What is the meaning of my life?

I have been inactive for a few years and this is personal but is the only the place I feel comfortable to post this.

I am struggling to find meaning to my current life.

I had a good childhood, loving parents, have my own home, the same stable job for the last 33 years although I never felt like i have found my purpose in life.

I struggled with myself a lot up into my 30's with anxiety and never was able to enjoy myself in social situations where other friends and family around me were able to even as much i tried.

I have been better for the past 10 years or so but live alone, never had a intimate relationship, have few close friends.

I am a strong believer in reincarnation and spirituality and this is one of my many past/future lives but for those with a deeper knowledge what do you think the purpose in this life for someone in my situation?

Thank you.

Hi Joyful Mare,

Usually, this question is someone's quest for their entire lifetime. If I were you, don't trust outsiders to tell you about your own Purpose on Earth. Nobody will know for sure, except you.
I do think that as we are multi-layered beings/souls/spirits we also have multiple purposes in life, all corresponding to a different level of 'YOU'.
Think about things like: I am here to observe an important part of history (1), I am here to help my sister overcome her difficulties (2), I am here to meet my past life lover again (3), I am here to give birth to some amazing spirit friends who will become my children (4), I am here to study musical experiments (5) and so on, and so on...

How do we find out? Sometimes it is easy because your passion for something will lead you toward your calling (music, raising horses, teaching, inventing, etc.) Sometimes you experience some kind of spiritual connection/experience in which you suddenly understand your calling or purpose in life. Sometimes this happens in a dream. Sometimes people do a lot of self-search, and some people experience a strong inner knowing.
Personally, I know some of my purposes/callings although I don't think I know the entire list. I followed the path of analyzing my passions and concluded that one of my things is enjoying myself creating things with raw materials, enjoying the things that are impossible to do in Higher Realms. Gardening, textile arts, fermenting, painting, and so on. I've also been a teacher and helped people. So, I came to the conclusion our Purpose is actually a list of 'To Do's' meanwhile we enjoy the simple things in Life.

I align with Fireflys sentiments. All people should have the right to learn and define value or meaning on their own. Change is constant. We came here for experiential wisdom. I am always drawing parallels to the child instructed not to touch the hot stove... Only to burn his or her hand out of curiosity.

I would also like to congratulate you on a steady job and income. Perhaps you don't see it as something to congratulate but I am presently seeking financial independence and one day hope to own property and a home.

We can both be grateful for loving parents.

With regards to an intimate relationship... During my short years incarnated here, I have had multiple love interest and am presently single- I'm not sure any of them have provided contentment with regards to the intense longing I still experience periodically. No one really fits, "the mold" and I think that's because relationships require work. Fantasies are just that. Ultimately relationships are wonderful insights for learning about ourselves and choosing how we wish to live. Contentment comes from within. To achieve the "ideal" many fantasize over would mean both partners are willing to work and sacrifice for each other and I think that's a rarity. I am starting to recognize just how much of a romantic I really am and how much I want to give someone my love feelings despite interest not always being equal or reciprocated. I am not in despair, I am grateful to learn a little about my self and others and to recognize what I want to give without worry over what I may never have it.

I understand feeling lonely. I really believe however, in the end I have never been alone but have been provided for by a loving and guiding intelligence. I am also starting to believe what I choose to do with this life now is not just for my self and so, I find joy in the choosing aspect. Think of the loving parents we both find ourselves blessed to have.

To me, it sounds like a couple of things are at play worth considering... I can't say with certainty this is what's happening- I believe addressing these issues can help how you're feeling...

It sounds like
You're bored and feeling lonely.

These are questions and idea's I do not expect to debate moreso I'm just brainstorming with the hopes it might provide useful in your contemplation...

Perhaps life is a bit routine and you need to change things up. How scheduled is your daily routine? Is there a new practice you could include to help bring about renewed perspective? Do you exercise regularly? Are you getting fresh air and plenty of sunlight? What about taking a road trip with one of your close friends? More importantly, what's something you consider fun and want to do?

Just idea's. For me, while I find value and comfort in routine- I need a change of scenery every now and then. Exercise really helps me feel refreshed. Changing positions in my room. Changing hairstyles... Here's a new one... I'm a grown man and I found my self hanging upside down on the monkey bars at our local park today. Afterwards I was like, wow that really helped me. Freshness. =P

Having a lot of friends is not something I find desirable or something to brag about. With this life I am seeking quality relationships. People I can be candid with and completely comfortable around. In this life I am trying to honor my relationships- including family. I have found things of value worth pursuing... And even then, I am sure with all the change that happens simply living life and growing older I may re-address lessons, re-define purpose or even discover entirely new desires.

And all the while I have a firm belief God is interested in the little things, including you and I and the internal chatter we dance with... We are never truly alone.

It's good that you are finding value in the things around you. Do you have any new years affirmations? I hope to make meaningful and achievable affirmations this year. It might be something to start thinking about.

