldn't at this age, if that makes sense. I really can't wait for him to start talking in sentences!


As for my 4 year old, I was reading him a bedtime story one night and just in the middle of it out of nowhere and with no relation to the story, he tells me "when I was big, I drove a green truck, I wore glasses and I went to get a burger". That was all he said, it was very matter of fact. The funny thing is we don't use the term "burger", we say hamburger. Also he won't eat hamburgers, never has. His favorite color does happen to be green though. I don't know - it could be nothing or it could be a memory, a nice everyday life kind of memory :)

Update


I have been waiting for a big "aha" moment to post about but so far as of yet, nothing :( At any rate I have a bunch of small things I keep seeing.


Jake is really starting to talk now. He has some multiple word sentances and speaks much better than his classmates at daycare so they are thinking of moving him up, it would be 8 months ahead of schedule. The daycare director is always telling me how smart he is.


Lately he plays with his toys and babbles about water alot, then he turns them upside down and says "I died". He does this with everything from matchbox cars to animals. I keep correcting him and telling him he crashed (when he does it with the cars). I cannot think for the life of me where a 2 and half year old would get the notion that something on it's back is "dead". What does a 2 and half year old know of dead anyway :confused:


He still sings and dances although not as much as he used to, I kind of miss it. I know there were some other things I wanted to post but I'm having a hard time remembering right now - really tired! Will post again when I find them in my brain :laugh:

Children often go through a stage when death fascinates - and often scares - them. I think it's a natural part of their development and connected to them remembering (bits and pieces of) their past life death scenes. :)
