desperate for help

I never believed in reincarnation until my son was born in 1998. Literally when he was born I felt "forgiven". Since then he has shown himself to be different than our other children (we have 6 and yes, by choice :) ). He has reached physical milestones on target but academically he was always ahead of others.

By the time he was 18months old he knew all of his ABC's (upper case and lower and not by rote memorization), numbers, colors, shapes. He would make remarks about his friend not keeping his mouth shut causing him (my son) to get his nose "busted open" (this remark was said when he was when he was 2 1/2) and many other little "one liners" as I like to call them.

Our problem is now this: He's suddenly doing things he says he can't remember. Like stabbing a knife through his younger sister's closet wall, an obsession with fire. I thought he was psychotic and worried to I had him committed to a children's psychiatric hospital. While there they said they found no indications of mental illness. Why a member of the staff found alarming was how he knew about bear traps (the old kind with the teeth you stepped on in the middle) and "snare traps". He even drew detailed drawings of them for the staff. That staff member suggested I have our son see a hypnotherapist because a past life could be causing problems now. Just this past friday night he fell asleep in the living room and woke up shouting "die, die, die". About an hour later he woke up in a panic saying "they're trying to shoot me". My sister in law was shocked. For me and my husband this is just a part of our son.

Should we have him regressed? We have never minded the memories but now it seems that he's going on autopilot (and all the incidents/problems he is causing is when everybody's sleeping). Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Busymom,

Have you read Carol's books? Specifically the first book. Chapter One is on the web. You might find them helpful. Have you tried to contact Carol? It sounds like you could use her advise. Write down what he says, what he does and how he acts. It will become invaluable in the future and for reference.

Welcome to the forum, Busymom. It certainly sounds like you are being kept busy with everything going on there. :)

I agree that it sounds like you need the help of someone who is well versed in past lives to help your son. The staff member has made a good observation in suggesting that the problem stems from a past life.

I also suggest reading Carol Bowman's first book, as it has a lot of advice on how you as a parent can help your son. I also think contacting Carol would be a good idea. She is the owner of this forum and is in a better position to advise you on how to proceed and where to find help.

It sounds to me like your son may have had a life as a trapper at some point and a rough life at that. Perhaps there is more than one life that is surfacing. Deborah has already suggested writing down everything. I would like to add that you may want to include your sons drawings that correspond to his memories. Have him draw anything he knows about or remembers.

I'm glad you found us. This is a good place to talk about your son's memories and how you are dealing with them. People here are very supportive and helpful, many are parents that are going through, or have been through, similar experiences. So again, welcome. :)

Chelle

Welcome to the forum Busymom! :)

Deborah and Chelle already gave you great advice!
I also think that contacting Carol Bowman would be a good idea. ;)

 I was quite impressed that the staff at the children's psychiatric hospital mentioned that you son's behavior could be past life related...
It is good to know that we can find people with an open mind at some hospitals!

Thanks for sharing your story with us and please, keep us posted. :)

Thank you for the responses. It is funny that it was mentioned that he might be having more than one life "surfacing" as that is what the staff member at the hospital suggested. My son also has this thing with food. When he was 2-3 1/2 he went on a food strike. Only ate cold cereal with NO milk, toast, crackers. Nothing else. We literally had to take him to a specialist and force feed him. Now he eats but at times its very laborious. When he used to get up at night and steal food I was mad because of the stealing but he never ate any of it. He once remarked he "might need it for later". Another time we were playing in the rain and he said his mom never let him play in the rain. I told him he was silly, I am his mom. He said, without even pausing, "no, my other mom before you".

Today I contacted a hypnotherapist. He is currently moving offices :( so we have to wait two weeks before we can take our son. I go in his room in the evenings and try to talk to him while he's sleeping and tell him who he is now and that the past is over. Last night he woke up insisting he was driving his car and some people were trying to shoot him. It was awful. Is this kind of behavior normal or to be expected from past lives coming into current lives? Right now I'm frustrated because of having to wait for the therapist and my husband is deployed to Iraq (which the day he left these physical problems began) so I'm wanting immediate results or answers. I used to be so patient. I think this is hard because when your kid is sick you know there is a time line to go through and then they're better. With this is so unknown...