I also hope you go out and do something fun for your self. Enjoy some fireworks.

Happy New Years and
Kind regards,
~CP

I feel that.

I'm not sure we all necessarily need to have some clear driven purpose. Sometimes just existing and doing okay is enough. What is your heart telling you to do?

Echoing what Cloud Potato said, a change of scenery might help.

Hi, everybody.

I sometimes found meditations in youtube that dealt just with this: helped you to find out what your present life purpose is.
I never used them for myself as I think I know the answer fairly well in my case, so I need no further exploration.

But I'd have jumped to the help they offer if I didn't know the answer already.

IMHO.

Best Regards & a Happy New Year to all of you.

Reincarnation has no purpose, life has no meaning, and the spiritual world has no rules. (In my opinion)

Thinking like this not pessimistic, on the contrary, it's liberating. Instead of having an outside force (destiny, the universe, God) placing a duty and a meaning to your existence, now the choice is yours to do as you please, or not do anything at all, which is also a choice. IF there is indeed a meaning, IF there is indeed a God, would you ever be able to know for sure? No. Would we ever know for sure anything in life? No. Therefore why suffer?

Don't fret over trying to find the meaning of your life, there isn't any (IMO). Do things that make you happy. If you strongly feel that you need to do something, then by all means do it. Is that the meaning of your life? Yes, no, doesn't matter, appropriate it as such if that gives you energy and motivation. Actions keep the world moving and the soul active, idleness and stagnation are poison. Live life in a way that you can be proud of.

I think that everybody should try to find answers to that question, but how?

As there is no way to know whose advice, or opinion is correct, I believe that the only available way is to unbiasedly tap your inner-source of knowledge and guidance. I'd suggest that you learn to do that.

I use self-hypnosis to get into the optimum trance state for that. Others use mediation, prayer, lucid dreaming, chemicals, .... It takes a little time, like everything new, and then you have to always be careful not to distort, with your beliefs and expectations, the knowledge and the guidance you get .

I learned that practically everything can be interpreted at different levels of depth, and as others pointed on this thread, the best interpretation for one my not be the best for another. So, there are answers of different depths to the question: "What is the meaning of my life?"

"Illness is often the result of ignorance and lazy mental habits"

— "Seth Speaks" by Jane Roberts, Part Two: Chapter 12: Session 551, September 30, 1970

This relates to a recent discussion about some gurus' experiencing illness unjustified by their lifestyle, and seems in line with Bernhard Kutzler's hypothesis that mental growth stagnation may lead to cancer, obesity, excessive sensorimotor activities.

I think that seeking activities that stimulate our intellect and intuition, are good for our overall health. It is the reverse of the adage "Mens sana in corpore sano".

If you wish to seek purpose in life, perhaps you need to follow your intuitions which might direct you forward. As per eastern philosophy, intuition arises in present moment awareness, or when one is mindful, equanimous and relaxed.

This was taught to me personally by a spiritual master, and I had some incredible experiences while following my intuitions as he taught. I have also seen people acting under the influence of intuition and consequently averting danger to themselves or their loved ones.

There is a holistic intelligence operating in nature, and if we can access this properly, it might help to determine the right course for us and also bring about course correction when required.

I would recommend meditation or spending time in nature mindfully and patiently, so as to deeply relax oneself and access the inner voice.

Here I must say that the inner voice of intuition is different from the usual mental chattering or incessant thinking and emoting we usually engage in, and which effectively veils the inner voice, and also prevents us from noticing the beauty of nature around us.

I remember going to the beach once to view the beautiful sunset which I enjoy a lot. However on this occasion I got involved in a mental dialogue and consequently forgot to focus and enjoy the sunset happening in front of me. It irritated me a lot later on, but the memory served to warn me to be present and mindful so as to get the best of what life and nature has to offer.

Joyful Mare,

Only you can answer this question because this is your journey as soul to discovery the meaning of existences. In fact, from my own personal experiences the soul incarnates into the physical dimension so that it may know itself by its own experiences. Which is why we are all here. And because we are all individuals each soul's journey here is unique and different.

From my perceptive most of the human race has no idea who they really are as soul as they heavily identify with the physical body and the lower ego as the self. Which are only temporary in nature anyway. Because of this they go through life in a sleep walking state from cradle to grave never knowing who they truly are as soul. So, they repeat the process over and over again life after life after life. Stretching for hundreds if not thousands of years. Yet somehow along the way something happens that shakens the individual into questioning the nature of reality itself. And slowly and surely awaken from their earth like slumber of the Maya or illusion of this world and start on the path towards becoming aware one again of who they really are. Getting to that point is a very individual and unique process for each soul.

It sounds like you are already on that journey now. Just stay true to your own inner self and all will be revealed.

Peace and love.

Just want to say I sometimes wonder the same thing myself. I especially get these kind of thoughts around Thanksgiving time.
