Thank you all for the opportunity to join this forum and share my experiences of past life memories. I love reading about others people's stories. It was probably after I read the books of the late Dr. Ian Stevenson on children's past life memories that I began to appreciate my own memories, dreams, feelings, etc and take them more seriously. It makes perfect sense to me that we are spiritual beings having earthly "lives".

Welcome to the forum Gerania :)

I have been reading with interest your past life memories of England, thanks for sharing. I hope you enjoy your time here :)

Welcome to the forum, Gerania. I am looking forward to hearing more from you:). I know you will feel right at home here, its a great place to share your experiences.

Chris, admit it, you only picked to be born into England in your current life because such a cool place like Scotland was fully booked! :cool

Greetings from Scotland!

Hello,

I'm Kenny, I'm 44 years old, in charge of the ticket office at a large train station in Glasgow, Scotland. I study psychology part time and I'm also working towards my soccer coaching qualifications.

One of the moderators of this site(hello Kris!) pointed me in this direction. I'll try and keep this brief as I dare say many paths lead here and the details are pretty similar, except I've never had a past life memory(just one very vivid instance of precognition, more on which maybe later!).

After reading Iain Stevensons "20 cases suggestive of reincarnation" I was a bit disturbed, so the next book I bought was "The self and it's brain" by Karl Popper and Sir John Eccles; I decided after reading the former that perhaps the latter could shed some light on the conscious and the processes involved. It didn't, but it was a fascinating book and pushed me on. I've developed a two pronged approach to my own research; I read on the brain, consciousness and memory, and I read research by Doctors and health professionals on reincarnation, the continuation of consciousness after death, NDE's and the psychology of death and grief. I met Kris at several tutorials of our most recent psychology course.

I refuse to believe in a spirit, though it may be interpreted as that by many; I believe that our consciousness has evolved to survive death and that many many things are possible when we free our minds, I have a few examples of these but I'm trying to be brief here! :D

I reflected on the nature of Stevensons work regarding birthmarks and birth defects and thought there may be some merit following that line of thought, mainly that after every major conflict there would be a spike in the number of children born with birth defects. In my own very limited way and without looking too hard I found the following historically verified statistics;

1. A rise in post war Germany of incidences of children born with their spines separated at birth this lasted for 5 years after the war, I think the medical term they were lumped under was spina bifida but I won't swear to that.

2.The rise in birth defects in children in Vietnam after that war, most of the defects being attributed to agent orange.

3. The recent spate of birth defects in Fallujah, Iraq, blamed on American munitions.

If I can discover these trends with a few hours of pottering about on a pc, I imagine I will identify thousands more as a full time psychologist which, like my new friend Kris I intend to do.

That was the brief version, I hope you're all grateful I spared you the long introduction!

TTFN!

Hi Kenikeli! And, welcome to the Forum. I can appreciate the fact that your interest in Reincarnation was initially inspired by Dr. Ian Stevenson's book, 20 Cases; because that was also my own entry point into this field. It is very hard to ignore such anecdotal evidence, isn't it?

Welcome, Kenny. Yes, I'm well aware of the tragically high rate of birth defects in Fallujah (not to mention children of returning Gulf War Veterans), which has been linked to the use of Depleted Uranium in munitions ... which is basically radioactive waste. I've often thought about the synchronicity of high levels of birth defects and war (where obviously many die of horrible wounds). But it would certainly help, no doubt, to completely outlaw the use of horribly toxic materials ...

Hello, Kenny! :D Glad to see you on the site. You will feel right at home here. :) Its great hearing other peoples opinions and discussing anything that's on your mind about reincarnation. I'm looking forward to seeing your future posts!

Why do you refuse to believe in spirit? Is there a difference between spirit and soul in your mind? And what is consciousness other than spirit? Is there another meaning for spirit which makes it something other than the consciousness which enlivens each of us? Did the consciousness of some individuals fail to survive death prior to their evolution?

I guess I would just like to understand your position, although your comments on birth defects coming after wars is very interesting.

In answer to Uestawuz, I think it's more of a misunderstanding of the peoples of primitive times and an inability to describe what resides within us, other than to ascribe some supernatural aspect to it. Psychology means "knowledge of the soul", merely because even as a science our inner selves are too hard to define. In future years, "consciousness" might be dismissed just as easily as a mere superstition or fallacy, but I'm coming at this whole past life phenomenon from as scientific a viewpoint as possible, and having "faith" in the existence of something based on a few badly translated books just doesn't do the wonders of whats going on in our heads any justice.

