An interesting story. If you have a short story that puts a smile on your face...I hope you share. :)

A man falls down a deep hole and cannot get out. His doctor walks by and the man yells up, “HEY, DOC! It’s me. I’m down here in this hole.” The doctor writes out a prescription, tosses it down and walks away.

Then, a priest walks by and our man yells up, “HEY, FATHER! It’s me. I’m down here in this hole.” The priest writes a prayer, drops it in the hole and walks away.

An old teacher of the man’s walks by, so the man yells up, “HEY, PROFESSOR! It’s me. I’m down here in this hole.” The professor jots down a reading assignment and sends it down.

Then, the man’s friend walks by. “HEY, PAL! It’s me. I’m down here in this hole.” The man’s friend jumps down in the hole with him. “WHAT are you doing? Now we’re both down here. . .”

“Yeah,” says the friend, “but I’ve been down here before. I know the way out.”

I've always been partial to the "Footprints" poem myself. Even though it is religiously based, it's a wonderful metaphor that can easily describe many relationships.

One night I had a dream--
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord

and across the sky flashed scenes from my life.

For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints,

one belonged to me and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of my life flashed before me,

I looked back at the footprints in the sand.

I noticed that many times along the path of my life,

there was only one set of footprints.

I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest

and saddest times in my life.

This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it.

"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,

you would walk with me all the way,

but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life

there is only one set of footprints.

"I don't understand why in times when I needed you most,

you should leave me."

The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child,

I love you and I would never, never leave you

during your times of trial and suffering.

"When you saw only one set of footprints,

it was then that I carried you."

Great story! I've been in that hole myself and was fortunate enough to have a friend jump in with me.

PS: That friend and I celebrate out 9th Anniversary this March!

Yes, when I was wealthy I had many friends. When I lost it all they scattered. Although I had always helped my friends when they were in need, when I was in need they were no where around. The only ones that helped me were my immediate family (and that excludes the family of the ex) and some amazing people on the internet who offered friendship and advice.

That brought a smile to my face for sure. That's why I don't bother going to a doctor anymore and why I'm not in any way religious.

I've had a number of "friends" but anytime I ended up in a hole or even get my foot stuck in a small ditch they were the first ones to run away. Sad to say, I don't know of anyone I could really consider a friend even though I'm well liked by almost everyone.