Hi Busymom,

Talking to your son while he is asleep will probably help some. I do the same with my son...
I understand how frustrated you are now having to wait for the therapist but try to use these two weeks to make notes and read Children's Past Lives... Carol's book is very informative and it will help you understand and deal with your son's memories...
You can also contact her through this website and ask for some advice if you like.
You're not alone. ;)

HI Busymom,

Could you please explain more what you mean by ("which the day he left these physical problems began) so I'm wanting immediate results or answers. What physical problems? I am not sure I understand. You have suggested acting out -physical aggression, but not physical ailment. Perhaps I missed something?

It will also be very important for you to read the chapter in Carol's book on Triggers. If your son is close to his father - his "problems" may be linked to his dad. Emotionally. Sometimes we parents are clueless -as to how we affect our children and how our own past lives inform the NOW.

HI Busymom

HI Busymom,
I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you and your family. I am going through something similar with my son right now and often feel that I wish he just had a fever, then my only decision would be motrin or tylenol.
The decisions are a lot tougher when you are debating whether or not to commit your child to a psychiatric facility, have them hypnotised etc.
The decision for me to have my son hypnotised is the toughest. I know Carol generally feels that a child should be older than your son and mine (5 1/2). I have heard that they should be 11 years old or older but you really should talk to Carol. She is also some kind of therapist and she would be able to look at your son's situation from other angles.
I had decided not to hypnotise my son but then an odd thing happened yesterday. My son's kindergarten teacher was on a cruise and she saw a psychic on this cruise. The psychic told her she had a little boy in her class that was black and that he needed help understanding that he has started a new life and that he needs to be regressed. His teacher told the psychic that she has a little boy in class who speaks of a past life in Africa (my son) and the psychic said 'its him.' So, now I am a little unsure again.
My son also remembers several lives. It worked for me to talk to him about this just before he goes to sleep. They are generally more relaxed at this time.
I told him about reincarnation and that he is in this lifetime now and that he helped God choose us as his mommy and daddy. This is where he is supposed to be and all of the people in his past life are either far away in Africa, have died and are still in heaven or have died and chosen another life like he has. All he said was, 'I know Mommy. Noah (his new little friend from school) was with me in Africa.' So, we go back and forth and I've had to explain it several times. He gets confused and gets to places emotionally where he is angry and accuses us of taking him from his African family and 'faking photos of his birth.'
Anyway, good luck to you. Get all of the information that you can before you see the hypnotist. It really helped me to read Carol's books. They are interesting, informative and easy to read. There is even a chapter in one of them about how to handle the past life memories with your child.
Vicky

Hi Deborah--I'm not sure how to quote on this forum so I just cut and pasted the above bit from your post. The exact day my husband left to go to Iraq our son began acting out physically such as hording food (not eating it) like dry cereals, some candy, LOTS of peanut butter (he HATES peanut butter), stealing money from his siblings, waking up every night from around eleven to five am. It has progressed to stabbing a knife through his sister's closet wall and one night he tried to burn a roll of toilet paper. I was ANGRY and was yelling and wanting to know why and he kept saying he didn't like the house. All the sudden he quit talking, looked at me shook all over and started crying asking me why he was out of bed.

Physical ailments--he's started peeing in the bed at night and having bad dreams. He keeps saying someone's shooting at him or he shouts "Die" ove and over. Sometimes he talks about his car not going fast enough to get away from "those people". Yesterday he blew me away by showing me he could write in cursive (He just turned 7 on Thanksgiving). I guess I didn't explain myself clearly. Sometimes I'll write something and look back and it is mis-spelled or not explained clearly.

I am getting Carol's book. I just don't know what to do. All our son's life he has done or said bizarre things and we've laughed it off and joked about reincarnation but as of late we are not joking anymore. He spent 2 1/2 weeks in a children's psychiatric hospital (the knife and burning toilet paper was too much and I was worried about the safety of him and my other kids). The doctor's went over him with a fine tooth comb. They said he has no issues to worry about other than maybe he is having a hard time with his dad deploying. The nurse that suggeted past life problems said maybe dad deploying was a trigger and that he thought it was a couple of lives based on conversations with our son and the intake history I gave.

This is so new and unusual for me. I'm dumbfounded right now by his behaviors and the very likelihood of reincarnation so if I don't sound clear, please excuse me. THanks for listening though.

