What hints should I pick up?

themword

Something clever.
Hey guys, I'm new here. I've been pretty intrigued about my own past lives. Anyway, what are some things that I should look out for that could suggest what they were. I do have some pretty specific hobbies and talents, and fears too.

Hi Themword,

Everybody accesses past life memories in different ways, but here are the types of hints I pick up on...

words/names that come to me in my dreams, or in daydreams that don't seem to have relevancy to the present-day, or to my otherwise conscious thoughts.(I have learned to pay attention to this, because they can be subtle, and easily forgotten as nonsense, but can be very important in validation. For example, I was waking up one morning, and 'saw' the word GIEVE in my mind's eye...I was about to dismiss it, but decided not to. Letting myself think about it, I also realized the word appeared to be above a storefront, and about the same time I realized that, I could hear the echo of hoofsteps on cobblestones and 'knew' a horse-drawn carriage was going by...now after researching, this turned out to be a very strong validation/connection to a past life...I won't go into further detail, as it isn't relevant to your question...but yeah...pay attention...if you get strange words/phrases, either written or voiced. :)

I am more auditory, but along the same lines, if I see things in my mind's eye that are anachronistic, without any connections, that's a clue.

Strong attraction/aversion to other cultures/historical periods than my own present one.

Synchronicities/repeated themes/encounters with people/music/ideas that could convey some kind of past-life message

Then, obviously if you dream about events that are clearly anachronistic, but you feel that you are there or you feel very emotionally involved in the dream that would strongly indicate a past life memory

Hope this helps

Thanks. I haven't had any dreams or flashbacks, but I've certainly had feelings of experiencing something before. I have really strong opinions on war, civil/human rights, and have a terrible fear of needles. Also a strong aversion to hard drugs, and I'm extremely allergic to anything with alcohol. (Sucks right? lol)

I always wondered if I had previously been born during my parents' generation (I'm in my early 20s), because I've always been attracted to cultural things from the 60s-80s, especially music. I have a weird obsession with music, and I've collected records since I was little. I'm not averted to anything modern, but I prefer a lot of stuff that isn't what you'd call current. I've had a lot of my mom's friends joke that I was born in the wrong era too. My mom has a friend that I'm close to that I talk about reincarnation with often, and she swears that I was alive during the 60s and 70s, and died of a drug overdose in the 80s.

This is all very possible and very interesting. The first step is being open to the idea, and the next is choosing to experiment. I'm not convinced that the ability to know about past lives is exclusive to some with "special gifts," rather it's merely a matter of developing the mind in a certain way, like any skill.

You have already mentioned enough strong hints to seed some simple meditation sessions. In my experience it is more about expecting nothing (expectation creates a box your memories may not fit inside) and rather choosing to observe what you find and categorize later.

I'm definitely open to exploring it. I thought of doing a past life regression this summer, but I'm cautious about a lot of phonies who just want your money. I'll check out the thread.

Yeah, I feel like sometimes people try to hard to find proof of their past lives, and that kind of kills the enjoyment of finding it yourself. But I definitely know there's something. I've been told I'm a very good writer (majored in journalism and American Studies) and have leadership qualities since I'm kind of aggressive. But I don't think those are things that should be scrutinized.

I'm around the same age, and I've always been drawn to things of the same era(s) (late 1950s- 1980s) and I've been wondering about that too. Ironically it took me really breaking loose of just sticking to the same era to actually, through a very random (as far as I can tell at this time) dream.

I suspect I might've lived a life in the old west, maybe two different ones at different times in the 19th century but, I don't have any major past life proof for myself...not yet anyway.

For me, the major difference between daydream/imagination and past life dreams are that.. in my imagination, no matter what era I'm writing in- I can control what's happening to the characters. Past Life dreams it's like either you're observing or sometimes emotionally involved, but I guess that depends on the type of dream.

