Past life or future?

Hi.

I was wondering, is there any way of deciding, having had a dream or a vison, and without waiting around to see prospectively, whether the dream/vision is a memory of a possible past life, or perhaps a potential scene from a future life, where the details and memory of the vision leave it otherwise ambiguous to decide?

Thanks.

Hi Lynette! Please let me first explain that I can't speak for dreams or images of my own, let alone those of other people. But, I do have a very generalized opinion, that 90 percent, or more, of all dreams are probably nothing more than subconscious ruminations of non-existent or imaginary scenarios run through our subconscious minds. Although I do believe in dreams of premonition as well as memories from past lives, I think that differentiating them from one another is ever more complicated by the active but subconscious mind.

From what little I know, people who experience past or future dreams seem to intrinsically know, somehow, what periods of time are involved -- sometimes, even knowing the exact date and circumstance. The only way I know of to tell the difference between regular dreams and future dreams is when one encounters a deja vu and recognizes the dream. Unfortunately, the only way to verify a past-life dream as a memory is to discover somewhere that the even really did happen. Otherwise, only personal recognition can validate one's own vision. Then, it would be unnecessary to decide one way or another. You would simply know that it is a past life.

Hello Lynnette. My feeling is that the important question to ask yourself is not "where" but "why." If something comes into your conscious awareness and suddenly becomes relevant to you, there is a reason why. I had a very strong dream the other night (I don't remember my dreams very often). I don't believe that it was a vision from the past or future. Either way, it doesn't matter. When I reflected on it later it became quite clear to me that it was a message of an important change I need to make in my life. If your dream is important to you, you need to ask yourself if there is a message in the dream that is trying to be delivered to you.

Anyway, that's my two cents. :D

My understanding is that the subconscious mind (through dreams) is processing activities and thoughts that occurred during the day by the conscious mind.

I believe that both Truthseeker and Nightrain1 are correct that in the symbolism and methaphor played out in our dreams are "clues," to things we may intuitively know as long as the awareness of these messages via dreams are relevant and important to you.

Suggestion: Keep a note pad and pencil/pen withing reach on a nightstand or bedside. If you awaken during the night after dreaming, to the best of your ability, make notes to yourself regarding the dream. Or first thing in the morning, write down as much as you can remember about your dream.

In this way, over the next few days, or however long; you can review and perhaps retrieve additional bits of information about the dream that may rise to the surface and eventually help you to make sense of the cryptic, symbolism played out in your subconscious.

Hi Lynette. Its really hard to know if what you see in your dreams is part of the imagination or if it is memories of a past life. Obviously, you could easily think something in your dream was a past life memory when it was just your imagination. You could also think something was your imagination when it was a past life memory.

I have a hard time accepting that we can see future lives. I do believe that people can see things in dreams and make accurate predictions becuase I think the events that are predicted are planned events. IMO, when we die, we review the life we just had and then we plan our next life. So I dont think we can view something that hasnt even been planned in the spirit world yet.

Didn't have time to post this earlier, but here's an example of a dream I had when I was probably in my pre-teens, or early teens:

I use to have a recurring dream of a woman that would visit me at a neighborhood grocery store where I worked at as a bag boy. In the dream, a blond driving a red VW beetle would occasionally visit me at the grocery store. While I was having these recurring dreams, they made absolutely no sense to me.

Fast forward to 1969 ... shortly after being stationed at the Naval Base in Long Beach, Ca (this base I believe has since been decommissioned), I would sometimes go to an area called the "Pike." It was a fixed carnival/amusement park area near the place where the Queen Mary is currently birthed.

Anyway, this amusement park had a dance hall. I believe it was my second visit to this dance hall that I was approached by an attractive young blond. She asked me if I would like to dance and I said yes. We hit it off pretty well and she eventually said that she would like to see me again.

Well, we both agreed to meet on a designated date and time. She told me that she could meet me at the main gate of the base where at that time was a small parking area just outside the gate. On the day that I was to meet her, after passing through the gate and walking towards the parking area, I saw her standing next to a red, VW beetle. That first meeting the past dream and this encounter didn't click. But she would continue to visit me on a regular basis, and finally it hit me:

"Was this the woman in the recurring dreams that I had experienced years earlier?"

Coincidence? Maybe. I don't remember a lot of my dreams but for some reason, I've never forgotten that one.

I think it is possible to dream and visualize your future, probably not the distant future, but perhaps ahead to your next incarnation. This is probably something to do with an element of time, that somehow our past, present and future are interlinked. It may be that our essential being is able to experience time relativity in a boundless way like a time traveler, and this is the reason sometimes we are able to glimpse the future or the past.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your responses. I supppose it was a bit of an unanswerable question, but I guess part of me was hoping. I rarely dream, probably because my sleep's so bad, but when I do dream or have one of my visions, and remember it so vividly on waking, it usually is significant, some way or another.

This one was just so wierd though, including a vision of the future as part of the same dream, and I really cannot see it happening within my current lifetime, but at the same time, it didn't seem entirely 'memorious' either, in the same way as my usual 'memory dreams' are. That's why I was wondering, whether anyone might have had experience of both past and future dreams, and how they might differentiate.

Basically, in this dream, I was giving birth, but it was all wrong. The wrong time, and the wrong place. I was at home and getting irate that my little brother was hovering around, worried and wanting to be helpful, but I just wanted him out of there. Then in the next frame, my father breezed into the house with a cheery 'how's it going?', but my mum shook her head - the baby was dead.

The frame after that, I was all upset and crying, but my mum walked in, picked me up, and said 'come one, it's time. We have to do ???' I didn't hear the word she used, but it was some sort of ceremony, and we used what I can only describe as percussion drum sticks to tap on all the windows and doors, to let the spirit if the child know it could go back up now, its time wasn't come. Then, as i was crying, and tapping on the big window, the stars outside started to move and coalesced to for the shape of a woman's head. (The woman was from another of my 'past dreams'. Then the stars turned into a vision of the future, and showed a man sat smiling and bouncing a several month old baby on his lap. My mum could see the vision too, and told me, see, he (the baby) will come back again. Then the dream ended.

I have to point out that in this life at least, there is practically no possibility whatsoever that I will be marrying or having children any time soon, and then there is the whole 'ceremony' thing!! That was just completely random. I might perhaps add though, that I had another vision where I was marrying the man in this dream. Again to point out though, this is such a remote possibility as to be practically non-existent. So I don't know! Was it another time and place, or sometime further down the line and I will suddenly take a u-turn?? : angel
