My 4yo Daughter says 'When I was a boy'

Hi,

I'm new to the forum as I only just found this website today. For quite a while now, at least a year, my 4 year daughter has been saying 'When I was a boy...' and telling me things about what she liked, didn't like and did etc. At first I thought it was just her imagination and my husband and I would laugh it off but now its happening at least once a day. I never really know what to say so I usually just acknowledge what she says but never question her. Normally its just a sentence in passing. It seems like whatever we are doing is bringing back a memory for her. She says it very matter of fact and its usually simple small things. I have never written anything down but I will start to now. She also tells my husband, her Dad, that he was a girl.

As far as I am aware these memories don't seem to upset her but she does have nightmares and gets frightened easily. Shes an overly cautious child, who is very bright. Seems to always know and understand things that have never been explained to her. She seems to suffer from a bit of mild anxiety too. Could these past life memories be affecting her more than I think?

I will start to write down what she says. Is there anything else I can do to help her?

Welcome to our group. There are a few other "Aussies" here who you will meet soon. Yes, start keeping a journal and write down everything she says. When you read the old messages and threads in the children's section you will find you are not alone. This is much more common than people think. Have you read either of Carol Bowman's books "Children's Past Lives" and "Return From Heaven"? Also read "Soul Survivor" by Andrea and Bruce Leninger. Carol is the one who advised the Leninger's when little James was having nightmares. Our site also has a suggested book list and a Video Archive section where you can watch reincarnation related videos. It's mostly children between ages 2-7 who remember past lives, but there are many adults here who remember as well. And thanks to the internet it's much easier to research and validate what they are saying. Her nightmares and anxiety are probably due to one or more past life memories. One thing you can do when she is having a nightmare is tell her that happened a long time ago and she is safe now. You can also ask her open ended questions. Bedtime when she is sleepy is a good time as the memories are close to the surface. Also when they are riding in a car puts them in the right mental state for remembering. Keep us posted.

Carol's books will help you a lot. They are well worth the price. Be sure when talking to your daughter to only ask open ended questions. You don't want to put an idea in her mind. Keeping notes is very important as well. You never know.

Thank you both very much. I will look into getting those books. They sound very interesting. I have noticed that she talks quite a lot in the car about these memories. I do wonder if as she is getting older the memories blend more with real experiences.

Today she said, 'Chase the face you don't like. That's what me big sister told me when I was a boy.'

I wasn't sure what to say to that. Bit odd.

Hi twolittleloves

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, this certainly sounds like past life memories to me. It's nothing to worry about. It's perfectly natural and much more common than most people think.

It's not unusual for little kids to have memories when they're in a relaxed state, like safely tucked in the back of the car or just before bedtime as argonne says, or when something reminds them of something.

As to what you can do to help her, don't worry about it. She doesn't need any help. Nothing's wrong. Just love and accept her and be her Mum. You're doing the right thing just going along with it. Just say 'Uh huh. Oh really?' and let her talk about it, same as you would with anyone who wanted to tell you a story about something interesting or fun or upsetting or whatever. I remembered things when I was little and it seemed perfectly normal to me. It only upset me when others reacted with shock or surprise when I would say something they obviously considered odd. But it didn't upset me that much. Don't stress about it.

Some past life memories might be frightening or upsetting. Others are happy and lovely. It's just life. The good and the bad. Nothing to be afraid of.

I wonder if "Chase the face you don't like" is from a movie, song, etc. I don't recognize it but maybe someone here will be able to find it. Has she said anything about dates or location?

No nothing about dates or location. Mainly just talks about what she liked or didn't like and things that she liked to do. I can't remember exact examples as I have a shocking memory and never wrote it down. I always thought she was being a bit of a smarty pants because she always seemed to know everything. Does that make sense? I'm sure it will become clearer if I start to write down what she says. She does seem to understand a lot about different countries/languages. More than I'd expect from a 4 year old.

The other thing I'm keen to learn to learn about is birthmarks as both of my daughters have strawberry marks on their torsos. My 2nd daughters birth mark is quite large and right over her left ******/chest. She also has very particular physical characteristics that must be inherited from quite far back in the family. Auburn hair, dark eye lashes and pale skin. and she also has one brown eye and the other eye has some blue it it. Our family often wonders where she came from. Just curious to find out if this may mean something in relation to a past life.

My 2nd daughter is 21 mths. I always thought it was interesting that they have birthmarks in very similar places. I thought it may of been hereditary but a doctor told me that the strawberry birthmarks aren't.

Welcome! I think in many cases, these past life memories that our children remember are often more stressful for the parents than the child, for whom it is perfectly normal. I'm glad that you let your daughter talk about her past life without dismissing it as her imagination. Sometimes that is all they need is to talk and be listened to. As others have already said before me, we all have past life memories, but they're so much closer to the surface for children while they haven't been 'contaminated' by too many present life experiences.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. If there's anything that you're worried about, or if you have any questions, then don't hesitate to ask. There are a few threads in the forum about birthmarks, which you can find with the search facility.