Spirit, soul, conscious, they're all labels for the same thing, in all likelihood, maybe what I should have said is that I don't accept the views of religious people that we've a soul or that we'll be judged in the hereafter. My greatest wish, to be brutally honest, is to never have to return to a life of pain, fear, illness and the hurt that the death of loved ones causes by being alive. If I could find a way that could explain all this scientifically I'd gladly publish any findings I made, to the extent that I've read (but don't worry! I didn't even understand 10% of it!) a bit about quantum physics, however, all I could take from that was that matter cannot be destroyed and that particles can spring from nothing and that it happens all over the universe and is observable.

That's enough for now, I hope I addressed some of your concerns, but it's late here, and I'm going canoeing in the morning, so good night, and peace to you all. :P

KK

Hi Kenny...no concerns, just an exchange of information. Like you, I do not get any sense of a religious "soul" subject to judgment for eternity. I also suspect you may have difficulty making this track through any standard scientific framework. Science relies on proven physical laws for its foundation and consciousness is not physical...and from my viewpoint, consciousness created all the physical we can conceive.

I am interested in your previous comment regarding consciousness evolving to survive death and look forward to your thoughts on this.

I hope your canoeing went well...I really should break mine out and throw the kids in, but 94 degrees and 90 percent humidity makes for a hot afternoon.

I like that comment about consciousness creating all we conceive, that pairs up with quantum physics and the collapsing wave forms, that is, nothing truly exists until we observe it; in that respect I do think there is a tentative scientific basis for all that goes on in respect of past life memories.

As for the evolutionary aspect, I suppose I was influenced a lot by Richard Dawkins, one of the many authors who have pointed/nudged me in this direction. I read his stuff on genetics, (the selfish gene) and how we exist simply to propagate genes. There didn't seem to be much point of repeating the cycle when the proper evolutionary path would be to avoid oblivion all together(this is my thinking, but only after considering Stevensons work in relation to what I knew about genetics). If true, it's an absolute belter of a survival mechanism but it leaves us with the question, why be reborn if we've already survived death once?

This is why I think the answer may be along the lines of the continuation of consciousness or the universal consciousness which Jung borrowed from Eastern philosophy. After all, is it possible to have a memory and not be conscious?

The canoes were fun, btw, a civilised 70 something, the girls went out in kayaks and the missus and I were in one of my two seater canadians.

ciao for niao!

hi everyone

I figured that since I've started a couple of threads, I might as well introduce myself. I go by laughables online, and I'm a female in my late 20s, currently living in Boston, MA. I have been a lurker on this forum for years, but have only recently decided to join in on the posting.

Currently, I don't have solid past life memories. I just have feelings. When I was little, I used to have a recurring dream about living in a small house, sometime in the 1800s. In the dream, my family and I were hiding because our house was under attack, although I don't know by who. I was hiding under the table, and my dream ends when someone lifts the tablecloth and discovers me. I don't know if this is just a dream or if it's a memory.

There are some other feelings I have - I have always been interested in history, particularly the American Civil War, and I feel that if I was there during that time, I was probably in the South, as I feel most drawn to that side. The other day, in fact, I was on a field-trip with my kids (I'm working at a summer day camp right now) touring George's Island here in Boston, which used to be a prison for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Our tour guide, in his introductory speech, said something about the North being the "good guys" and the South being the "bad guys" and I suddenly felt so angry and defensive, like I wanted to jump up and shout,
that's not how it was, you have it all wrong. I've no idea where these feelings or the urge came from, but it felt too strong to ignore.

I have other inklings and I've been drawn to certain places for no real explanation except for a sense of familiarity. But as I said, I have no solid memories. I've always been interested in reincarnation and more and more I really wanted to figure out who I might have been. I'm looking forward to starting my journey and sharing with all of you.
:)

Welcome Laughables, and thanks for sharing your experiences.

It's not uncommon for people like yourself to have an unexplained 'fascination' with certain time periods throughout history. When I was a child, I was fascinated by late 18th century naval warfare, and I would soak up any book I could lay my hands on, an unusual topic for a 7 year old one would think? Then my ex was always fascinated by the period around King Henry VIII's reign which she couldn't explain. I think most people just accept it without questioning where these interests come from. I'm not saying that it's proof of reincarnation, but years after studying 18th century naval warfare, during a regression, I saw a past life as a sailor in Nelson's navy in the early 1800's.

