OK I'll try

Hello everyone,

I'll post here and give it a try. I've looked around quite a bit and haven't been able to find much. For years I've had memories of a past death and as I get older it is getting stronger.

Vividly I remember crawling through veryyy thin tunnels carved through stone/rock. These tunnels twisted and turned and I did this frequently. It was quite exhausting but I had to do this to get to places that were rooms. One time I got stuck in a spot where I had to go from lying on my back squeezed in to an almost 90 degree upward. I was trapped. Every time I think of this even as I sit here typing I get an anxiety feeling that almost overwhelms me.

I've never seen anything like this and I've had this memory for quite a few years. The only thing I found with something similar to this was the Erdstall tunnels in Europe but even those weren't as narrow and small. Now it's even reached the point where it is very detailed and I've had a few dreams about it.

I'm not sure what this may be and like I said I have looked around a lot and cannot find much.

If anyone has any insight into this I'd welcome any attempt to help me. I was born in 1970 and as I get older these memories get more vivid.

Thanks for reading my post.

You may have been spelunking? I know those who love caves think it's very worth it to get themselves scraped up in small spaces just so they can see the caverns that nobody else has seen. I'm sure more than one person has taken it too far in all the history of exploring caves.

Were you really dirty? They used to use little boys in coal mines because they were so small. They probably used them in other tunnels/mining as well ..

Hi Sarge

Welcome to the forum. In my opinion, being able to google things and find verifications of what you remember is all very interesting, but it is rather missing the point.

There are various ways to retrieve more memories and find out more information about what this is all about described in the FAQ section. Once you have explored that, you may find it easier to check for verifications, but get the information first is my advice. That way you don't think you might be kidding yourself later on. argonne's advice above is a very useful place to start.

It is not unusual for people to have memories of a past life incident when it mirrors something going on in the present life. Are you feeling 'trapped' or 'stuck' or otherwise anxious about your present life? You don't have to tell us about it all in any sort of detail, but you may find this something interesting to contemplate. Does the 'fear' feel the same? Are you connecting the fear from the previous experience to the present one?

This sort of thing is often very useful in working out present day worries and concerns.

Having said all that, what about the Viet Nam war? Tunnels were used extensively by the Viet Cong and were very tiny with 'rooms' in between....

I don't honestly recall any clothing aspect. Just it was very tight like earthworm in a hole tight and dirty/sweaty. A lot of twisting and bending/turning. I know it sounds weird but I could draw pictures of the pattern if I had to. The biggest part I recall was the exhaustion of it. Like breathless even before the trapped portion. I appreciate the input from people. This is weighing heavily on me and has for quite some time. I'd just like to know if that makes sense. It's kind of ironic to me now especially being a Buddhist and a large person. Makes me wonder about the large size and if it's related to my karma.

We probably never get true answers to our questions, but it helps to know that others have been down this path. Thanks again for any ideas.

Hi Tan,

Thanks for the thought. I see what you're asking and that's not really an issue. My life is honestly awesome. I have a wife who is my soul mate and three awesome kids. It's not anything like that relating or even work related. This has been there for a long time and appears to be getting stronger as I get older. The reason I started looking around online again today is last night I had another very vivid dream about it. I woke up with tears in my eyes and I'm the type of guy that doesn't well up easy. I'm just trying to make some sense of this monkey on my back. Glad I stumbled across this board. This is the most input I have found to date.

Tears are a good sign (believe it or not). You seem to know your way around meditation and such. Try doing a meditation on the emotions behind all this. That is often a way in (and a way out, once you work out what's going on).

Lie down, close your eyes, place your hands on your heart and go into the feeling, then ask yourself why are you sad? What is this about? What happened? Just go with the first thing that comes. People often have good results with this technique.

Have a look at this thread about it:

The Miracle of Life...

This is a bit off the track, but when I read your post, I was immediately taken back to nightmares that I had as a child and young teenager.

I was trapped in a small tunnel, so small that it inclosed my body. It was very hot and I was sweating and I was exhausted. There was something forcing me forwards...always forwards and one time I got stuck and couldn't move...but I struggled and bent this way and that and turned myself at almost a 90 degree angle and the moving forwards went on...I was very frightened! Finally at the end of this tunnel was a room...very bright...and the dream ends. This was a reacquiring dream. I knew when it started that it would always end in this room...but the older I got and the bigger I grew, the harder it was for me, in my dream, to move through this tunnel. I also saw this tunnel as being as hard as stone...dark and threatening!

