A couple of my dreams. or memories?

I typed out a couple of dreams I had. I typed these last night but was afraid to post them because I am afraid people will think I am a bad person, but I think nightrain is right, I need to face this and find out. I want to let everyone know, these may be a bit disturbing to some people, and I hope I do not offend anyone.

The first dream I remember isn't very long. It's like I'm looking through someone's eyes and I'm talking to a large black man who is wearing no shirt and a weird necklace with what looks like teeth and some other things. He has a group of black people behind him who are tied together with rope. I think the person who's eyes I am looking through is mad because they are pointing at the rope people and then holding fingers up and then making other gestures. I also hear someone talking in an angry voice but I don't know who it is. The black man shakes his head and then the persons head turns to the left and there is a white man dressed in clothes like out of that Mel Gibson movie "the patriot" (my husband loves that movie, especially the scene where they are fighting with those axes during that big battle. He watches it a lot but I don't like it. It is so violent!)

In the second dream, I'm looking through what I think are the same persons eyes. I am on a ship. I don't know what it looks like but the floor and bannister are made of wood. There are two men (dressed like that "patriot" movie but they are wearing pants that look like capris. They are holding a black man by his arms and his feet. The person I am looking through waves his arms like someone throwing something. I think they are saying to throw the black man over the bannister. One of the men disagrees and says something that I can understand but I feel like he was saying the black man wasn't dead yet. The person responds in a mad voice (i don't know how, but i feel like they are saying something like "it doesnt matter, he is useless to me" and makes the motion again and the men throw the black man over the bannister railing.

I have a third dream which is the one I had last night. In the third dream, I am somewhere that is very busy with lots of people walking around. The person is talking to someone and they are giving them money, I think. It feels like heavy coins and maybe a couple of pieces of paper. Then they turn and there is a row of black people tied up, both men and women. There is a man and a woman behind him. The man starts untying the black man and the woman runs forward but the rope stops her and she starts crying and it sounds like she is begging in a language I don't understand. The person is angered by this and yells and I think he is telling the to get up and be quiet and something about them not being a "breeding pair". The woman keeps crying and he gets angrier and slaps the woman across the face and she falls back.
I have had that dream a couple of times and it always really upsets me.

I would be thankful for any thoughts anyone has

Thank you for responding cryscat. I think you are right about my dreams being about the slave trade. I forgot to say that before. I hate to say it openly because from what I have read about the slave trade in school and online it was a disgusting thing and only the lowest kind of people did it

Thanks for sharing that HoosierMama. Very detailed and very interesting. Nobody here will think that you are a bad person, because that person in your dreams is not you now. Anybody who thinks that every past life that they have lived has been blameless and good are just kidding themselves. Remember that your soul is on a journey, and it's not always going to be plain sailing. As I always say in these circumstances, you have to experience the full spectrum of different personalities, both good and bad in order to complete the journey. Those 'victims' in your dreams were also on their own journey, and the tables could easily be turned in the next life. I don't believe in punishment for bad deeds commited in the past, the only punishment you receive in subsequent lives is the guilt which you subconsciously inflict upon yourself. Meditation and/or regression can help you to accept what is in the past, and then release those feelings in order to progress on your spiritual path.

Your dreams strike a chord in me, HoosierMama.

I've had some disturbing memories coming to me in the last few months in my meditations, related to slavery, and the thought I could have been involved in such evil deeds causes me nightmares. I'd like to believe ChrisR's words and focus in the present, but I'm finding it hard to deal with the guilt I feel, I even find it hard to talk about this publicly fearing no one would understand it.

As ChrisR knows, I also have memories of being in a ship as a member of the Royal Navy, and I still don't know how true this could have been, but it seems I helped slavers in their work, and I don't know how I could let myself get involved in all this without saying a word.

I understand that happened in the past, but I fear I could make the same mistakes again, as I'm not sure I've changed that much.

Sorry I can't be of much help, HoosierMama, I only wanted to tell you you're not alone in this, and probably we all have done evil things. Maybe we even choose to do them for whatever reason, though I'm not so sure about this yet.

Sounds like maybe you're describing knee breaches - common for men in the 1700s. It's details like these that are good to remember, and write down.

Actually, HoosierMama may be describing the trousers that 18th Century sailors wore, which often came to mid-calf.

England outlawed slavery around 1800. So if the Royal Navy was helping slavers it would have been before 1800. This makes sense. The Caribbean islands like Bermuda, Jamaica, etc. used slaves to make rum, grow sugar cane, etc. This is why there are so many black people on the islands today. Even Cuba.

You would be surprised at how many prominent New England businessmen made money off the slave trade. Everything from bankers who loaned money to Cape Cod ship captains. Not all New Englanders were abolitionists. This controversy is why it took so long to outlaw slavery in this country. If it were not for the Civil War slavery would have lasted longer than it did.

Thanks for your comment, Argonne1918. I already knew the century I lived in, as I got the date of my death quite early in my regressions: 1756, in a naval battle in "waters near Corsica". Though at first it was hard for me to believe that the Royal Navy helped slavers, I found out through my research that they did, though that information is harder to find, I wonder why...

I once got a memory much more difficult to validate: in one occasion I was the one in charge to "deliver" war casualties to their families, and they all came in wooden boxes aboard some kind of "funeral ship" that came at night to the harbour. We disembarked them at night too and transported them to the nearest churches or graveyards.

If someone knows some historic information to validate this, I would be grateful. Thanks!

This surprises me. I always thought sailors who died at sea were buried at sea. Or maybe these were not sailors, but army? Since the bodies were not embalmed they must have died fairly close to home? I wonder if the families had advance warning that their loved ones had died in battle?

I hesitate to even mention this, but the juxtaposition of 18th century, coffins, and sneaking around at night compels me to ask, are you sure you were not involved with selling the bodies to science?

That's another possibility. I thought that happened earlier but maybe it lasted longer than I thought. It was kept secret because the church had strict prohibitions against tampering with the dead bodies. But this was how science learned about anatomy and other things.

this was definately happening in the 1850s. ex-slaves and freed slaves working on the Panama Canal had to endure terrible conditions, and as a result workers suffered high mortality rates, so high that burial was not always possible, so bodies were burnt and buried at sea, or were went to America for use in medical schools. Its probable that similar practices happened during the slave-era too.

Just to throw my 2 cents into the mix.

I was always under the assumption (perhaps mistaken) that un-embalmed bodies were buried at sea because of hygienic reasons due to problems with preserving the bodies on the high seas (especially in the tropical climates).

This was necessary to protect the living crewmembers and the food supply from infestation by various life forms (flies and such).

Perhaps the “Funeral Ship” transported coffins from multiple campaigns and after standing by at a foreign port, transported them back home to America for burial.

Just some thoughts.

Thank you for your ideas!

I don't think selling bodies for science would be the case here, as I remember I had to write condolences notes to relatives in the name of the Royal Navy.

I also read that the French started quite early to throw the bodies to the sea, aware of the fact that could mean infectious diseases aboard, but the British implemented that measure later in time (though I don't know the exact dates).

There's another dark detail about "embalming" (conservation of the corpses) I saw in my regression, but I'm not so sure of it and I prefer to keep it to myself for now... : angel

I'm not sure, but in the Royal Navy at the time it was general practice to bury bodies at sea for hygiene reasons. Thats why it was considered exceptional for Lord Nelson to be preserved in a barrel of brandy after he was killed at Trafalgar to be brought home for burial

I had not heard that before. That was great quick thinking.

Yeah, I knew that, but Nelson's death was quite later in time.
