Is this a general belief in reincarnation?

That EVERYONE is reincarnated? What led to this belief if everyone does not have memories of a past life? Is there a way to increase and decrease chances of being reincarnated? Like following a certain pattern described in cases like cause of death, etc....Please explain. I think the person's physical, the condition it is in when the person dies can also play a part in deciding. If the person is missing organs, maybe that will decrease the chances? I'm not sure.

You pose an interesting question. I suppose an equally challenging question would be, "If reincarnation exists, why wouldn't it exist for everyone?". Why would the cause of death affect whether one is reincarnated or not? There is a concept among some believers, that reincarnation is meant only for those whose lifetimes were left unfulfilled because of accident, murder, or some kind of disaster which prevented individuals from fulfilling their purpose in life.

However, we draw much of our evidence for reincarnation from more than just reasoning and logic. The anecdotal evidence of those who claim personal memories and experience, for example, is often considered adequate—especially if such memories correspond with each other, and if such memories contain information that could not have been known by any other means. And if such memories involve all manner of deaths, then the theory that only deaths from accident, murder or disaster bring about reincarnation may be weakened.

Another reason that people tend to accept reincarnation for everyone has to do with their instinctive need for justice and equanimity. Or, perhaps, it has to do with the innate wisdom that one life, alone, is not enough to give one's life purpose. For, if there is purpose to anything, it is believed that life must have some purpose, if nothing else.

So what is the evidence that EVERYONE is reincarnated?
None, I suppose. But following that logic, what is the evidence that ANYONE is reincarnated?

As Nightrain wrote, we can only base this 'evidence' on personal anecdotes and our own reasoning. I personally believe that everyone reincarnates and that everybody has some recollection of one or several past lives, although some may not be aware that what they experience relate to reincarnation. This is my own logic. If I am to believe in reincarnation as a natural phenomena then it's for everyone. If I were to make it an exclusive club it would require a line of thinking that is difficult for me.

However, there is a problem, which has been mentioned here many times: The rise in population. How do we explain that if everyone is supposed to be reincarnated? I still haven't come up with a satisfactory answer to that question. Although I am pondering the possibility that whatever it is that reincarnates may not do it as one entity, but is able to split up into several smaller parts that can inhabit several bodies. This could also explain why so many people (including myself) seems to remember simultaneous lifetimes. However, that is only my own humble opinion.

Good questions...

"Is this a general belief in reincarnation? That EVERYONE is reincarnated?"

I believe we all have the choice to reincarnate or not to. Therefore I suppose not everyone will reincarnate, there is no way of telling for sure when you'll live your last life...

"What led to this belief if everyone does not have memories of a past life?"

Not everyone believes, but it is becoming more and more common for people to accept it. Not everyone has memories from past lives, but many, many people do. And those who don't believe, tend to at least become interested in the concept of reincarnation because on some level they have had a experience in their life that they couldn't explain otherwise.

"Is there a way to increase and decrease chances of being reincarnated?"

No, I don't think you can increase or decrease your chances. Again, personal choice. We always have free will in the matter.

There is no tangible evidence for or against reincarnation as far I know. So much is based on cases that seem to show some kind of connections with people who lived before us and many are very convincing. Whether these are cases of reincarnation, telepathy, or some kind of energy transmission is hard to determine for sure. I think to believe in it is a way for some to come to grips with their own mortality.

As far as the rising population mentioned upthread, could it simply be that of all the people that were here from the beginning of time some do not all reincarnate consistently. So at different times we have surges of new incarnates among us and then it dies back for while. Like moving in and moving out but never everyone together at any one time.
