Hi, I was so excited about a verification I have just made, I thought I would share it ... never know if someone else might be looking for the same thing!
I had a series of dreams I have mentioned here before, relating to a young woman, caught up in a war, and involving a combination of French, American English, and a name/place of Guttenstein... well, in one of these dreams, two women were driving this old car, and when they pulled up at the bottom of a steep muddy hill, they got out and pulled up a stick on the outside of the car (sticking out of the wheel).
Well, as it would, this scene has puzzled me greatly as I have never heard of or seen or even thought about having to get out of a car and pull a stick next to the wheel to park up, or why one would do so once already stopped...
But then this evening I was watching a film called Zoya (based around WW1), and there was a scene after her grandmother died where their friend pulled up outside a building to find someone - and as he pulled up, after he had come to a stop, as he was getting out of the car, he stooped and pulled up a stick next to the wheel of the car!! I couldn't believe it. One fleeting movement in a movie, and it just caught me like a shock from the blue!
I suppose in hindsight, it was obvious that this stick must have been some kind of handbrake/parking brake, but having never seen ought but a modern car, and having only recently learnt to drive, it just had me fare quizzed. Well. Now I know :laugh:
