threads of serendipity

Have you ever discovered a string of events that individually seemed purely random, but when put together, usually over a period of years, turned into an absolutely clear connection to a past lifetime, past talent or some other fully formed understanding of some time or place from long ago? I will post mine as soon as time allows, but I wanted to begin the topic while it was fresh in my mind. Please feel free to contribute your "threads" below...no pun intended.

Certainly, one of the reasons I'm here is that things have come together to create a "hunch" that I've been here at least twice before -- once as a 19th Century Minister who went after police corruption in New York, and once as an 18th Century Minister who fought British tyranny in New York. In this life I still preach a lot (in case you haven't noticed), but not as a Minister. Although I haven't worn the "cloth", I've campaigned against police and bureaucratic corruption and have stood up face-to-face against a national motorcycle club whose colors were the same as the British of 200 years ago. Go figure!

Well, it certainly seems that I may have visited places that I had also visited in a past life. I hesitate to bring up John Paul Jones and Sir William Penn again, because they were relatively famous people, but I can assure you I knew next to nothing about them until I was in my 30's, well after my visits to Europe. I was an exchange student to France when I was 17. I visited Paris with one of my many host families, and one of the first things I bought was my "lucky hat" which was a plaid beret/Tam o'Shanter kind of thing. I know I was wearing it when I visited Versailles because I have pictures. When we came to the opera, I felt overcome with the feeling I had been there before in a past life. Not only that, but I felt I knew exactly where I had been sitting and it turned out to have been the "Queen's box" or place of honor, something like that. At the time I had absolutely no idea that John Paul Jones had been honored by Queen Marie Antoinette with an opera (I still don't know if this opera was the one at Versailles, but one would suppose...) in the 1780's. I didn't even know he fought in the American Revolutionary War, and I definitely didn't know he was Scottish.

Later on that year we took a weekend trip to London. For some weird reason we visited Greenwich, where there was a Naval Academy, observatory, museum-y type of place (none of that was *my* idea, believe me). And believe it or not, I was bored. It's like, I really didn't want to be there. But I do remember being fascinated with a portrait of someone. I stared at it for a very long time. It turns out that the portrait of Sir William Penn is hanging in the Painted Hall at Greenwich. Was this the portrait I was looking at? I honestly don't remember.

Other than that, I had a great trip to London. I loved the bitter (17 year-olds aren't allowed to drink in America ... and I must say I've never liked American beer afterwards, I like my beer dark, warm and strong!) and thoroughly enjoyed a trip to the tower of London. I remember wondering if I might have actually spent time locked in "the Tower" in another life. This was a total daydream but as we went on tour one room in particular seemed very ominous. It turns out Sir William Penn actually did spend a short period of time locked up in the tower. And to think that I had kept a post card of that place hanging up on my dorm room wall! So, is it possible that I have visited many places that I had been to in a previous life, without even knowing it? I don't know, but I do know that of all the things to do in London it just seems strange that those are the things I did on a two-day trip.

My string of events started in 1979 when I fell in love for the first time. We talked about getting married and it was wonderful. Then he broke up with me... and died. Although broken hearted I carried on and got married to a wonderful man. In 1996 we had a baby girl. Ten years later (2006) I was reading my diary from 1979, day by day. All spring I felt so sad about his death. In early summer I was feeling less sad and actually had several signs from him. I also became convinced that I would be chatting with someone and find out that they knew my first love. Summer came and went and that person never showed up. I decided that my imagination had gotten the best of me. Fall of 2006 my daughter got friendly with another little girl that was born 2 months before she was. The girls were in an evening art class and I would chat with the other mom while waiting for art class to be over. I found out she was from the same city as my first love. We all ended up going trick or treating that October and I decided to ask this woman if she knew my first love, figuring that truth is stranger than fiction, right? I asked her a few pertinent questions and then I said "I dated a guy from ..., I wonder if you knew him. His name was ----------. She gasped and said "I haven't thought of ---- in years! I had plans with him the day he died, and then I got the call." As I look back through the years, and think about all the events that had to happen for me to meet this woman who knew my first love, I have to believe that we all planned events very carefully. I can't believe that it was all an accident that I met this woman 27 years after my first love died!

