NYPD Detective's daughter

I was working on the film "Salt" and an NYPD detective was our advisor. I was talking to some actors about my book "Flipside" which talks about past life events, and between life research. And the cop pulled me into a room and locked the door. "I think my house is possessed." I asked why.

He said "My daughter says she sees a ghost, and now she claims she died in Australia!" I asked if he'd ever been to Australia - he said "Never outside of NY." Ok, I said, first let's acknowledge you're talking to a guy on a movie set. Second, tell me about the ghost. Who is it?

He said "She claimed he dressed "just like you daddy." Like a cop." He thought about who it might be and pulled out a picture of his deceased partner. "that's him daddy, only he's younger now." The partner died two years before she was born. I explained that people can appear as they want to between lives - younger, in better shape - and then I said "Did you like this guy?" He said "I loved him." I said, "so it's not such a bad thing to have him keeping an eye on you. Obviously you're still connected." He agreed.

"So what about Australia?" I said "When kids are making up stories, the details are all over the place. But when they remember stuff they stay pretty consistent. I suggest take out of map of Australia and see what she says."

He came in the next day - same deal, took me into a room and locked the door. "You're not gonna believe this. I took out a map of Australia and she pointed to Perth and described her life there as a farmer and how her entire family had died in a drought. And then she burst into tears." I pointed out to the Detective that it was important for her to pass along that information without anyone telling her she was crazy or that it didn't happen.

The question is - we choose our lifetimes - why did the previous lifetime come into your child's awareness, because they chose that life and they chose this life, what do the two have in common?

I suggest to my friends with kids under 8 to ask their children in an offhanded way the following question when the time is right - "did you choose mommy and daddy or did we choose you?" The answers the kids give are usually very interesting.

My two cents.: angel

Love the question. Perhaps it is time for the change of consciousness for mankind. Perhaps .....our children will show us.

I don't think however, that everyone chooses. Some are drawn to a life, like a magnet. Attracted to a certain energy, or by way of thoughts, feelings and emotions. I believe the Tibetan's have even suggested so.

Interesting theory/opinion, Deborah. IMO I believe we do plan every life we live as much as we can. I agree that we may be drawn to some lives due to what you've said, but I think that it is still a choice. It makes sense to me that we, the souls, have the last word in picking our incarnations. I believe our guides will give us advice to help us pick the right one for us.

I did ask the question to my 5 y/o boy while he was watching TV late one night (thanks Rich)... "did you choose mommy?" He replied " yes ". I then asked him "why did you choose me?" He replied "because you only had one" (he is my 2nd child and I did want the 2nd one very very badly) . I then asked " how did you get here" ? He said "I came in through your ear" ...

Now why in the world would he say "ear" out of all places on the human body that a 5 year old can choose from ? He learned that the heart pumps blood from TV , he knows that we eat with our mouths... I normally pull his ear if he's mis-behaving...

I could be just over analyzing this but I did find his answers a little peculiar.

I agree with you, Deborah. I'm not sure why, but somehow the idea doesn't feel right to me. I liked the quote you posted on another thread that suggested that only the more advanced souls choose their parents.

As the Eyes are supposed to be the gateway to the Soul (a popular belief) perhaps the Ears are also, in fact, any of the five senses may communicate with the Soul, as in perhaps the sense of Taste (tongue in cheek), I know my Chicken, Yellow Rice and Black Beans sends me to Heaven, so to speak. [bIG GRIN] LOL :)

Being re-born through the ear sure beats having a stork drop the baby in the pumpkin patch, years ago, being the young Son of a Nurse, one day I found my Mother's nursing books and boy, did I get educated real quick. LOL :)

Well, that's kind of what the research shows. Everyone chooses. People can refuse to be incarnate again - so that's the power of free will. By being able to say "no thanks, not interested" we have control over any concept of karma. I'm in accord with tibetan philsophy in general, and I consider their view of the nature of reality to be peerless. But when it comes to the afterlife, as I'm fond of saying (and have had some lively discussions with) the tenets expressed in "the Tibetan book of the dead" were written by one writer. Thousands have commented on his work, but only one monk writing his experience. And we have in the work of Michael Newton (and Carol Bowman) thousands of cases (and now thousands more because of all the therapists doing the same method) that concur - we choose our lifetimes. I've filmed 25 folks so far under deep hypnosis, and as of late have been gathering similar accounts in NDE's. I've seen reports of people saying they were "offered four or five different lifetimes" and they picked one. But I've also heard reports of people saying "I said I didn't want to do that," and others were offered. We have free will in this process - at least that's what the research shows. My two cents.

This is fascinating. I find it is only after I have gone through something negative that I realize what I gained from it. In the middle of the experience, there is always this deep sense of betrayal. However, the fact that there is a benefit is so very clear now that I can understand why I would have chosen this life, even with the "unendurable" events I was exposed to. (only of course I did endure, and came out much wiser)

There have been kids who say that they were "pushed" out of heaven, or told that they needed to go back or that it was time to go back. So I can definitely believe that not every incarnation is a carefully made choice. It sounds like some of the time, it's kind of like a panicked jump after a bit of vague consideration.

Hi richmartini,

My opinion is that we might have a choice, between several options. Probably in the end we need to go through them all. Like there are several tasks to be done, and you get to choose which one you start with, but, they all need to be done.

Choosing your parents

My daughter, when she was around 3,said that she and Baby Sarah used to peek down at me and my husband from heaven. She said they would giggle and that they had chosen us. When she was 5. I miscarried early in the pregnancy. Baby Sarah was never mentioned again (side note she always referred to her as Baby Sarah, never Sarah) 3 years later we adopted a son.
