I tried to do a past-life regression and failed. Need some help.

This is actually my very first post and I would love to hear some insights/advice from you guys who have more experience regarding the whole past-life regression process.

So, I bought a self-hypnosis CD recommended to me by a friend and a book too to help me undergo my regression.
I laid down on my bed, closed my eyes shut the windows and tried to relax as much I can.
I followed the guide instructions of deep breathing and visualizing light around my body.
I started to feel myself sinking deeper into the dark, the feeling was almost like falling down a water well. It was relaxing at first.
Then suddenly, my body started shaking all over, It felt as if thousands of ants were walking over my skin. My heart started beating so fast as if it was trying to get out of my chest. My legs and hands went numb and I couldn't move them. It felt so scary. Then, my body felt like it was lifting itself into the air and sparks of blue lights started dancing before my eyes.
I welled myself to open my eyes, I did and then everything stopped. My legs were shaky I couldn't stand on them. My trembling hands almost foreign like they were not my own.
I know this might sound weird but it felt almost like I was fragmentizing. The feeling was so bizarre and I was scared.
I'm not sure if I should do this again.
Have you guys ever experienced the same ??

Hi SilverNight. Well, barring any physiological problems, I would say that you had a remarkable and very fortunate experience. Although you didn't didn't have any past-life memories come crashing through the darkened veil, it sounds as though you may have at least scratched the surface. It most often requires more than one effort to achieve any effect, and past-life memories are not the only possible result. Some people experience kundalini and out-of-body sensations beyond the stated purpose of the CD. However, most people don't accomplish much more than a very relaxing exercise, if they manage to stay awake. Try again, and try often. And, don't just rely on one CD or video to accomplish your goal.

The first two times I tried a self regression using a cassette tape (CD was not invented yet) nothing happened. But then the next time I saw pictures in my head like a slide show.

Can I ask, have you done any form of meditation / visualisation before, or was this your first time doing anything like this at all?

Hi SilverNight - welcome

It appears to me that your first attempt was a resounding success! Now you just have to learn not to fear it. May I ask what is it that actually scared you? Was it the experience itself, or was you scared that some kind of harm was going to come to you? I don't think anybody has exactly the same experience as anyone else, each person's experience is unique, but I can assure you that you are quite safe. Many people have had experiences like yours, the sparks of blue light, your limbs feeling heavy and 'foreign' in your words, it's different, but the same if that makes sense, and it's an experience that can open doors and change your entire outlook on life. Like Megan said, it sounds like you were beginning to have an OBE. If I were you, I would try again, and try to view it from a more inquisitive angle, go along with the ride, surround yourself with white protective light if you think it will make you feel more comfortable. You've had an amazing and potentially life changing experience, don't run away from that now, but explore it and see where it takes you, and don't forget that we're here if you need help or support, plus we're all interested to hear more! :)

Seconding the OOBE. My husband feels something sort of similar, he tells me, when he drops into a deep meditation, except his is accompanied by a feeling that his chest is collapsing inwards. It always startles him awake. He doesn't like the sensation at all especially since he's on heart meds. He keeps trying to let his mind find some way to not have that happen. He did, one time, feel as though unseen hands were lifting him out of his chair. He was a little confused at first, marveling at the idea of standing behind his own easy chair and watching himself just lay there. He watched TV for a little bit then wondered, quite fearfully, if he had just died. He went back into his body with a jolt!

Congratulations on a good first run at it.

Yes. I have had similar experiences, Silvernight, with the feeling of weightlessness, and some colored lights, rapid staticky sounds, and the feeling of defragmenting would be a good way to describe it. I don't think I have ever had this happen to me during a meditation. They have been spontaneous. when I was little, I had a few that I remember. One time, I felt like the air vents in my room lifted me on the air current and i floated above myself and out of the room, above my sister, and out the door to find my parents and friends who were walking down the sidewalk (we were on a vacation at the beach). I was so amazed that I saw them. When I returned to my body, I ran outside, to the dismay of my sister, and caught up to my parents and friends right where I saw them when I was oob. I was scared another time it happened as a child, and once or twice when it happened as an adult, it does tend to be scary.