Have you considered a regression, either by yourself, or with a trained therapist? There's many ways you can go about doing this, it doesn't work for everyone, but as you have already had a few dreams and spontaneous 'visions', I think you would stand a good chance of success. Oh, and in case you haven't already, do start a journal and write everything down, you'll be so glad that you did later on. ;)

Welcome laughables,

Thank you for sharing. I have been away for a few days, but will try to catch up with your posts soon. I enjoyed reading this one and am glad you decided to join in.

I remember the Civil War....in the South. BBL.

Hi Laughables

Glad you jumped in.

I in the otherhand want much of nothing to do with war time any thing. I don't know if I suffered during a war or what. Movies, stories etc just don't hold my interest. I even feel myself cringe my nose as in "nah" when I see a movie coming out with war of any time period. When I end up watching them, I end up ok with it. But not a movie I would pick.

Do you feel pangs when you see movies of war of certain time periods? Do you dream of any war time periods?

Hi laughables and welcome! :)

Your post made me smile because that's how I've felt too at times. In this lifetime I was born in new england and have lived in the north all my life. Once I went on a tour of a civil war battlefield and encountered the same "north was good, south was bad" attitude from the guide that made me very irritated and upset (not that I condone what the south stood for of course). Since that time, I discovered a past life as a young confederate soldier from Mississippi who was killed at Gettysburg.

Good luck on your journey discovering your past lives and please share, if you feel you want to. I'd love to hear what you discover.

Hello everyone

Hi guys, I just stumbled upon this site today and after looking around for a good bit, decided to register.

I'm a 16 year old (however I've always felt like a bit of an old soul) living in Canada, and the topic past lives is really interesting to me and I'm really wanting to find out if there's anything from my own past lives I can remember.

I've never had a solid memory or 'flashback' per se but I have always been fascinated with certain things, such as the voyage of the Titanic and that era. Although some may pass this off as just something I'm very interested in, I now feel it may go further than that, because it's been to the point where I'm obsessive over it and I can personally call myself a walking encyclopedia.

Perhaps I'm just jumping the gun and perhaps I never was a passenger or such on the Titanic. If not, I'd of course like to find out about my other past life/lives. However, I don't know where to start, so if any of you could provide some tips, I'd be grateful!

Once again, hello, can't wait to get acquainted with you all!

Hi Annelw! And, welcome to the Forum!

Your interest in the Titanic may certainly have some significance to you that deserves further investigation on your part.

You may find that quite a number of us have never had a solid memory of a past life, while others have had very remarkable and veridical memories. The results are varied, but once thing is certain -- that you, like most of us, have some inkling that Reincarnation may be very real and that there is significant evidence available to support our suspicions. Everyone has different ways of pursuing this subject, and I hope you will explore the many resources and posts on this website which have covered these methods quite well for many of us.

Hello everyone.

I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself. I just posted a few minutes ago about my son...in the children's questions section...sorry I don't remember the name of the discussion area.

I am 55 years old and have had some curiosity regarding past life and regression and reincarnation since I was in about 6th grade. We read a book called "The Search for Bridey Murphy" and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I have not been able to find this book anywhere, since I have been an adult, and I would love to read it again.

I don' t know where my past was, or anything about it...or if I even have one...

I do have some general questions regarding this topic, perhaps a bit to logical and analytical for this venue, but if someone could guide me to a general question area, that would be great. In the meantime, I will keep looking for an appropriate place to ask them...

Hoping for lots of good information.

Just joined today and thought it was a good idea to jump right in...

Thanks for being here.

Welcome dadztired.

The forum has been here for 14 years. We have a great thread titled recommended sites for research.

We steer people away from the New Age Crap that permeates the web. ;)

I hope that helps. And please, feel free to ask away..and analyze, anything. Nothing like a good conversation. :)

Hi again, Dadz! In answer to your question, this is as good and general an area to begin asking questions or even stating opinions. If you have a story or question relating specifically to your son or another child's recollections, you can post it in the "Childrens Past Lives" section. If you have questions that are specific to Reincarnation, there is the "Reincarnation Questions" area. If you have recollections of your own, you can post in the "Past Life Memories" section. If you have a question or observation that is ancillary to Reincarnation or in addition to Reincarnation, you can post in the "Community Reflections" section. One of my favorite areas is the "Reincarnation Evidence and Theory" section where we discuss how the whole thing works.

Don't worry about posting in the wrong place, because the moderators can move your post to the most appropriate section. We issue three "Get out of jail - FREE" cards until you get the hang of it (just kidding). Dividing these subject headings is merely a means of making it easier for you to find subjects or discussions of interest.

