The process of Guided Regression, I have found, is somewhat varied in terms of media, method, style, depth, and length of time depending upon whether one uses Audio Tape, Compact Disk, Internet Video, Hypnotist, or a qualified Regression Therapist. Now that I've recently met with Carol Bowman, I can say that I have tried all of these. The very best experience, by far, was with Carol; and it was worth every mile traveled to get there.
Carol is an excellent therapist and devoted three hours to our session. Before going into the regression, she spent valuable time determining what issues may have existed, which was an eye-opening experience in itself; then she started talking me into a very relaxed state, which allowed my conscious mind to focus on the "story".
Everyone has different expectations when using any of these methods; and, undoubtedly, some people may feel disappointed, if they expect to be put into some sort of deep trance with earth shattering validations of past lives. Others may fear the process, because they fear losing control and being vulnerable. I can tell you that my own experience was incredibly revealing, and I never went into the kind of deep trance some people expect or fear. I was aware of my surroundings at all times as Carol guided me into a very relaxed and comfortable state, in which I was able to view three possible consecutive lifetimes.
I should admit that I was a little disappointed with myself, though; because my mental impressions went directly to lives that I either already related to, or which I might have read about. It is clear that I didn't have the kind of vivid visions that other people seem to have enjoyed; but, that is my own fault. One's state of mind can vary immensely, but I think it is possible to enter a deeper trance state with practice. I am still a novice when it comes to this procedure; and I believe that a deeper trance may be possible after this.
My conscious imagination was so strong, that I probably made up the first life of a novice sailor on a three-masted warship, who was killed by the flying splinters of a large cannonball crashing through the side of his ship during a battle. However, I do believe that the process was extremely constructive and self-validating, because it may have helped to explain my own distress at being around balls of any kind.
In the second life I was in the shoes of a minister, whom I had read about some months ago, and I believe that my mind was predisposed to imagine being that person, because it folded neatly within some very real issues that have plagued me in this life.
By the time I placed my mind into the next life, I imagined that I was my long-deceased older brother; again, because I was predisposed and all too aware of his very short life. Again, it fit neatly with some of the same consistent issues in my present life; so, no matter how fake or imagined my images may have been, the entire process was incredibly successful in terms of personal growth. It's very hard to say that these might have been real lives. In spite of this, the session opened doors to my soul, which have had extremely constructive results.
At the very least, it allowed me to form metaphors of real issues. Carol's approach is to make one much more mindful of what can be "taken" from each experience, rather than worrying about proving or validating past lives. This is evident in her two books, and her journey has been unique, in that her focus is always on the healing aspects of childrens past lives.
Dr. Brian Weiss is focused in the same way on adults that he has treated; but unless people can prove that they've never unconsciously learned specific facts from reading, over hearing conversations, or watching television; adults remembering certain memories can't always be sure that they have, indeed, lived those lives. On the other hand, Carol's approach toward very young children can be easily judged as real past lives, because of their unusual behavior and knowledge that cannot be gleaned by any other means.
Adults, can only know for themselves, whether their dreams and visions are real, but few of us would be able to convince anyone else that they are real. However, a two year old speaking a foreign language or knowing the names of verifiable past life family members and friends is truly remarkable evidence for Reincarnation. Seeking such evidence for our own lives is much more difficult. But, I think that anyone with the proper guidance, practice, and motivation can eventually achieve their objective with nothing to fear.
It might be interesting to explore each others experience with regression in terms of method and results. Tell us what you have tried and let us know what objective results you have taken from your experience.
