Syncronicity and coming out of the closet

I mentioned the James Leininger story to a hardcore, religion-bashing atheist friend, and he thought it was interesting. He didn't condemn me or anything. Since I was an agnostic for such a long time, I knew where he was coming from in the "there's a lot of things wrong with organized religion" camp and explained that out of all the theories of what happens after death (besides nothing), the most compelling evidence is about reincarnation (Stevenson, etc.)
 
In discussing reincarnation I have been met with every sort of response. A very southern catholic man was contemplating the loss of his father on our long drive back from a golf course and he was extremely receptive to the idea of reincarnation, to the extent he has read all I have and now calls me with the latest information he has discovered on his own...not only on accepting his father's passing, but also regarding his soul level associations with his family and friends.


The same scenario with another friend was met with derision, fear and a mind blown for the rest of the day and some time afterward...and I am not one to wield a heavy caber of reincarnation twaddle. I have always approached it as a natural segue into the possible explanation of the christian "eternal soul".


I suppose I am fortunate to not have lost any friends...for some reason people seem to seek me out to discuss things, and on occasion, this is what they get. The fundamentalists of the bunch are often too busy telling me what they know than to listen to what my interpretation might be...and to assure me that I am wrong. My response has usually been "That's the thing about beliefs...everyone has their own." Then some even try to guage levels of faith and "rightness", all arguments being zero sum, so it becomes time to change the subject.


I am always gratified to find someone with whom to discuss these matters. However I don't feel compelled to "come out of the closet" and beat the drum as a missionary cousin-in-law is wont to do for his level of fundamental christianity. I sense that those who are meant to see in this lifetime will seek it out and make themselves known to those who can assist them.

I don't bother much with coming out of the closet either. Other than asides such as "oh I must have *something* in another life" as a casual and humorous explanation for some unexplained behavior, I only get "oh you don't believe in that do you?" so I figure it's just not worth bothering with.

LOL I know! How about, this moment only happens once, or it's a chance of a lifetime? But no, sorry, we don't ONLY live once, hahahahaha.
 
I wonder why researchers aren't looking into future lives as an avenue of "proof."

Oh yes...Helen Wambach Ph.D. I nearly fell out of my seat! She was the author of Reliving Past Lives - The Evidence Under Hypnosis printed in 1978. She is the one that broke the ground work for the rest of us. Well of course we talked about everything we could, her past lives and future lives.

I started talking about it openly with my closest friends for a couple of years, but I've stopped now. It tends to frighten and upset people. Even people I've known for years and years begin to think I might be having a psychotic episode or similar. Many think I'm making it up or imagining it, even though I tell them I've been like this as long as I can remember and think it's just a natural ability that is suppressed in our culture.


Now I just keep this stuff to myself, apart from talking about it here on the forum when something is really bothering me.
 
Well, when I was a child strangers often came up to my mom and commented on my old soul.


I also have at least three friends who believe in reincarnation. One of them is the one who brought it up to me recently and made me feel more sure about it. I have no clear memories but I've always felt really old soulwise. It's weird to feel much older than your parents and grandparents.


Fun story, when I started to speak I described, to my chocked mother, how it felt like to be born.

Your English is fine, Sara, and welcome to the forum. I met a baby recently with the oldest eyes I've ever seen. He was 10 months old, and fully present and accounted for! I know what you mean about "old souls". Some babies are "there", and some less so. You must have been one of the "aware" babies.

Your English is better than some native speakers. English is a difficult language to learn because it's made up of several different languages. What is your first language?
 
Thank you so much. I love English, I learned British English in school and American English through television, movies and music so I love to switch between the two.


My native language is Swedish but I also speak some French and German.


People say that Swedish is very hard to learn because of the complicated grammar but also because of all the weird sounds. But that is good for us since we're able to mimic the sounds in most languages.


So if anyone needs help with words in Swedish or Norwegian (almost the same language) just let me know. I'm happy to help.