However, a past life meditation, as far as I know, doesn't necessarily mean that there will be an oobe with it. It might be that way for you next time, maybe not. I would venture to say you are safe, and to try again, but it is up to you.

Thanks everyone for the support !

Yes, this is was my very first attempt at anything of a spiritual nature. I usually read and research a lot but beyond simple relaxing exercises, I never ventured into anything else.

The feeling was something out of this realm ! I never experienced anything like this before. Even after I did it, I still get this bizarre feeling of floating around, almost like my body isn't aware of gravity yet.

Beside the blue sparkles, I didn't get to see anything else since I stopped half-way.

About being scared, I think what triggered my fear was my body response, I felt like I weighted tons and I had no control or whatsoever over my own body parts. My hands were lifting themselves into the air on their own accord with fingers forming weird shapes.

A sensation of some charged gentle energy, almost like electricity, was running through my entire body, wrapping itself around me like a second skin. I felt it from the top of my head to the base of my spine to the tips to my toes. I wonder what was it ? It felt like my body was wrapped in an electric cocoon or in a gentle snake-like grip.

I also felt cold during the experience and my heart was beating like crazy that my chest hurt in the physical sense and I think I stopped breathing at some point.

SilverNight. Feeling like your chest hurts, your rapid heart beat and that your heart may have stopped, doesn't sound so good, after all.

Again, there's no way of telling if that would happen again, but I retract my 'I venture to say you are safe' and maybe you might want to look into possible physical reasons for the rapid heart beat, etc. before continuing. I would want to make sure you are safe and healthy first. Best wishes for your journey.

Silvernight, you didn't mention your age. As a mature person, I would find what you experienced frightening. I had a regression where I experienced intense pressure in my head, and it felt so awful, I stopped the regression. Even if you are young, a physical check-up wouldn't hurt before you try that again. At least, have someone present in case it goes very wrong. I would err on the side of caution.

Thank you both for your concern.

I'm perfectly healthy, I visited my doc just two months ago and I'm twenty-one, though I always felt older than my age.

I tried again yesterday, I did get the same feeling of that electrified energy minus the shaking and the pain in the chest. It was rather pleasant.

I think what happened was because it was my first experience and I didn't know what to expect, so fear won over.

Good! I'm glad it went better. We want to watch out for each others' well-being and safety here on the forum.

The electric feeling might possibly be you sensing your auric field for the first time, if this is the first time you've done anything spiritual.

It's amazing how much the day to day activity of our lives blocks out. It's only when we finally give ourselves some time to sit in the quiet and shut the outside world out that we get to sense our finer self.

I get a similar feeling when meditating. I also get what feels like spider webs on my face, touches on my face, arms, crown of my head, etc. I also get similar feelings when my guide steps in to work with me.

Does what you've experienced sound similar to what I've described above?

Yes, it was quite similar ! I think it was the feeling of my aura's field for the first time.

Thank you guys for the infos and the help :) I appreciate your guidance and understanding.

I think it depends. I know that when I've tried some recordings I get the "ants" feeling on my arms and stuff, I think that's just the fact that I'm so relaxed and focusing less on my body. On my first tries sometimes that freaked me out a bit and I ended up feeling very anxious. I think we're not that used to be incredibly relaxed and calm anymore. If you were afraid in the back of your mind that something bad could have happened maybe it ended up scaring you that you were letting your guard down, so to speak.

You could try another recording and attempt to make yourself feel as safe as possible. Choose a time of day when you feel very safe, keep protective amulets around if you believe in that stuff, etc. This isn't for anything specific, necessarily, but because the safer you feel the easier it will be to get your brain to relax... then try again if you want.

If you are concerned about it being due to health reasons, check with your doctor. You don't have to mention past lives, you can just say you were meditating.

It could also have been a case of sleep paralysis, which happens between being awake and asleep sometimes and makes you feel nervous but also unable to move. It can happen while you're falling asleep and not just when you're waking up so maybe you were so relaxed you started to fall asleep. Here's a Wikipedia link with some basics about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis.