Dear busymom,

I´m far from an expert on this but my personal impression is it sounds a lot like your son is experiencing memories of war trauma or something a lot close to it. The fact that his father leaving for Iraq triggered things off would seem to point in that direction, too (not to say that the fact of one´s dad going away to war couldn´t be hard enough all by itself).

Mainly what I wanted to say on this is, in my opinion, it´s important to see it´s all about fear (panic, terror). The aggressive behaviour would be motivated by this as a strong drive to defend himself (irrational, though it be) against an immediate threat to his life.

Remember: He´s not crazy. You are not crazy. This thing is difficult but natural.

And: There is no actual, real danger anymore. It´s for you to know this and bring it over to him.

One suggestion is (again, I´m just a trial-and-error-parent myself) : If it´s possible and feels right to hold him a lot, maybe quite a lot more than usual, "protecting his life" (in his experience, not yours) with your body. If I´m not way off here, this physical concrete expression of love and safety and being there for him, would be important and grounding in a situation like this.
(And I don´t mean this as a definite solution more like a piece of the puzzle.)

The experience of physical safety is the one thing you long for most, I think, living in a situation where your physical existence is (perceived to be) threatened every minute of the day. The food-hoarding could be pointing to this as well.

(BTW I´m speaking from believing/experiencing myself to have been suffering (in this life) from the effects of PLwar-trauma myself. )

God bless you and your son.

Dear Busymom,

I am concerned about your son. (and you too!) Your story of your son's behaviors is not the typical story of a child remembering past lives. While it is possible that all of his behaviors are related to past life trauma, I think it would be prudent to not assume that that is the whole explanation. I find your comment that "All the sudden he quit talking, looked at me shook all over and started crying asking me why he was out of bed." revealing. This suggests to me that he was in an altered state, perhaps similar to such that one encounters in people who sleepwalk, perhaps something more unusual.

I hope that you and he are under continuing medical care/observation of a well qualified and experienced mental health professional, preferably someone with a PhD or an MD. Don't rely on social workers or psychologists who just focus on run-of-the-mill testing or behavior modification. Get a second opinion. Don't accept the verdict of those in the psychiatric hospital without getting additional evaluations. Find someone who will look beyond the accepted standards of practice and be willing to consider something more esoteric. Professionals of this quality and expertise will be hard to find and there may not be one available to you in your area. You will also open yourself up to quacks who will take advantage of your fears, your naivete and your pocketbook. Take care and find an experienced reputable practitioner. Probably 99% of the people in the psychiatric field are not familiar with, open to or will not consider any explanation other than that based upon mainstream psychiatric diagnostic criteria. Finding the right person may be next to impossible to do, I suppose.

I hesitate to say anything that might increase your anxiety but in my opinion, your son's behaviors, in total, are far outside of the norms of past life recall. He needs help now from an experienced medical/psychiatric professional who will , at least, consider spiritual explanations for what is going on with your son. Good luck Busymom, keep in touch!

Your friend, Wicker

Here´s just a short addition to my post above:

I said: "And: There is no actual, real danger anymore."

Well, what must make it harder than just this is, in his case there is actually a real danger, i.e. to his father who is, if I understand correctly, away in a war-time sitaution.

I think (not being an expert) this would be a situation extreme enough for a little boy to account for the behaviour maybe somewhat stronger than usually in PL experiences.

I don't know quite how to ask this question or statement. I think I remember reading that when you are asleep, you are more in touch with other, not realities, but maybe memories. What I'm trying to say is it makes sense to me that the boy would be acting out past life memories in his sleep.
People astral project when they sleep and many people on this forum speak of remembering past lives when they are asleep. Like a dream that is different from any other dream you've ever had.

Hi Busymom,

Carol tells me that you have contacted her. This is good. She will give you good sound advise. Members can only offer suggestions. But Carol has the training and almost 20 years experience to help guide you through this affectively. I know her book will be of assistance to you.

My brother acted out in similar fashion when he was young - but it did pass; there was a time of forgiveness and healing. If you embrace him, and the whole situtation with positive and loving energy - positive things will happen.

I also suggest a blue light in his room at night. It seems to have a calming affect for children with sleeping problems.