I never spoke to my parents about it but I was very lucky to have a wise grandmother who I trusted with my heart, and when it became too much for me, I told her of my dream as a young teenager and she simply said... “Oh sweetie...you are just remembering your birth, it was a long and difficult one, but you made it!!”

The dream ended immediately!

Welcome to our forum!

As I read your post, Sarge, I thought the same thing as Aelfgyva. It could be a birth memory. It could also involve mining operations. Welcome to the forum. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Given that your user name is sarge, but could it have possibly been a memory of tunnels in Vietnam?

Hello Sarge, welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you are on the path of discovery. I have several thoughts to share with you.

First, there have been several good suggestions rendered already. In my younger days I was a cave explorer, "spelunker." Someone mentioned this above, and it is certainly a possibility. There were several occasions that I got into places that caused me great discomfort. And the reason I mention this is that my LAST trip, many years ago, was serious. I was with a group from a major university. We were in a series of caves in southern Indiana. We knew it would be tricky going into it due to several tight spots. At one point 30 yards in the tight spot made a 90 degree bend straight down four or five feet and then angled 45 degrees down. I got in this "chimney" about three to four feet down and got wedged. The feeling was so sickening that my only thought was I'm a goner. A "controlled" panic hit me and I called to those behind me I needed out. With the help of a friend to the rear I managed to wiggle up to the flats. I laid there for a bit, collected myself and told the others to go on I was going to work my way out. I never went back into another cave like this again. The fear, the panic, the claustrophobia (that was never an issue in the past), changed me. So yes this could certainly be a possibility. And yes there have been cave explorers killed this way. I knew of one where rocks shifted trapping a fella.

Second, I also thought about the tunnels used in Vietnam. These networks of underground passages were incredible. The North Vietnamese were very skilled in this form of warfare. The French and American soldiers who went into these tunnels were, as you may already know, called "tunnel rats." Needless to say it was a dangerous job usually reserved for smaller guys. There are several books and sources for you to research this on the internet. The Japanese also used tunnels in WWII.

You are awakening to these things because it is your time to discover them. The most IMPORTANT thing to remember is that these things are in the past. It's over, it IS NOT this life! This is a new life with a whole different set of circumstances... happy family, good life etc. Remember that. Nothing that happened then is real now... you're remembering it now as a way of learning about your soul and its nature. I suggest you begin immediately to write about it. Dedicate a journal to nothing but this subject...this issue. Write the details you know; write the emotions and feelings you experience. This will be very cathartic and help you sort it all out.

Next use your Buddhist training. Sit in practice and allow your mind to open towards this issue. Don't control or guide it, allow it to unfold. Then write it all out. A clear mind will understand;)!

Good luck on your journey...

You know......I read that tunnel rat post and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I hadn't thought about that.

My user name Sarge is my rank at work (law enforcement). I have never served in the military but I am a very active member and volunteer at my local Legion Post. The majority of my friends there are Vietnam Vets who are older than me as I was born in 1970. Yearly we take Vets from the area to DC to see the memorials. I usually end up spending a lot of time at the wall talking to the guys there.

For years I have collected older .45ACP 1911 pistols such as Colt & Remington Rands & snub nosed pistols. I know those guys used the 1911 and short revolvers quite a bit in that work with a flashlight typically.

My Buddhist practice centers around the teachings of Thich Nhat Hahn, a Vietnamese Monk/Thay.

I am going to need to meditate on this like you have mentioned.

I think you may have been killed in Viet Nam, and reincarnated very quickly. It's not uncommon for people killed in wars to do that.

You've received some good advice so far, I hope you're making progress on this.

I hesitate to say that what you experienced was a Vietnam past life because I don't want to influence you. It could be, of course, but I think it's also possible that it isn't. Maybe you didn't have a Vietnam past life, maybe you did but it had nothing to do with tunnels. Or perhaps tunnels were a constant across more than one of your past lives and this comes from one of them. See what I mean? I don't want to jump to conclusions about the time period since I think those are conclusions you need to come to by yourself.

There's some information that could make things easier to figure out. Do you know how old you were? What gender? Were the tunnels man-made (brick, rocks stacked on top of each other, wood) or natural rock formations? Do you remember the colour and texture of the walls? What did you see in the rooms you arrived at? Do you know what time period it was in or what continent? What nationality were you?

Even if you can't remember these things, the next time you're focusing on that memory or having a dream, try to remember them and pay attention to those details. They can offer up some important clues. ;)
