Spontaneous memory

Being the daughter of a fundamentalist preacher, I would be the last one to think of "past lives" as being anything than imaginary. My life has been a stormy and painful one. Becoming pregnant at the age of 17, my preacher father sent me off immediately to a christian home for unwed mothers. I felt as if I were being disposed of. The shame of being pregnant was bad enough, but being forced to give up my lovely child was an act that broke me. Once "harvested", I was sent back to my family who did not really want me. Their shame was also deep and they silently blamed me for defacing the family. I left as quickly as I could. Even 30 years later, I suffer from having had to do this. During anniversaries of my little girl's birthday, I would lament in a dark room. One of these times, I caught myself calling out loud "why?" "Why did something like this have to happen to me, what had I done?" The answer came in a few seconds. Directly inside of my brain, I was shown the reason why. An entire "film" played inside my head. I had been the spoiled daughter of a southern plantation owner. My father had coupled slaves and sold their offspring much too early causing extreme pain to those mothers. I, supposedly, could have stopped this by talking to my father at the time, which I did not do. That lack of courage is why I, in this life time, was prepared to go through what those women were forced to go through. This spontaneous memory has not lessened the pain, but it has opened a new door to learn about past lives, current options, and future lives based on what we do and more importantly what we do not do. I have been reading and learning by leaps and bounds since that instant memory.

Welcome, if you're new.

I'm sorry you had to go through that.. Very interesting memory, though.. Still very sorry..

Welcome to the forum Heikefa, and thank you for sharing your story. It appears your vision was a true gift and I am glad to hear how it has provided a sense of understanding for the travails you have endured. Please don't hesitate to share your perspectives on this and other topics on the board...it will enable all of us to further our understanding.

Thank you once more.

Hi Heikefa, and welcome to the Forum.

I think you know—deep inside your own soul—that none of us as individuals would have had much influence to change the unfair practices of the past, any more than we as individuals today can right many of the wrongs that still exist. And the idea that we are somehow paying for the sins of past lives is probably equally naive. As to receiving an answer to your question, "Why"; I think you are on the right path by investigating reincarnation and coming here to learn as much as possible about a concept which was quite intentionally purged from Christianity may be as much a part of your purpose in life as trying to understand how you came to be separated from your daughter. One clue may be the strict Christian background of your father.

It is undeniable that we often find ourselves on profoundly important paths, usually as a result of some disastrous event in our lives. To some, these events are not the kind that we would be proud of or care to repeat; yet, we know that denying them would be to deny who we are today. Would it make sense to put ourselves in a situation as punishment for one of those disasters? Or, would we choose a situation which capitalized on that experience? By the same token, would it make sense to put ourselves in a situation as punishment for something that happened in a past life? Or, would we choose a situation which capitalized on that experience?

The Christian culture, whether religious or not, is based on the belief that we are being controlled by a higher power like puppets on a string, and that our purpose is to subscribe to and worship that higher power. Not do do so implies guilt and punishment on our part. So, it is natural for us to incorporate this into what I would call "more enlightened Eastern concepts" in such a way as to totally misconstrue the idea of Karma.

So, again...Welcome to the Forum, and to a new way of thinking about yourself, in which you really have more control than you formerly believed.

Welcome to the forum, Heikefa, and thank you for sharing what I'm sure was a very painful story to tell. I know what it's like to lose a child and feel abandoned by one's family. Have you ever thought of looking for your daughter? She may well be interested in hearing from you. I think there are many sites on the internet that may help you search. You never know where something like that may lead -- it just takes courage. Bless you!