Hello all--First let me say thanks to everybody who's posted responses and suggestions. I think so many things are hitting my son at once and right now its really hard to sort them out. Like I said in an earlier post, my husband and I used to joke around about our son and reincarnation.

We joked around that we brought home the wrong baby because when he began talking he called me "muh-mah" instead of mom or momma. We've always been OK with his "one liners" but as of late I am worried. Currently he is under the care of a psyche doctor as well as a pediatrician. Fortunatly for me, they are both at the same hospital. One therapist we had suggested several "good spankings" would solve our problems.

Another one we didn't like as she had too much of a "make love not war" attitude. I am not a strict disciplinarian but I do believe that some things we are able to make choices over and sometimes we need coaching to make those appropriate choices.

In regards to what Wicker posted--you are absolutely correct in all your posted which is why I'm so worried. I don't want my son to be taken advantage of, nor my wallet. I think he has several issues going on which for whatever reason have come to a head at once. I am hoping they will resolve soon as I am certain he (our son) can not be happy with all that is going on. I even let the hospital (psyche) talk me into putting our son on meds for a week and it was awful. I didn't recognize him. I ordered Carol's book and will devour it once it arrives. Last night I read a book about past lives and it was really interesting.

Vicky--you mentioned astral projection--what is that? I don't mean to sound naive. I believe in ghosts and spirits as I have lived and seen both but that's as far as I've ever experienced (to my knowledge) outside of the "norms" of growing up in the Bible belt.

Thanks to everyone again for the advice and suggestions. I will keep everybody posted on what goes on.

One therapist we had suggested several "good spankings" would solve our problems.
Busymom, I think this guy should forfeit his license.
I even let the hospital (psyche) talk me into putting our son on meds for a week and it was awful.
I am glad you stopped in just one week.

Busymom, I am going to make a suggestion that practically everyone in this forum will disagree with. But first, let me tell you a bit about me. I am from India where reincarantion has been known for thousands of years and some village wisdom has evolved over those millenia about how to handle problems arising from past life experiences. Secondly, my daughter was troubled by her past life memories when she was little over 2 years old. In her case, since I was familiar with her past life issues, I decided that it would be in her best interest if she made a clean break with her memories and started this life with a blank slate. Fortunately, she was done with her memories in about 2 weeks and then flourished as a loving child. She is now 18 years old and a freshman in college.

I think your son also needs a fresh start. I suggest that you actively discourage him from relivng any of his past life memories. I think you should channel him away to this life's business every time his mind wanders back to his past. There is nothing to gain by remembering and being bothered by past life events. The sooner he forgets, the better off he will be. No counsellors and therapists can help your son like loving parents can.

I just want you all to know I'm in touch with BusyMom. I will be talking to her as soon as we can arrange a time.

I just had to respond to Kris's post about bringing a child back into the present if they are remembering a past life. In may work in some cases, but not all. In the cases I've been following over the years, sometimes the only way a child can move on is to express the past life memory to an accepting, informed adult so the adult can help the child process the memory in an appropriate way. I talk about this at length in my first book, and it's too involved to get into in an email.

I believe that you have to look at each child's case and discern what needs to be done. In this case, I wouldn't venture to guess what's going on until I talk to BusyMom. Even at that, I can only make suggestions and leave it to the professionals who have evaluated this child. There may be past life material surfacing (sounds like it to me), but also other things, too.

We will continue to support you, BusyMom.

Carol

Hi Busymom,
I'm not exactly sure what astral projection is but as best as I can tell, it usually happens when you sleep. Your spirit leaves your body but is still attached by something called the silver cord. You can see this cord. You can fly over people, your house, over things that are actually happening.
I have read very little about this but it has happened to me twice. My son recently started telling me that he has been doing this. I don't seek this kind of thing. I wouldn't care if it ever happened to me again to be honest. But since it has happened to me, I know it is real. Plus, as you already know, when your child tells you something like this, there is no denying it. If it wasn't for it happening to me or for my son telling me about it, I probably wouldn't believe it - actually, the same goes for reincarnation before my son started talking about his past lives.

