Emotions at night time

I don't actually have a good name for the thread of this question. I'm just curious to know if people ever get the feeling something is missing, or a feeling that you're left behind? I don't know how to describe it. Its not like there's a known reason for the feelings but they just kinda creep up on you.

I tend to get most of these emotions at night time. Is there something about night time that tends to bring lonely, negative, depressive emotions? I wonder if any of you can relate to this?

Yes. When I was a teenager living at my old house I use to wake up in the middle of the night and cry about my soul mate (from a past life?) The funny thing is I haven't met this person yet, but there was something about the witching hour that triggered these emotions.

Ah, yes I used to cry myself to sleep many nights between the ages of 4 to 7. It was an overwhelming feeling of missing something but having no idea what, like I was suffering from amnesia.

I can relate as well! :)

I've often wondered why I sometimes get overwhelmed by the emotion of being alone or homesick (or whatever the emotion is). I just feel a great sadness and hopelessness, but can't put my finger on any reason why I should feel that way.

I've wondered if I might be picking up some psychic energies when I feel overwhelmed. Have you considered that possibility? :)

YES! Count me in too. Early this morning about 1:30 am, I drove home from town. I'm certain I was the only hom0-sapien for many, many miles... literally. Driving the dirt roads out to the ranch is utter and complete solitude, especially at that time. It made me think back to when I was a child, and how this type of total isolation would have been a nightmare. Yet now it evokes sadness. But a sadness that speaks to a beauty, a yearning. I guess I almost feel more alive in the quiet... like I can hear her heartbeat, feel her breath, smell her existence. The solitude is a spiritual event for me... I read this morning something to the effect: "Life is a series of single silken moments woven together by an unseen hand." Perhaps in these moments of quiet and contemplation we're really noticing these singular moments of existence and touching that Weaver.

I'm glad to know that you can all relate:D.

Sunniva, that's a good possibility. I never thought of that!

Wow!!

I thought it was only me feeling this way. I am glad it is more the norm than not. Makes more since now and maybe I can try to put it on a shelf (TRY).

I often feel a sadness that I do not belong with family I was born into, like others said a feeling of something/someone missing or a longing to be elsewhere. I have felt this way since I was child. Maybe since I never had anyone to really talk to, I never got to the bottom -middle or beginning of this.

I did not know about reincarnation back when I was little. And my family is not open to such discussions.

Very good topic Kristopher ;)

Me too. When I was a little kid, I remember getting this weird feeling every now and then that I can only describe as feeling intensely out of place.

I actually remember one time when I was 5, brushing my teeth before school and I blurted, "Why am I the only one still here? I shouldn't be here." My mom, oh my poor mom, she was standing there and I still remember the look on her face!

I can relate in a couple of ways, Kris...lonely Sunday afternoons somehow evoke a sadness, a loneliness and at its worst, a low-grade sense of despair. Then, as Tinkerman described "I can hear her heartbeat, feel her breath, smell her existence", there is a longing or yearning for someone whom I have yet to meet, but have had the knowledge of her presence and expectation of her arrival for as long as I have been conscious.

I literally just remembered as a small child also being scared in thinking that if I had such great parents this time (by far the best parents in the area where I lived!) that means it can only get worse next time and life was already hard enough. Of course, nobody in my family had any beliefs in reincarnation but this seemed as self-evident to me as the sun vanquishing the dark sky in the morning.

I also remember being laughed at and ridiculed for suggesting that past, present and future don't really exist like we think only find out many years later (to my complete surprise) that a certain scientist by the name of Albert Einstein said something very similar. Of course, back in the mid 80's the attitude was still that children couldn't engage adults in any form of conversation. Makes me wonder what evidence for reincarnation has been ignored or lost.

I've had pretty severe night time issues my whole life. From the fear of dying, being snatched out of my room at night (I always slept facing the door as a precaution so i would wake up and see someone come in) of deep impending gloom and loneliness to sheer depression.

My college years were the worst in particular, having lived in an apartment with a roommate and no family. I tried to avoid going to bed at all costs. I'd stay up as late as possible so i'd fall asleep without that much of a delay.

I often read on this forum that people do have those feelings, and I must admit I also feel from time to time that I don't belong where I am right now, or something similar.

But then I reflect on those feelings and keep in mind what I read a couple of years ago.

