Some Questions About Reincarnation

Hi Guys, it was a book called "Many Lives, Many Masters" that got me interested in the concept of past lives, and I'm really eager to learn more. I think I'll book an appointment with a hypnotist in the next few months, but there are things I want to know first. I suffer from fairly prominent anxiety issues, and I do believe their cause may be rooted in past lives.

- First, I have a question to do with the greater scheme of reincarnation. Humans achieved "behavioral modernity" around 50,000 years ago. Before that time, we would have been primitive ape-like creatures. Does anyone know/have an opinion on when souls started coming here to have a human experience? Or do you think maybe it has been happening since the beginning of earthly life, and as humans have evolved the experience has clearly become more complex, but reincarnation was happening even as we were primitive beings? If reincarnation had a "beginning," will it also have an "end?" I'm sorry if my question is a little confusing.

- Does reincarnation explain homosexuality?

- Is earth solely a school? Are there any other reasons for the existence of humankind, other than the learning of lessons through human experiences?

- Are we supposed to know about reincarnation? Or, are we supposed to go through earthly life without knowing that we are actually spiritual beings? Once we know about reincarnation, does it alter our lessons/path?

I hope that we will be able to help in any way to answer some of your questions and concerns.

There are many opinions regarding these questions, but I tend to think that the reincarnation process belongs at least to all sentient beings, and that it may have been going on for as long as life has existed. However, for the sake of this Forum, we try to limit our discussions to the human past lives on Earth, which have the greatest influence on our present lives here.

Many references to reincarnation seem to suggest that we can come back as the opposite sex, and there are many threads in this Forum which discuss this very topic.

Is earth solely a school? Are there any other reasons for the existence of humankind, other than the learning of lessons through human experiences?

It has been suggested that we are here to teach as well as to learn.

Once we know about reincarnation, does it alter our lessons/path?

It has been suggested that we choose our lives with the help of guides before we are born, and that our level of awareness depends upon whatever was planned. I personally believe that we should earnestly seek to know more, and that it can, indeed, alter our path.

Welcome to the forum. I think Nightrain1 has given you some excellent answers there. I agree with them on the whole.


I believe that all things 'reincarnate'. I wouldn't even limit it to 'sentient beings'. I would include rocks, mountains, planets and such. The whole universe seems to operate on a process of recycling, circles and spirals. I'm sure reincarnation is as old as life itself. I think reincarnation as an important aspect of human evolution as the biochemistry of it is. I think our behaviour has evolved (slowly and painfully!) because of our collective learning curve, karma, trial and error and so on over many, many lives.


As to the 'why' question, well, that's the big one that people have always wrestled with. Many people have their own understandings about the 'why' questions - this is a school, this is a game, this is a test, this is a dream...


Is there some 'ghost in the machine' directing things (God, however you conceive Her)? Who knows? I tend to think we are all the 'ghosts' and we are all gods and we are all directing things and it certainly seems to me to be chaotic enough the way that life works sometimes! Surely, this is being worked out by a committee!


Nobody really knows the answer and maybe that's appropriate, that we all have to work these things out for ourselves.


I will enjoy hearing more about your discoveries as you go along.

According to Edgar Cayce, souls started coming to the earth plane about 18 ½ million years ago.


Reincarnation does have a beginning, and yes it will have an end.

By 50,000 years ago, some of the greatest civilizations this planet has known had risen, thrived, and disappeared, some having far exceeded our own in certain accomplishments. As is also the case today, primitive man also co-existed within the same time period as these high civilizations. Sort of like 'Silicon Valley meets New Guinea tribesmen.'


Reincarnation goes a long way to explaining homosexuality.


It is a law of the Universe that all things must balance. Souls usually persist as a chosen sex, but when they get too far out of balance in their attitudes towards the opposite sex, they must do a few incarnations as that other sex. This explains the feeling of being 'trapped in the wrong body'.


When the entity finally learns the lesson of not being so one sided, they can then once again choose which sex they want to be.


Earth IS a school, but there is a lot more to it than that, and far too lengthy to include here. One of the purposes of being here is to come to the full realisation that you ARE a spiritual being. There is a veritable mountain of literature available on reincarnation which will give you a greater understanding of your reason for being. Keep reading, you'll get there. It may not change your path, or the reason you chose to incarnate in the first place, but it may change the way you choose to go about achieving that in your daily life.

My personal opinion is that soul and consciousness is deeply inter-twined and dependant upon one another. When human beings developed 'behavioural modernity' (you will probably have to count in the Neanderthals as well, so it's earlier than 50.000 bc) they also developed abstract thinking, which is required to believe in concepts like reincarnation. When people started to believe in an afterlife, the afterlife 'came to life' as did souls and the belief in reincarnation can probably be traced, if not back to the neanderthals (the archaeological remains from them are very few) then at least back to the h. sapiens.


The consequence of this line of thinking is also that when there are no humans to believe in reincarnation, it won't happen anymore. The human and spiritual world feed on each other, so to speak.


I'm not sure if homosexuality can be solely explained by reincarnation - there may be other biological factors as well, however I do believe that gender issues are probably past life related (but that is just my opinion!). We change gender from life to life - sometimes we live many lives as one gender and then change to the other. The transition can be tough, many people feel they have male or female quirks lingering and in some extreme cases perhaps can't 'shake off' the opposite gender thus feeling that they were a man born in a woman's body or the opposite.