To Kris----I think I understand your point about not wanting your child to relive something that might be stressful to them. However, I also think that just because you don't allow them to talk about it or make it uncomfortable for them to do so, doesn't mean they won't think about it, stress about it and worry about it.
As for me personally, I'm glad my son talks to me so that I can help him and guide him, even though at the present time I have no idea how to do that. I just feel its better to know what he's feeling.
For example, my son doesn't understand how he got to this life or how he left his last one. He says that it keeps him up at night (serious fears and sleeping trouble) thinking that his other family might come back and get him. He also talks about killing himself and I think he says it because he just can't make sense of it all and he didn't get a chance to say goodbye to his last family. He gets that if he dies, he might see them again.
I'm really glad that he has told me he's thinking these things. This way, I don't commit him when he talks about killing himself. I can talk to him about the ramifications of that from all angles and I have developed a ritual where we write that family a letter and will burn it to send it to them through the smoke of the burning paper. We will do this the next time he brings it up.

Still thinking about you Busymom and wishing you the best. Like Carol said, you have a lot of support here.

desperate for help

Busymom. These people here are great. I began experiencing memory flashes when I was pregnant with my first child, and I did not know what they were and I was afraid to tell anyone. They continued on for 20 something years until I found Carols book after my daughter told me of her past life memories. She was in her early 20's and she still carries those memories and deals with them well. I had begged and pleaded for a computer for years for the sole purpose of finding Carol Bowman. When I read her book in early 2001, I more and more came into the realization of the flashes that I have had since my first pregnancy. For the first time in my life, I am not depressed. I feel like I have come from under a dark wet heavy blanket to dance in the sun. I am so grateful that I found Carol Bowman and this forum. It would have been a shame to life my whole life in that shape. My thoughts are with you and your child. Everyone here passes on their love and experiences and guidance, and I hope and pray that all will be good soon and your lives will be spent dancing in the sunlight. Love and prayers, Nora

How scary for you. Heres a hug. I wish I had some suggestions but I don't. I just wanted you to know that I hope everything gets better. I'm sure that one of these individuals in here will gladly offer suggestions though.

Update

Hello to all. I thought I'd pop in and post an update on my son. If you folks remember, our therapist was moving offices then his furniture ended up in the bottom of a lake  so our hypnotherapy was on hold. I took this boards advice and every night, right when he fell asleep, would talk to him. I would tell him who I was, his dad, family members, who he was now, et cetera. MY GOODNESS--what a relief! He's still not perfect but he's not doing the dangerous things he used to do.

We did finally get to the therapist. W was afraid and even though he went under several times he would shake himself awake. My husband let himself go under to show W that it was OK. No such luck (grrrr). I acted all chipper and told W that he did a very grown up thing to trust us and we'd try again later. Now our therapist is in Florida at conferences and classes. We're planning on trying again in February.

I did buy Carol's books and read them. Wow--some things hit like a ton of bricks in regards to William. Especially from "Return From Heaven". I thought I was crazy back in November 1998 when W was born but I told my husband I knew W and my husband said "of course" like he's your kid kinda response. But I felt so different about him than any of my other kids. I literally had a feeling of forgiveness directed at me. Now, when I read "Return From Heaven"'s chapter on abortion I cried. I had an abortion back in 1991, then in 1993 had my first son, J, 1997 I had L. I am telling you this to show birth order and age difference. During the Christmas school break, J and W were cleaning up the playroom and fighting over picking up the same toys. They were bickering and snatching duplo blocks when W snaps (paraphrased) "So what if you got most of the blocks" but then his exact words were "I was supposed to be the oldest". When he said that it knocked the wind out of me.

A couple of weeks ago W started being a real bear. I was sick and snapped at him that he chose me to be his mother and so he should trust me when he stopped on a dime and said "Oh yeah".

I am anxious to bring him back to the hypnotherapist and see what happens. I'd love for him to go under so we can find out what's going on and resolve it. He's still stealing and hoarding food but lately he wants me to sleep with him for a while (which melts my heart and lately we both need it). Its so weird to see W as the 7 year old he is then the kid that has breezed through two grade levels in reading in less than six months then the kid that hoards/steals.

All of this (and other people's opinions) have made me wonder this: Is is really important to know what the past life is if its what's causing problems for him or just know that hypnosis helps him resolve his problems? I vote the first, my husband the latter. Does that make sense? If anybody else has any advice or suggestions--I'm open! BTW--Carol Bowman's books are so awesome! I wish I had read them when W was an infant. How does one give them as a gift to a new parent without coming across as a nut??