So, that is where I look for the primary cause of those feelings, but of course, it can also be a longing for places, people or more from a past life. :)

I can relate too

When I was about 11-12 years old, I felt this way at night. Once I got quite enough and ready for sleep, I would feel SO sad and just cry for no reason. Then I would just see before my eyes flashbacks into a past life of mine, each time learning more. (I've since learned this is easier when you are young!) Soon I recognized that feeling in connection with that life. It was a joyful life for a time, that ended in a very sad, tragic way. I died around 11-12 in that life, no wonder I remembered so clearly. I am much more settled in this life now, and have no trace of this at night time anymore. I actually look forward to going to bed because I have such fascinating dreams, and look forward to the next glimpse into another past life that always seems to be right around the corner.

However, I am prone to sometimes feeling sad, sad for the time period I've been born into, missing the way things used to be, the way people treated each other, and the especially the Earth when it was clean and un-polluted. When I see the farmers next door spraying their fields with terrible chemicals, it makes me want to cry, because I can feel the Earth crying and it hurts...(I have been a Native American before, it's still strong in me to respect the Earth, though no one seems to bother anymore).

Just had to shime in here. I DO very much care about our earth and feel as you do. I pass 2 sand pits where I remember it being just pretty flat land with weeds and wild flowers and animals. And it hurts me to see that they dug big hole in the earth. I feel they just don't care and the earth means nothing to them. I wanted to know who gives them the right to distroy the earth. Oh and they build these walls of dirt so we can not see all the damage, makes me even more mad.

Sorry : angel

Good point! Thanks, I know there are people out there who care a lot about the Earth, sometimes it just doesn't seem like it...I can't stand to see landfills either, it makes me feel guilty for having any trash at all.

Instead of just feeling this way, I've started making a difference where I can, and taking steps for our farm to become self sustainable with all renewable energy one day. It's very rewarding! :)

As a child, when I would come home I would refuse to take me jacket off and scream that I wanted to go home, even thought I was technically!

Anyway, at night I feel very peaceful and contemplative. I usually get a pang of guilt right before I fall asleep, though (this has been going on for less than a year). It's extremely irritating because it happens when I've gotten very comfortable and sleepy, then all of a sudden I get hot and I'm wide awake with this weird feeling of guilt. It doesn't just happen at night though. It's like it happens whenever I get too comfortable. It's almost as if I'm not content unless I'm miserable if that makes any sense at all, which I doubt.

I get the urge to be uncomfortable. It just makes me feel better... I think it has to do with my feeling innately that I don't have the right to feel good while others are suffering. I've had this since I was little, but I didn't really know what it was until probably a few years ago. Now, that I know where these feelings come from they aren't as strong, thank God!

count me in

yes, i have had this same feeling too, i am glad to know i am not alone. Raptor couldn't have put it better:

The good news is: the more my life progressed and the key people I met who were meant to be in my life, the less the feeling is there. its not only the people who came and stayed; its the people who came for a season and i shared a deep bond with; same with the birth of my daughter; the more events and happenings and people who come, the more "closure" on this raw emotion I feel.

just my understanding of it; you havent met yet the people who you long for.

Yes - although for me it is a constant thing, and I think I know why after reading through others responses here and something I came across yesterday.

While I don't believe in Astrology, I think this is the reason - that I am not yet near the coast and after having lived on a coast for so many years that being 'deprived' of being near a large body of water is like cutting off my lifeline.

This is the astrological thing that I found:

If you have a Cancer Moon, you have an intense need for home and family. In fact, the Moon rules Cancer and this is why. You may feel comfort towards water as well. You have an intense need to nurture and to be nurtured. Very possible that your mother was the same mother that had raised you in a past life, who did her best to fulfill your needs especially in your current incarnation. In your prior life you obviously felt no comfort at “home”. You may have been forced out of your home or taken away from your family in your previous life which would understandably leave an impact on your soul memory. And that would have been the last memory that had been carried through into your current incarnation. Because of your difficulty of finding the right “home” for yourself, you are challenged to create your ideal home environment. Caring for your family is extremely important to you and you feel distressed when separated from your family. You also have an innate appreciation for home and family, more than others who do not share your placement. You could be an inspiration to others as far as making them realize that cherishing their home and family is an important part of life. Try spending time by the water, as you may have an easier time connecting with your inner self and find peace within, since Cancer is a cardinal water sign. - Link