Ugh. I didn't put those big sad faces on my post and I don't know how to get rid of them!!! Anyway, substitute the word "sad" for the big yucky heads!

Hi Beadtrader, must be a little glitch... we'll get it fixed... sorry about that!

No problem Beadtrader.

Your thread of serendipity is a good one. Isn't it brilliant how these things work. It's even more powerful when you knew you would meet someone. Were they able to help you with thoughts about your first love? I believe we encounter people to deepen our life's journey, both your love and this new friend are certainly apart of you.

First, went to Newport, R.I. for officer candidate school, fit, trim with full martial ardor...upon arriving I felt melancholy, cried at sunsets and fainted when crossing the Easton's Beach bridge...fully back to normal when I left eight weeks later.

Second, two weeks after leaving Newport and on August 19th, I met "M" with a stunning and mutual instant affection and familiarity. We were deeply involved in days and engaged in a couple months. Odd/cool psychic connections too, but immaturity and distance broke us up in 10 months.

Third, within six months of the above breakup I met someone with nearly the same feeling of familiarity and affection as M, although somehow calmer. We were married on August 19th two years after I met M above.

Fourth, seventeen years passed and I was dozing on a train in Italy when I was awakened by my name being shouted. When my eyes adjusted I was looking at a lifesized vision of M and my head was filled with memories and emotions long forgotten. The vision faded and left my mind whirling and the smell of M's favorite perfume on my jacket for the rest of the day.

Item Fourth spurred my investigation into everything we discuss here...I sought to understand what the vision was and why I got it.

Fifth, I found over time that M had been my sister in a previous lifetime in which we were born to a wealthy family and she and I were in a car accident in which I was killed as a young man in the northeastern US.

Sixth, I happened to pull down from the shelf a book I bought years before and had yet to open. As I thumbed through it I noted the familiar manner of speech and colloquial word usage by the last private owner of the Hope Diamond, kind of a cocky, funny attitude just like M, who commented that she was not worried about the "curse" because she was cursed before she bought it...her brother had died in a car accident in Newport, R.I. on August 19th while crossing the bridge at Easton's Beach!

In short, I went to Newport and got faint near the spot of my earlier death. Two weeks after leaving Newport I met my former sister on the anniversary of my death, August 19th. Two years later I married another woman on August 19th (who, from another thread of circumstances turns out to be my and M's mother from that earlier lifetime!). Then on a train in Italy, M comes forward to redirect me into thinking about first her, then me, then my relationship to all I hold dear. I then found a book which nearly jumped off the shelf and identified the parties involved in that earlier lifetime.

So, these threads of serendipity are slowly and surely weaving an understanding of the tapestry of my soul's sojourn on earth...and others are picking up where that one left off...what a wonderful game!

So I wanted to be a verterinarian....never made it. However for the last twenty two years have worked for a couple of them and tend to run the place..(As I have been told...not that I want to.) But here's the point.

My boss, who I met when we were both working at a vet hospital about 22 years ago....the first time I met her I swore I knew her before but in the dreams that I had after that meeting, she was a blonde who ran a 'girl's school' and was a Countess, and she was my aunt.

Since that time many other things have occured...BUT since we met she has gone blonde, opened her own vet clinic, and the majority of employees are young women who seem to launch away from our practice like graduates from school, very much like thedream that I had of her in 1930s Vienna society.

Makes ya think.

the other really weird thing was that I was tormenting my elder brother once who had served in the US Air Force in Germany in 1970. He came home with pictures of all these girls, kinda like a Lothario. So I chirped at him, "And don't forget the triplets that you left in Germany: Helga, Hilda, and Helmut!" Turns out that those are the names of Joseph Goebbels' eldest three children in Nazi Germany.:freak:
