Anyone familiar with the Inuit and similar cultures?

I'd heard that the Inuit believe that they reincarnate within the tribe. That was before I had a regression in which I saw myself as a native fisherman in the far north. The details were very clear and I was able to describe things about the structure of village society, and how my house was built.

I died from eating fish that had been killed with a poison spear -- said it was a fact of life that occasionally those cleaning the fish did not get all the poison out. A shaman came to my home to usher me through the death, but did not try to save me.

From the details I gave (particularly on igloo construction) I believe I was an Inuit... but I am not sure. Not everything fits. I gave my name as "Wild Boar", and another man in the village as "Running Horse"... although in the regression I acknowledged that that name was very unusual, that we did not have horses in the village.

I am wondering if anyone else has had an Inuit life, or can shed some light on the Inuit culture. I am not sure where I lived... I believe there are similar cultures from the Baffin Bay to Russia.

Have you tried doing an Internet search for more information on the tribe? Very interesting details. Have you come up with any more verifications?

I can't help out with any details but I do know that about two weeks ago the Inuit people started up their own website. The address was something obvious along the lines of www Inuit.com (but you'd better check it out).
They wanted to share details of their culture with the rest of the world, so you should be able to find out loads.
 
Gemeni, I couldn't find the website you mentioned. Thanks for the referral though; I'll keep looking. (How did you find out about it?)

Deborah, I did an Internet search almost right away after the regression! The house-building details checked out, but I have never gotten any confirmation on the fishing techniques or the names.

You might be interested in Amerindian Rebirth: Reincarnation Belief Among North American Indians and Inuit -- by Antonia Mills (Editor).


The book has many anthroplogists that have contributed to the research. It was edited by Antonia Mills who is appointed in the Department of Psychiatric Medicine and the Anthropology Department at the University of Virginia. And by Richard Slobodin -professor Emeritus of Anthropology, McMaster University.


The book is focused on reincarnation and the concepts of self identity, kinship, religion, cosmology, resiliency, and change among native North American peoples from the time of contact until the present day.


The case studies show a wide variety of belief's around reincarnation. Like same clan re-birth and next life identification of specific individuals. Male and female life times - and the inclusion of white people who were identified as being reborn Indians the next life. I find that fascinating and especially the circumstances surrounding life time to life time.


Most of them believe that rebirth happens within one year and that identifying marks such as birth marks - or marks given a dying person can help with the identification process.
