Past Life, the FOX TV series.

The only discussion on the Facebook page regarding the Past Life pilot had to do only with the music in the show. There didn't appear to be any interest even in that topic. I didn't see any way to add a topic. So, if anyone can find how to get a discussion going.

However, I was able to find many discussion boards elsewhere by googling "Fox" and "Past Life"

Here's the link for the Past Life (TV show) page on Facebook.

This Fox series, Past Life, could set past life research, interest, and regression therapy back 40 years. For all the reasons people have pointed out in threads here--the distortions of the terminology, the images of people suffering because they're meddling with past lives.
I couldn't agree more. I had such high hopes for this show, but after watching the pilot and first episode, I am not a very happy camper.

It lacked any element of realism whatsoever. The believability factor surrounding the way memories are experienced - is zilch. It simply does not happen like that.

The way they have portrayed individuals experiencing past life memories is just atrocious. They've made reincarnation into something that looks insidious and wrong, instead of showing it as a natural process. Past life work is rewarding and beneficial - and they fail to highlight that.

Last night's theme was about love. However once again murder and violence were a dramatic factor. I am ready to concede to their need for sensationalism to get an audience. At least I'm willing to look past it to issues that are relevant to us. Love is certainly one of those highly charged and emotional issues that have pulled some of us into beliefs in reincarnation.

In watching the series last night I was interested in the story only because I can relate to it in some ways. I know the intensity of meeting a past life lover. I was very disappointed when again they refer to the "victims" memory as "you're ill." That's wrong.

I remain a viewer of the program. I am glad it is a topic on national TV and hope it gets some of these problems worked out.

Yup, I read that somewhere else yesterday. Too bad. In retrospect, they had some things wrong. And the killing thing still bothers me, but I was and am still grateful to MJ Rose and the network for at least attempting to bring it into the main stream. I enjoyed the program's entertainment value and politely cringed at the misuse of terminology. I was hoping, maybe, with a little input from experts they might bring it up a notch or two. I do believe Carol's input would have been a tremendous asset.

I suppose what gave me the most satisfaction was watching the actors portray something very familiar to me. And that was in the last episode when the two lovers met. For those of you unfamiliar with that feeling, I think they did a reasonable job at depicting it. There is an incredible emotional jolt that you can not explain. It is like a panic attack. So, for me I found common ground there. I liked the actors too... the last scene where the doctor and the detective are having a shot of tequila, it left my "soap opera/romantic/shallow-need-for-TV drama" brain wanting to see them kiss.

Oh well, maybe it'll be returned this summer and we can debate it's merits again. We at least had the opportunity for a while.

This is typical FOX. I've seen them do it over and over again. If a show isn't an instant hit, they dump it before anyone even gets a chance to notice it. Canning a series after three episodes is ridiculous. They never even gave it a chance to develop a following. It's not a main stream topic, so they could realistically expect it to pull big ratings. Not to mention it was up against the Olympics. Most other shows have gone to reruns during the Olympics for a reason. I don't feel it was given a fair chance.

The show wasn't perfect, but if I was ignorant of reincarnation I probably would have liked it more. The last episode about two soulmates needing to break a distructive pattern was probably the most realistic episode yet.

I'm disappointed because the series was such a missed opportunity. :(

I don't have cable, but I was able to catch the first four(?) episodes on Hulu.com. It enjoyed it and will watch more.

I was just looking at a list of all the shows that were not getting renewed for next season. Past Life was one of the shows that was listed as cancelled. I guess I got some bad intell. : angel

I'm beginning to realize that no screen writer is allowed to create anything that isn't overly simple and tied up into a neat and unbelievable package within one hour. I really wonder if the Past Lives series will do any good for Reincarnation at all. Maybe that's why our ancient teachers treated such things as "secrets" to be taught only to worthy students.

The premise of tonight's program was beyond imagination. Serial killers trained by their music teacher? I knew music teachers could be awfully demanding of their students; but this is crazy.

As I understand it, it's just the playing out of episodes that were already made. Then it is- truly canceled.

I love that show, which is of course why they canceled it. Every time I love a show, it's like the kiss of death. My co-workers have given me a list of their favorite shows and asked me to please NOT watch them!

It's quite an entertaining show, even though it's like a 'caricature' of what reincarnation is really about.

A job I used to work at I always had co-workers try to get me to watch shows that they liked. Some I'd like, some I didn't. However, it seemed like every time there was a show they pointed me to that I would genuinely like, it would get cancelled shortly there after. I'm suprised they didn't start accusing me of being a curse.

It is too bad the show was canceled, but look at it this way-- even though it was short running, it must have made some people more aware.

Just to let everyone know; The Show "Past Life" is showing another unaired installement at 8:00 PM Eastern Time in the U.S. on Fox. This one is titled, "Gone Daddy Gone", and the synopsis is: An office worker erupts in a violent outburst after being accused of stealing.

Same here. Whenever I watch something that I truly like (think Journeyman, etc), there goes the show

Woups haven't posted in the forum in over a year : angel
