Nigerian couple have a white, blue-eyed, blond baby?

Now, here's a story that will baffle paranormal and reincarnation experts as well as genetics experts:

"LONDON: A black couple has amazed genetics experts, as their newly born baby is a white, blue-eyed blonde. Doctors at the Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup told the parents that Nmachi Ihegboro is definitely not an albino. However, the child has baffled the genetics experts because neither Ben nor wife Angela has any mixed-race family history."

If we on this Forum are willing to accept such things as karma, synchronicity, and switching race or gender; I wonder what everyone feels might be a plausible explanation for this very unusual case.

As someone into genetics/anthropology I would guess the baby picked up some latent white genes from the father who looks admixed to me at immediate glance [nose bridge, lighter areas of skin colour at the cheeks and his jaw] - the baby still seems to have some african feats. despite pigmentation.Sun newspaper states "Ben's mother Amebo, 70, is unusual in having blue eyes."

A simple autosomal/dna test for either parent will show white admixture, and even for the child would show the degree of white admixture if they want to rule out a pigment coding error.

Coming from a mixed race family it was'nt unusual to see one daughter white, one more african etc ,in my own family noone realises my sister and I are siblings, she having inherited the african traits .

Whole story reminds me of my g.grandfather [englishman] who had an extra african[tribal] wife whom had a child who was abt as black as the man in this story, this child married an african women.Their child came out entirely english looking and the most caucasian of all my father's relatives,my dad always says how odd it was.

I guess the euro genes weren't expressed in the first few editions and came out in the later. It will be interesting to see studies on this.

Despite all this info it is still highly highly strange and unusual for the alleles to combine in this way, near impossible.I've also never seen newborn with that level of blonde hair.

Apparently it is quite common among the igbo people [they are of igbo descent] for this to occur - i'm sure they have mythological and other spiritual reasons for it.

Think they call them ANYANRI.

Remarkable, Katrien! Thank you!

They could have ancestry they don't know about. A lot of people don't really know where their family came from past grandparents and great grandparents, and sometimes DNA can travel a long distance.

I suppose it's always possible it could be reincarnation related, because if reincarnation is natural, all sorts of things happen in nature that normally don't. I just tend to think once we leave a body, we leave it forever.

It is very true in the world of genetics, that there may well exist a mixed ancestral heritage in both parents, which may not be apparent. I understand anyone's hesitation to discuss matters involving race; but this is strictly an academic and philosophical question, which need not involve any subjective bias. Is anyone "game" to take this on?

I am off for the rest of the week Whew!! And was looking at the site.

This is very interesting. I also think that there was a mixture in generations back and the traits just came out now. I wonder how his children will fair?

My sisters tell me I look white or of middle eastern descent. I have been asked before what race i was. I always thought they were pulling my leg. I am hispanic. My son is mixed white/hispanic. And looks all white. But any one of the traits could show up with my g-children or gg-children. And ofcourse it depends on who he marries too.

I wonder if that couple feel shunned

I hit the submit reply button by accident.

Like I mentioned I wonder if the couple feels shunned by their family. Or if she was unjustily accused. You know what I mean. I was given looks and comments while married to my baby's daddy.

Just my 3 cents worth here.

Lol, adorable couple and adorable baby. They look like proud but surprised parents. They probably will get some teasing from the people who know them and looks from people who don't, but I don't think it should affect her too much. The baby seems to have african features but just lighter coloring. Sometimes the color of hair a baby is born with changes after 3 months along with eye color, so she may look different in a few months. My little red haired guy was born with jet black hair and lots of it and his eye color no one could figure out until around four months when they changed to dark brown.

Does anyone know if this kind of case has happened before? I know that it happens in recent generations. But this couple had no idea of any different races in their family. Even though the guy did say his mom was light skinned. And the important part is, they look very happy. I am curious to know if it occurs occasionally.

Wednesday – I bet your little red haired guy is awesomely cute.

My kiddo had blonde hair and blue eyes. Now yrs later he has light brown hair and green/blue eyes.