Reading through your posts, it just crossed my mind that perhaps your daughters' dad was her sister in his past life:

"She also tells my husband, her Dad, that he was a girl."
"Chase the face you don't like. That's what me big sister told me when I was a boy."
If you read Carol's second book, Return From Heaven, you'll see that it's quite common for family members to reincarnate together in different roles. And just an after thought, 'Chase' could be a name.

Yes, birthmarks can be very significant. Sometimes they indicate how a person died, such as arrow, bullet hole, stab wound, or hanging if it's around the neck. When you read the books you will learn more about that. And not just birthmarks, but also skin conditions.

Can you tell us about her nightmares? What does she say? What does she do? Is each nightmare the same, like an endless loop? Nightmares can be a big clue as to what happened. Do you remember about what date the nightmares started? Sometimes the nightmares start on the actual anniversary of the past life event. What are some of the things she is frightened of?

Yes ChrisR I wouldn't be surprised if they were brother and sister in a past life.

I'm finding all this so fascinating. It's always been something at the back of my mind but I've never been able to believe without a little proof. I've just felt like the connection I have between my girls and husband is greater than a lifetime. (If that makes sense).

She's had nightmares since she was little really. I've never been able to let her watch the news or any movies/ TV shows that have scary scenes. I know many kids r like this but she seems to take everything so seriously. I have to explain to her in lots of detail how something works so she won't get frightened of it. She doesn't like loud noises or strong smells. I thought she was just extra sensitive. When she gets frightened she really gets upset. There's a kids music video that we watch but she hates Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme. Hides her face in her hands and cries.

Your daughter sounds a lot like my son at that age. There's a book I'm going to recommend. It's called "Lightworker" by Sahvanna Arienta. There is a short section on sensitive children. I think if I'd read this book when he was little, I could have understood him better, and helped him more. Your bond with your family does sound like it comes from other lifetimes together. You are blessed!

Besides the PL memories, does she have any psychic or intuitive abilities? Does she know what you are thinking or finish your sentences? Does she know things before they happen? Sensitive kids often have these other abilities. Many of the adults here have these abilities as well. Having intuitive abilities and remembering past lives seems to go hand in hand.

She does seem to know things that she has never been told. She also has a connection and interest in relatives like her grand parents who passed away before she was born. She has spoken about seeing her granddad and has said things that seem like messages from him.

I'm not surprised. There is another online forum you should check out. Here is the link. It's for parents of children like your daughter. No one there will think you are crazy. Many of the children there also remember past lives. Look for the "Psykids E-Group" notice. That will take you to the online forum.

This is all fairly normal kid behaviour. I wouldn't be letting a 4 year old watch the news or scarey movies either! Being a bit of a 'fraidy cat' when you're little is nothing unusual or anything to worry about. She'll grow out of it in good time, especially with plenty of cuddles and reassurance that she is safe and loved.

Thats very true!

Here is an interesting article by a researcher that wonders if there is a connection between having allergies and being able to sense things that most people do not.

Today Scarlett said this when we were watching TV and I told her that goats eat anything. She thought for a moment and said,

When I was a boy... Um Where do people live who wear kilts. (I said Scotland.) oh yes Scotland. I lived in Scotland and had a pet goat who tried to eat my clothes.

Very good. I wonder what era she was talking about.

That is an interesting article thanks. I have allergies myself and quite a few people in my family also do. I have had a few moments in my life when I have known something before it happened. Once I was thinking of a friend who was due to have a baby at the exact moment the baby was born and I guessed her name. I didn't even know she was in labour. Other than that I just think of people at the same time they think of me and that sort of thing.

Not sure. We do have family from Scotland on my husbands side and from Ireland on my side of the family. Once she mentioned that her name was Tom and has said that she really likes the name Bert in passing so ill see if there's anyone with those names in the family.

Researchers have also noted the psychic abilities seem to run in families. So it could also be genetic. Maybe the same could be true for remembering past lives. But it's only recently when people in western culture have started talking about past life memories.

Your 4 year old sounds a lot like my Emily! When she felt a scary part was coming up in one of her movies, she would announce she had to go check on her toys and then would slink out of the room.

Here's something that might interest you . . . Both Emily and her younger sister were born with similar raised, red birthmarks behind their ear. I don't have any reason at this point to think the marks are past life related. It just shows they are a matched set!

I think you are doing a great job, mom. Have you ever asked her why she wanted to be a girl this time?

Thanks Blueheart. I really enjoyed reading about your Emily. She sounds like a fascinating child. That sure is amazing to hear about the birthmarks that your girls have too. Yes my Scarlett disappears or hides her face during scary parts.
