Kind of wondering ive heard a lot that in-between lives we choose what our next life will be like. If this is true why would one choose to have parents with different beliefs such as me having atheist parents while I ended up believing in Wicca.
Your post attracted my attention, so I interpreted it intuitively. My interpretation might not fit your personality.
I think this could be interpreted same way as a physical health condition can be interpreted.
The symptom: tense relationship with a group you are closely tied by birth, but with which you diverge in beliefs. This causes some estrangement.
The symptom, the tense relationship with the family, is caused by a a major difference in (religious, spiritual) beliefs, that sprung at some point in life.
The symptom causes some estrangement from family, which results in either loneliness, or attachment to a group that share your belief.
This situation is a symbolical message.
An intuitive interpretation could be that the subject is in a situation caused by his beliefs contradicting his innate condition, what he was before the conditioning resulted while growing up. The tension (pain) suggests that there is something that the subject needs to understand and resolve, a lesson to be learned.
The tension resulting in loneliness or attachment to another group with which he shares the same belief, points to the approach to "cure" the condition: to remove the tension by eliminating the dissonance in beliefs, the dissonance between what he is and what he believes to be.
Loneliness or a group association change won't "cure" the condition, the lesson would remain unlearned, and the cause will manifest again in another symbolical form.
