Are kids kids?

Hi All,
I have a nagging question and I hope I can express it in a meaningful way. Since we have been reincarnating over and over since God knows when, what are kids in spirit? I look at my two children every day and knowing that they chose me to be their father makes me love them a million times more. But as souls they were already adults and grew old many many times before. If a child, who happens to be an "old soul," crosses over, would he still be nurtured and continue growing up as a child on the Other Side or wouldn't he just assume the last adult incarnation that he had?

Have you ever read Dr. Michael Newton's books "Journey of Souls" and "Destiny of Souls"? You might find the answer in there.

I have read that on the Other Side we go to age 30. In my experience, however, I have communicated for a very long time with child souls, one who stayed a child and was recently reincarnated and born back into my family.

A dear friend however, lost a brother and has been in communication with him. He has aged along with her and today is the same age he would be if he had survived. His first appearance to her was as a baby not long after his death.

I haven't spent much time talking to this sister, I will leave that for another time.

From what I understand, we all appear about 30 years old in the "between". I think a child would return to his "core" identity when he passes over, just as any person, of any age, would. This is obviously just conjecture. It would be nice to think we have a choice!

I was told by a very wise person that the soul has no age. I believe this to be true. In my opinion our physical bodies age and mature but the soul is another story, governed by laws and rules we cannot comprehend. I think we will someday learn that time as we define it is really meaningless in the big picture. I think the soul "ages" by knowledge, wisdom and experience as opposed to the orbits of the earth around the sun. Thus may come old souls in young vessels.

I seem to recall an older thread on this topic. I'll try to fish it up tomorrow.

I often find myself observing children as a result of my interest in reincarnation, while hoping to capture some hint of the mature essence that they might exhibit from time to time. And, although I occasionally see behavior that may point to past life experience, I still see children that are very much childlike, immature and as inexperienced as we would expect. Their souls—as I firmly believe—may be evolved through the experience of countless lifetimes; but they are still physically and emotionally just kids with empty minds that are waiting to be filled. And yet, I often think that we are all children in various stages of maturity and experience.

I am honestly not sure. I believe it might be based on Christian theology. Jesus was around thirty when he started his mission, so people may have thought that was the "ideal" age. It is the perfect blend of youth and maturity in my personal experience, at least from the vantage point of more advanced years. People who claim to have visited the "between" sometimes describe souls appearing to be about that age. I personally think Tinkerman is right, and the soul has no age.

Mamma, what you said about the two children aging at the same rate after one died isn't unprecedented. The author, Philip K. Dick, who wrote science fiction, including 'Blade Runner', had a twin sister who died at birth. He said that he sometimes was aware of her observing him at a distance, and aging along with him.

I wonder if that isn't just how the soul appears to them. I would think that on the other side we do not age at all, that it isn't a concept, so when we appear to loved ones here on Earth we choose to take the form of how they remember us. It would be very comforting to a child for a soul they were close to to appear as if they were aging along with them, even though they really weren't.

I think what you say is true, Red Night. They appear in a guise we will remember, but some accounts say that they appear younger and healthier, although still recognizable. The relationship between a child and a sibling who has passed is an interesting one, particularly in the case of twins. An opportunity for research, or another thread?

I agree! I think and believe that they appear in a way recognizable to us, or how our brains perceive them to be. I know this can be a taboo subject, but I think it's a fitting example.

My grandmother passed when I was a young child. I missed her terribly after, and I think more so after she passed I realized how much I really appreciated her presence. Anyways, about a year or so after she had passed, she would appear in my dreams, and talk to me. I, being the rational person thought it was just my mind trying to comfort me for my feelings of loss. However- she would tell me things that were going to happen, not just personal things, world events and they would actually happen. I won't go into those details, what my point is, she appeared the same, yet differently to me. She looked like my grandmother I remember, but she was healthy and cancer free. She did not look like the body I remember coming upon. She had a youthful radiance to her, while still looking as she had ( in her 60's) It was the energetic healthiness and wholeness to her that I think made her appear so youthful, yet appearing the same. I hope this isn't too taboo, but I was one of those people who believed yet was skeptical because I am rational. These experiences caused me to think, that not everything can be explained rationally or scientifically. Most things can, but there are a lot I believe that we just can not comprehend which is rational in itself, but it is beyond our abilities.

Thank you for sharing that, Eidelweiss. It was comforting to know she was radiant, and restored to health. If your experiences are not too personal, and you wouldn't mind sharing them, I think many people would enjoy reading a thread about them. Parapsychology would be a good section, if you decide to post.

I don't mind sharing. I wish she would come back again. One night she told me that she could no longer come back to visit because she was "Moving on" to her next journey ( which I believe means she reincarnated) I haven't dreamed of her since. Which is okay, I just hope where ever she is now, she is happy. Reminds me too, of dreams I had as a teenager, way before believing in reincarnation, where I'd dream of visiting my mother and telling her I would be coming back through her. It was weird, because I would be talking to her, and I might as well have been invisible because I felt like a ghost speaking to her and she seemed to have taken no notice to the fact. This is another thing that I had trouble with believing in, recalling in-between lives and contacting parents before reincarnating, and recalling being born in other lives. I can not verify them, as they were dreams and may be my imagination or a work of a dream, but then again, this was way before I believed in reincarnation. So I don't know.

BriarRose,

There is about an 8 year age difference between the two, and the brother ages at the same rate as the sister. In other words, today she is 22, he is 14.

My plate is very full now but I do want to delve into this further in the future. I have talked to the brother once, the sister I love dearly.

My father has appeared to me as he looked just before his cancer, and as he appeared when he first knew my mom (picture James Dean, rolled up jeans, white tee shirt, cigarettes rolled at sleeve ....

He has not appeared to me as he looked before he died. I am glad of that, it is not how I wish to remember him.

To answer Argonne, I've read and reread Journey and Destiny of Souls, two of three of the most amazing books I've ever read (the third might have something to do with this forum). I've also read several times that 30-ish is how souls often appear. In fact, in meditation I saw a vision of my mother-in-law as a radiant young woman in her 30's. I guess maybe sometimes I spend too much time trying to comprehend the uncomprehendable.