Hello Busymom! :)

I am so glad to hear from you and know that William is doing better!
Yes, Carol's books are awesome. Return From Heaven is also my favorite. ;)
Trying to answer your question, i believe that knowing about your past life can help you heal some opened wounds that could have been carried over from a previous lifetime and also help you forget and let go of the past.

Thanks for the update and keep us posted! :)

Busymom,

It was so nice to read your post and hear things are getting better already! :)

I think it doesn't hurt to know your past lives and sometimes it's a must for healing, but sometimes we are not ready to remember them and then maybe you can get help other ways in hypnosis - without remembering the details from your past lives. (I'm not sure I got your question right.)

Karoliina

Hi BUsymom,
I'm glad things are getting better. Is your husband back from Iraq?
I started talking to my son while he was asleep after Fab suggested it to you and it helped. Two other things helped too that I thought I'd pass on. Deborah suggested that we have my son draw what he is afraid of. He did and that very night the sleeping issues improved. I've learned not to get too excited about that but it has been three weeks and he is still going to sleep with very little trouble.
The other thing that helped is something called a Beddy Bear. They are teddy bears stuffed with lavendar or lilac. I think lavendar is naturally calming but I'm not sure. We have the lavendar one and it has worked very well. You heat them up in the microwave right before bed. I heat ours for 1 minute.
I thought my son would balk at this because he would say he was too old for teddy bears but his friend left one here and he really likes it.
If you're interested, you can get them on e-bay for about $12-15 dollars.
Good luck to you.
Vicky

Hi Vicky! :)

I started talking to my son while he was asleep after Fab suggested it to you and it helped.

I am glad to know that it also helped your son! :) It's funny how the little things seem to help a lot sometimes!
I also liked your idea of a Beddy Bear. I will look for one today. ;)

Take care!

Your question can be answered meaningfully with the understanding of karma. By this I mean understanding how karma operates, not the details of past life situations. Past life actions (karma) cause problems only because the person could not resolve the issues they generated in the past life. Knowing those issues through hypnosis or by other means merely takes a person to the point where he left those issues in his past life. Is the person somehow better at handling them now is the real question. In most cases, the answer to this question is probably not. And thus person is back to square one, where he was in his past life.

In an ideal situation, past life memories should not be seen as "issues" or problems at all. I did not consider my daughter's past life memories as any kind of problem. Unfortunately with the Western society's ignorance of reincarnation, past life memory is always treated as an anomaly or a sign of disturbed personality. That creates a need for "treatment". If you ask me, if a child has past life memories, and it becomes a "problem", it is the parents who need treatment, not the child. Thus in a way, past life therapist can be a help.

No matter what the reason for a child's disturbed behavior, my experience tells me that the child will always respond positively to the love he receives from his parents. It helps enormously when parents know that their child is dealing with past life issues, not that they necessarily have to know the details.

I'm not an expert, but in my experience I've found that when I can pinpoint when and how a problem starts, whether in this life or a past one, I tend to automatically correct that problem without really thinking about it. From what I've read about past life therapy, when a memory doesn't help release the problem, there is usually more to the problem than what has been uncovered. For example, there are sometimes other memories that contribute to it and haven't been explored yet, or the person doesn't want or is afraid of the consequences of letting go. Sometime the love and support of family and friends can solve that problem, but sometimes more help is needed, such as from a professional such as you are seeing.

That said, I think if a past life is involved, remembering and letting go is an important part of healing. They hypnosis involved is just an enabler for those that need it.

Thanks for the update. I've been wondering how it's been going and hoping things were getting better. Aren't Carols' books the best? I, too, loved Return From Heaven.

BTW, have you read the thread Chapter #7 - Facing Abortion ? You may find it interesting in light of your experiences. :)

Hi Chelle,
I think you are absolutely right about having the memory and trying to let it go. Sometimes, when I find out what my son is remembering, there are things I can do to help him deal with it. For example, if he remembers his past life father being dead and rigormortis setting in, I can explain rigormortis to him and he is no longer afraid or not as afraid.
Some memories are not as easy to resolve so then I just pm you guys and you tell me what to do and it usually works.
Vicky
