"Bonnie" Jean

I have been trying to watch that movie on Netflix for a while but cannot get sound on it for some reason. The sound gave out about half way thru. It looks really interesting. :)
 
It is a very charming movie, Mama. It's based on a novel by a sci-fi writer who does time travel stuff. They are right on target for most of us here. I read the book, but will have to google to find his name. I am terrible with author's names!

Thank you, Sarellah. She is better than ever! One good thing that came of "remembering", is that I always thought I was bad at forgiving. Now, I know that I'm not! Robert Fraser is napping on the sofa next to me as I type! He has obviously done some powerful evolving also. My thought is that he was a "young" soul when that life occurred, and has had a few hundred years to become the great guy that he is now.
 
Last night, the word "Targes" ran through my dreams. It was evidently a Highland shield, used until the Battle of Culloden. I may have been trying to find a date for Jean's life. I found a picture of Ian's long, knee length shirt. It was worn under the plaid. There was a picture of Jean's long skirt, and plaid wrap. I had to "google" targe to find out what the word meant. I thought this life was pre Culloden, and at least I have confirmation of that.
 
There is so much history in Scotland. I live so near, just below the border & don't really know much-not even the years of Culloden. So bad. Scottish people are very proud of their roots.

Thank you, starrynight. I seem to have been an American of Scots or Irish descent for a few hundred years now. I feel very proud of that. I did have a life where my mother was Jewish, and I am very proud of that, too. I am trying to learn the history of Scotland, but there is a lot to learn. I had no idea what a targe was until this morning. Some had a removable spike in the center that must have made them formidable weapons. I was amused to learn that some had removable, built-in drinking cups!
 
Did you ever make any progress finding the jewel you were looking for? :)
 
Not yet, Totoro. Yesterday, I did find a site with drawings of actual Scots clothing styles from the times before 1800 A.D. The women wore long, plaid wraps, and pinned them with brooches of the type I saw. I doubt that most were as costly as the one Robert offered. One interesting fact, at least to me, was that they indicated their political affiliations by how, and where, the brooches were pinned. If Jean had accepted the pin, I would know if she was a Jacobite.
 
I'm not sure if this is relevant to your brooch or not, but at least in the 15th-16th Century, many clans thought that special, rock-crystal studded brooches were special and powerful objects. They were passed down within a clan and held in great esteem, for example the Glenlyon Brooch.