Regarding your interest in reading material, may I suggest an extremely interesting book, "Soul Survivor" by the Leiningers. There has been a very large amount of good reading material on the subject of Reincarnation since the Bridey Murphy book, which is probably out of print by now. My own interest in Reincarnation was strongly encouraged by reading a book by the late Dr. Stevenson, entitled, "20 Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation". You can probably find it at your local library. From there we can recommend a number of very compelling books to follow up.

Hi annelw, welcome to the forum :)

We all have past life memories hidden away in our subconscious, and there are a number of methods that we can employ in order to access those memories. Some people find it more difficult than others, but we all have the ability within us to remember. You might want to begin finding out about your past lives by browsing through the Frequently Asked Questions section of the forum.

As for your fascination with the Titanic, well it's always a good indication of a possible past life when a certain subject or time period in history captures your imagination. However, it's my personal opinion that there is a minimal (although not impossible) chance that you were aboard the Titanic when she sank. Over the centuries, there have been thousands of lives lost at sea in a similar fashion, but the sinking of the Titanic is the most documented and famous case of all, so it's only natural for a person who remembers such a fate to immediately think of the Titanic. It's quite possible that your interest in her is triggering memories of an experience that could have happened on countless other ships, and it's a good idea to keep this in mind if you decide to investigate your past lives.

If there is anything we can help you with, then don't hesitate to ask questions, and we'll do our best to answer them for you.

Chris :)

Hello

Hello,

My name is Marissa,

I don't quite know how to explain myself, really i feel like i don't belong here. I used to think there was something wrong with me, honestly i was beginning to think i was mentally ill,

I feel like i am a puzzle, but all my pieces are missing. I feel like i belong somewhere, and with someone but i don't know where and i'm desperate to find them.

I don't know who i can talk to about this with sounding insane. I've never had that feeling of belonging with my family, i love them, but i don't feel like i'm meant to be here, with them.

This might sound crazy, but i've never had that love feeling with someone. I'm only 19 yes, but most girls have crushes and all that, but not once really. I tried to force myself to love someone once, but i only hurt them.

I had a day dream once years ago it's probably not relevant but all i remember a fire, burning i could hear someone telling me the house was on fire and then nothing, i think i died. i don't know if thats even possible, i just, i would really like to feel like i'm not alone.

Is this normal? or at least make sense to anyone?

i would really appreciate some help or just some sense f understanding

Hi Marissa! Welcome to the Forum!

Although it has been quite a number of years since I was 19, I can still remember feeling the same way as you described. However I still can't figure out why I felt that way, or whether other people did as well. Certainly on thinking back with what I know now, there might have been a lingering sense of displacement from my past life. Then again, it may simply be a hormonal thing that happens to all, or most, of us as we prepare to leave the nest and strike out on our own with no sense of what the future might hold for us.

The house fire memory may be a very good clue to start with, if you have carried this with you for a long time, but it might not help to explain why you presently feel so distant. What I mean to say is, that we all came from someplace else, and the method in which we died may have no bearing on why we feel displaced as much as the fact that we may simply long for where we came from.

I hope you will stay with us a while and learn as much as you can about Reincarnation, because there are so many interesting stories and facets to the subject. You will certainly gain a great deal of insight about yourself, and may find some reassuring answers along the way -- not only regarding the questions you have just asked, but having to do with questions not yet considered.

Hi Marissa and a warm welcome!

Nightrain already gave you wonderful words of support and I can only agree with him.

Nobody here will think you are insane. As Nightrain says everyone has felt how you feel to different degrees. Look through the threads and you will see you are not alone in feeling distanced and displaced.

Also read through the FAQ - it's a great place to start.

I too hope you will find some comfort here and learn things about yourself that might help you improve your current life.

Hello Marissa, welcome to the forum! :D

I don't think there is too much I can say that Nightrain and Sunniva haven't. I, too, felt the same way you did when I was about 19. I am 21 just now and I feel fine. The negative feelings will pass, just give them time.

To me, this forum, and studying reincarnation in general makes me feel really happy. I hope that it will do the same for you. We have a great bunch of people on this forum that will be delighted to help you with anything you wish to know!

Thank you,

i am so grateful for finding this place, and i hope i will be able to find more information here.

I will definitely be staying and learning.

Thank you so much again.

My feelings of misplacement i wouldn't say are negative, i just i always have that feeling i need to be somewhere. Drawn to certain places, i don't know how else to explain it. It's like deja vu you see a place on TV or in a magazine and it's so familiar.

I always took my feelings as good things, that they're leading me in the right direction.

Should i ignore them?

i mean do i live this life or try and find my past one it's all so confusing to me.
