I hope I'm putting this in the right area :confused: I haven't exactly gotten used to putting these in the right area. So correct me if it's in the wrong place.

Anyway, a couple night ago, I had a dream that I was an English man in the 1600 to 1700s possibly. I was standing on the docks of some place, and another man I knew came running up yelling my name. My first name was Damien, but I couldn't make out my last name. It sounded like "Rottard" to me. I was getting on this ship for some reason, and this man had decided at the last minute to come with me. We had a lot of provisions and tools that would be appropriate for an expedition, and what looked like map-making tools. Perhaps this Damien Rottard was a mapmaker.....


I woke up and was all "what a wild dream!" What has caused me to remember it however, is the name. I repeat it in my head, or let it roll off my lips and it just sounds "right".

I am currently doing some research on the internet regarding this, and so, if you have any information regarding this, it would be greatly appreciated.

This is the first time I've ever heard the name of a PL mentioned in a dream. During a regression, I managed a first name for my WWII life, which was along the lines of "Henry", "Heinrich", "Heinz", etc.

So, a first and last name while dreaming is a HUGE milestone for me.

EDIT: I think I may have spelled "Rottard" wrong. Maybe "Rotthard".

But I can help you with the ship. I was also an Englishman in the 1700s. Pirate hunter Jonathan Barnet (As my sis was Anne Bonny, I can safely assume I was him and I am starting to have memories but I don't know if they're influenced..). Don't be fooled, only the name is glamorous. That job can literally give you butt cramp... :freak: Plus its incredibly dull..


How does the ship look like? Big? Small? How many cannons and how big are the mast? That can help a lot as British ships are categorized by rates during that time and certain ships are made for certain occupations.

Wow, thanks for sharing Mammatus! That is a very detailed dream, I hope you write them down.


I have recently begun to get names in my PL dreams for the first time ever, I wonder how many others are too...


As for your research of the name, here's a couple questions: Did you literally hear the name, in which case you are spelling it like it's said? OR, did you get a mental impression of the name, kind of seeing the spelling in your mind? I have done this, like I know it's spelled with a 'K' instead of a 'C', when there's really no way I could know that.


From what I could find, the name Damien - region of origin is Europe, whereas Damian (spelled with an 'A' instead of a 'E') originates from Greece. As for the last name, it could depend on what country/area you were from.


Also, there is a hereldry crest (pretty much all sur-names have them) that mentions the 'Rottard' family on Wikipedia.com. Considering that you were associated with ships, I thought it was interesting the the crest has seashells on it. Hope this helps.

Its mostly likely either Rottard or Routard. These two spellings do pull up some family name info. The Routard name I found in Scotland in the 1800's. Rottard seems to have Von Wiltz attached to in, it some cases.
 
It was sort of a mix of "hearing" it and receiving a visual impression. Especially with "Damien". The last name I'm not sure about, so I spelled it phonetically.


I saw the crest and must say that is very interesting that it has seashells on it!


What Cryscat said about Scotland caught my attention, since my father's side of the family can be traced back to the Scottish highlands. I wonder if I might be related in some way to this individual as well.


I will kep up my investigation and see what I find, and post back here.
 
I was going through my mental record of memories and it occurred to me that the man I was in one of them was the same man I was in the dream I just shared.


In this particular memory, myself and my colleague (the man who called my name in the dream) were being held prisoner below the deck of a ship (possibly the one we boarded in the dream). The men who held us prisoner were a rough bunch, pirates possibly?


They starved us and scared the living everything out of us half the time, until they decided one cloudy, stormy day to keelhaul us into the frothy Atlantic water below.


Now, I remember thinking at the time that the man who keelhauled us looked an awful lot like the man we know today as Blackbeard, but I dismissed it.


I came back to this memory today, and now I wonder if it's a possibility....


It would also explain my fascination through elementary school with Blackbeard and the Queen Anne's Revenge.


Again, I will look into this more.
 
Got drowned by pirates? Well, it could be Blackbeard as it is quite well known that pirates love terrorizing fishing vessels and other ships. Must have been scary..

Have you ever seen the reality TV show "Survivor," Mammatus? One of the most popular guys who ever played the game (and my personal favorite contestant) was Rupert Boneham, from Indiana (I've heard he's actually running for governor). I remember he once claimed -- I'm not sure it was in jest or not -- he might be the reincarnation of Blackbeard. Seems like he's too nice a guy to have been the real Blackbeard, though ... :rolleyes:
 
I've heard of it, and seen maybe five seconds of it. I'll make a point of looking it up this weekend when I have time.

You say you were being held captive on the ship that you boarded in your dream? Is it possible that rather than being taken by pirates you experienced mutiny?


Have you considered if you were going to Australia? I know I'm in danger of leading you on, but I can't help thinking about the many transports where thousands of prisoners were sailed to the new British colonies there and in New Zealand. However, the British knew that prisoners alone couldn't build a nation, so they also dispatched people that could control and help creating a new society down under. I could imagine that it would have been absolutely necessary to bring a mapper to these new lands as well.


I'm just wondering if any of these transports, filled with prisoners ever experienced mutiny? I know the prisoners were allowed a degree of freedom on board while at sea, e.g. they could walk around and take part of the daily life on the ship. However, their destiny was sealed and once they reached their destination they were doomed to a hard life in an unfamiliar environment. If they could take over the ship it meant a ticket to freedom.


It's just a thought, but it's worth investigating, I think :)
 
I'm not sure. It remains a possibility. I do remember there being items on the boat specifically for prisoners, and my initial speculation of our captors was along the lines of "rough, but I don't think they're pirates". I could be wrong I guess, but heh....


I look into further.