I was watching the world news and I saw something that kind of bothered me. They showed how all these DNA testing sites are not accurate. Does that mean that we can not count on getting a DNA test done? I do not mean for checking if child is yours or not. I mean to check where we came from 100’s of yrs ago. What about all the people that have done DNA testing to see where their lineage came from.

Anybody see the news on this?

Ok sorry for so many questions…:butbut:

About thirty years ago I saw a New Zealand Maori boy who was fair skinned and blond hair but his features were very strongly Moari. He didn't look like an albino. I didn't see his parents so I have know idea what colour their skin was. There has been quite a bit of intermingling of Maori and Europeans in New Zealand.

Dna tests are'nt perfect yet but they are pretty close to it,I've had most of those available including the very high end tests and the results have always been similar which indicates some validity.

All they really do is look at coding errors/spelling mistakes on your genome

called STRS or SNPS in large blocks ... so a large block of letters, and compare them with other people to see who has matching blocks.

e.g a polish person with an imaginary block that goes xxyyyyxxxyyylopikkkkkcccxvmhkgklop so anyone with that usually very very long indentical code would share ancestry/mutations with them.

The only sites I would recommend for dna testing are 23andme and decodeme.

In one of Carol's books, there was a very interesting case of a woman, who lost her son. The ex-husband was quite fair with blond hair and blue eyes, as was the son, who passed on. When the woman was married again, this time to a dark complected and dark haired husband, it was believed that her son returned to her; not just because her new baby was light and blond and looked like her first son, but because of things he said.

In many cases reported by researchers, the reincarnated person closely resembled the person in their previous life. Does anyone feel that the child of the Nigerian couple could have resembled someone, who looked like her in a previous life, and chose these parents for a reason?

All I could think of is that if they had a white ancestor (maybe her in a previous life) that she came back to let them know, in a big way, lol.

I still think it could just be one of those odd things that just happens.

I agree with wednesday, its likely to be just one of life's odd occurrences.

Having said that, have DNA tests been done? It wouldn't be the first time that a hospital has gotten it wrong.

I thought the same thing at one point, but dug deeper to find that all the necessary tests were taken as a result of the birth, and she is definitely their child.

Gosh, well, this is an enigma then. However, at the end of the day I don't suppose for one second that her Mom and Daddy care what color she is; she will be special to them because she is their child, not because of her hue...

Not quite the same, I know, but I have a cousin who was very blond as a very young child, and even up into her early teens she was quite fair haired, but she now has almost black hair, just like her parents. These anomalies happen I guess. Personally, I think that if there were to be any problems for her socially, that they will arise from outside of the family, as she goes thro life.

A bit off topic, but in your OP you mention Transgender, of which I have heard of many cases. I truly believe these folk when they say that they were born into the wrong body. But, switching race? I have never heard of this before, except by definition of law. ie: immigration.

I found a reincarnation story accidently from the xhosa tribe yesterday about a girl who was a huge tomboy, desperately wanted to be a man and acted/talked like one,was horrified when her breasts grew etc.

At age 14 she got very sick and spent most of her time in hospitals. But noone knew what was wrong with her. Her family decided to take her to a traditional healer/shaman (sangoma) instead.According to the sangoma the sickness was a warning that her ancestors wanted her to be a sangoma.[This is usually how it works - illness or dreams]

When her parents went again they were told that the ancestor was her g.grandfather.They were surprised since most often a calling comes to a male from a male Ancestor and to a female from a female Ancestor.

The belief is generally that you continue that Ancestors life so her parents and the community then accepted and respected her desire to represent herself as a male from then on.

Possibly if the nigerian couple find a white ancestor the community might consider the child it's reincarnation.

Here also is Maya the 100% biological daughter of african american Victoria Rowell [her father is white],pictured here with her mom.

to me she looks whiter than your average white person? I have one mixed race cousin who also looks 'ultra white' - it's very odd.Maybe the combination amplifys some traits.god knows.
