Hi everyone, I’m brand new to the forum, and this is the first time I’ve ever taken the plunge to post. About five months ago, I started exploring my Celtic roots—really deep stuff. A lot has happened since then. Does anyone else have memories of the time of the Gallic Wars? I’d love to hear from someone.

Welcome aboard. Things are much quieter here than they used to be, but reincarnation is a topic that in my lifetime (I am in my 70s) has gone through many cycles in terms of the interest of Western people. In any case, I wish you good luck. You might want to use the search function to do some searching in the area(s) that interest you. And, hopefully, someone with some knowledge in that area will turn-up.

Hi Eponia,
It remains a cornucopia of useful and searchable information. And, it was a very dynamic and busy place for almost a decade after I joined in 2014. Posts and interest seemed to drop off radically over the last few years, which is a bit sad, but (as previously mentioned) seems to be part of the cyclic pattern of interest in this subject I have seen over my lifetime.
I assume there will be an upswing in due course, but it may not be until the next generational cohort comes of age. Just guessing.
Meanwhile, you might generate more interest (and also leave something of value for someone like yourself who is interested in the same periods that interest you), by posting your memories and questions.

Not of the Gallic wars. Mine are of the Teutroburg Forest Battle on the German Tribes side.
Thanks for your reply! It’s interesting that you have memories of the Battle of Varus (Teutoburg Forest) from the Germanic perspective. I myself have connections to the time of the Gallic Wars - the Gallic side.
How do you feel about that? Are there certain aspects of these memories that stand out particularly strongly for you?

I seem to know about the German tactics without reading a book. We planned that ambush and it worked perfectly. We had the Ghost Warriors hit that legions at night, while the rest of us hit them in the day. Wiped out the legions and we hoped it would send a message to Rome. STAY OUT! As for how I feel about it now, its history. It happened and it still makes me smile that we won.

Yes, you were victorious. For us, unfortunately, it ended quite badly and tragically. I'm still coming to terms with it.

Yes Gallic people were unable to do what the Germanic people did. The border between Rome and Germanacia was set at the Rhine River. This division of Europe still effects the modern day politics. The Picts in Scotland managed to keep Rome out as well.

Unfortunately, at a certain point, almost all Celtic territories were under Roman occupation (except for Eire and the area north of the Danube—a natural border, but heavily guarded by Roman patrol boats).
As a woman from the Gallic community of that time, I carry these memories with me. Back then, I was in favor of taking action against the Romans. These memories include both moments of victory and hope that we could succeed, as well as very intense recollections of the great defeat in which I was closely involved. The feelings I had when everything fell apart are, in part, still very vivid and emotionally taxing. In the past, I also experienced severe physical symptoms (e.g., shortness of breath), which have only improved significantly since I began to deeply explore my Celtic roots.