It helps to start keeping a journal and write everything down. Start with your childhood. What kind of pictures did you like to draw? Did you have any odd memories that seemed out of place or couldn't be explained by watching movies, TV shows, books? List your talents and phobias. What kinds of things trigger your fears, etc. Some of these you have already answered. You can also try self-hypnosis using CD's or YouTube videos. Dr. Brian Weiss has a good CD. Other people here have mentioned what works for them.

I agree with our friend, Argonne. You can also start a blog or your own website and keep your data there. I am also working on one as we speak.

The funny thing is that I have no memory at all of anything out of the ordinary with my childhood in terms of things I liked or did. It's like I just existed lol. I just remember being an odd kid who had a lot of trouble making friends, so I read a lot of books, daydreamed, and made up stories with toys. Like they all had personalities and stuff. But yeah, I kept to myself a lot because I didn't really have friends.

You have just described many, if not most, of the members here including myself. We did a survey recently and almost everyone here is an introvert.

I'm kind of a mixed bag. Sometimes introvert, sometimes extrovert. Depending on my mood, I'm either really quiet or really loud. It was more like I reached out to others, but nobody took the bait you know?

I'm usually more introverted, because some social situations tend to overwhelm me to the point where my brain feels like mush... but then being overwhelmed ironically got me that initial PL dream soo... I can be the social butterfly sometimes, but other times I just want to go into my own little corner and just be alone with my thoughts...

Are there any historical figures or particular time periods in history that fascinate you? I say 'fascinate' and not 'interest' because I don't mean it like picking up a history book or watching a documentary on tv and thinking "hey, that was interesting". It can be a specific period or event in history that really captures your imagination over a long period of time... but IS it imagination?

When I was about 6 or 7, I picked up a book about Lord Nelson at the local library. Something about the painting of him on the front cover drew me towards the book like a magnet. I picked it up and read the first few pages and I was hooked. From that moment on, I read every book I could lay my hands on about Nelson, his battles, the ships he sailed on. All the other kids were reading Winnie the Pooh and Enid Blyton, and I was reading about Nelson's battle tactics at Trafalgar, it must have been quite amusing for the adults watching me absorb every piece of information I could lay my hands on. I made models, I drew pictures, I was obsessed. I was very lucky to visit Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory in Portsmouth dockyard, and I could write another ten paragraphs on how that experience affected me.

It wasn't until fairly recently that I discovered during a regression that I was a stowaway onboard one of His Majesty's ships at the time of the battle of Trafalgar. Nelson would have been a national hero at that time and his name would have been on everybody's lips. I wasn't just fascinated by him when I was little, I was actually remembering him!

I don't think I'm the only person who has experienced something like this. My ex partner had a similar fascination with Henry the 8th and his wives when she was a little girl - was she around during that time I wonder? The thing is, if you don't believe in reincarnation, or you don't bring reincarnation into the equation, then we simply brush these things aside and think nothing of it, but for many people, these 'fascinations' that develop at a young age are actually being fuelled by past life memories.

Well like I mentioned earlier, I've been fascinated by the 60s and 70s since I was about 13, especially with the music of that era. Hell, I followed Bruce Springsteen on tour a couple years ago (he's my favorite). :D

I can't really think of any particular figures or events that stick out, but I always thought Richard Nixon was a nasty guy and the Vietnam War always gets my blood boiling, especially because my dad was drafted when he dropped out of college, but he didn't go overseas. A lot of this stuff just kind of came to be when I was in high school though.

So who is your favourite musician from that period? Do you have a favourite Springstein albumn? Is there some music that makes you feel 'all funny' when you hear it? Goosebumpy, excited, nostalgic, or that you just love...

Try putting the music that you think is most evocative on repeat on your iPod or CD player or whatever. Lie down some place quiet where you won't be interrupted or distracted, relax, close your eyes and just let your mind 'roam free'. You might come up with something that might surprise you. Music is a strong trigger for a lot of people.
