Hi...

I've been following this from the start and I have to say I don't think any post here has had me so intrigued. I have even tried to help out in the search for information but couldn't find anything more than what was already found. Well...okay, I googled "Dejava" and the only reference I found was the name of a Porn Star but that's not what you're looking for, obviously. :D

I absolutely love a good murder mystery. Maybe it would help if you find pictures of the various areas, i.e., pictures of Oregon, Minnesota, etc. and show them to Kade? Perhaps if he sees pictures of these places, he might remember and say to you, for example, "that's where I lived/died." Then you can begin searching for death records, etc.

It is Finnish and we have a historic group here called the Ladies of Kalevala and they have Kalevala Hall. A couple of times a year they have celebrations. I would start out with finding picures of Virginia, Minnesota - and see if Kade recognises any of those. The clues seem to point towards there.
 
Thank everyone for helping me. I appreciate anything that may be found. I have shown him pictures of mountains and snowy places, places in upper Michigan-nothing... I have shown him flags-nothing. I have let him listen to Finnish wav files of fairy tales-nothing.

Today he was sitting on the arm of the chair while I was sitting in it. For no reason he blurted out " I have a brother in Kalevale." I said you do what's his name? He perked his shoulders like I don't know.

He loves to play yellow ducky puppet and I always have to be the one to be it's voice. I tried to get his mama to do it, but he won't let her. I have tried to make her take it home and she won't. She won't because she knows he talks to it too much.

I had him a few hours today and he brought Ducky to me. We started playing and I said "what's my name?" He said " I already told you (the puppet) about Emmy." I said what happened to Emmy and he said "the man shot her and she died." This must be the sister in Heaven. That is all he said today.

I did ask him mother about birthmarks and he does have one that I never noticed. I looked at it today. It is between his eyebrow and the corner of his left eye. It is not colored just sandy looking and it is sort of round. I will take a picture of it next time he is here. It will have to be a close up because it is small. When I do I will post it.

I did ask him a question a week or so ago when he was talking about being the "other" boy. I pointed to his arm and asked him what color he was this color or a different color. He said "this color."

Of course we had to play "bury" today. This time he buried me in pillows and then crawled in and said "don't be scared you go to sleep and then you wake up." If I only knew what was going on in his little head....

Hi Kitn...

Just a thought here but is it only pictures of Michigan you've shown him? Have you shown Kade pictures of the other places mentioned? The reason I ask is because perhaps Michigan is not familiar to him and therefore, it doesn't really spark any memory in him. Pictures of mountains and snowy places, but just "places" not a specific place, might not mean anything to him. I think maybe you should try getting specific pictures...pictures from the actual States suggested. Maybe that might help? I know it's a longshot, but what do you think?
 
I found pictures of Kalevala Valley in Nepal with a river running through hills. He showed no interest. I also showed him pictures of temples without him showing interest. I did find pictures of homes in upper Michigan made of wood (like older towns) and nothing. I just don't have any idea what to do next or what to show him. Should I look for towns, celebrations or historical events? I am at a complete loss. I have no idea what time frame he talks about either. My daughter said we could never find anything unless he can remember something to give us a clue. He said he never went to school so he must have been under six years-old. I keep searching for victims of shootings hoping to find the name Todd, Theodore, Emma or Emily. If anyone else knows of a name other than Theodore that is shortened to Todd please let me know. Thank you for all the interest in my grandson. Maybe one day there will be more to tell.
 
Here is a page with a close up of the birthmark by his eye. I never noticed it before. It is kind of sandy colored. Hope you can see it.

Fab, he never has said where. If he brings it up I will ask him.
Strange I never noticed that before and probably never would have if his mama had not told me about it. It could just be a birthmark, but it is a sandy looking color.

I am going to keep searching in Upper Michigan. I did find on one of the links posted above that there were other states with large Finnish population. I will search there also.
 
Kalevala is quoted among the towns and cities of Karelia (Russia). Karelia is near to Finland.

You may have already done this but what about asking him if the other boy's family had a car or television to help narrow down a time period?

I'm originally from North Karelia (Finland) but live now in Helsinki. Also the other parts of Karelia used to be part of Finland (that's where my late granny was from), but we lost them in the 1940s. So the town Kalevala has always been part of Russia (after the re-naming). The Finnish people were forced to leave in the 1940s so there were/are practically no Finnish-speaking people in the Russian Karelia.

I was thinking maybe Karelia years ago. I read there were massacres of people; buried in one common grave. They were shot and put into the graves. However, I only found one list of names and there were no children on the list even though pages have stated men, women and children were killed. Some were thrown into the mass grave still alive. I am going to show him pictures of towns in the USA.

He has not said anything else in the last few days except Emmy has "yellow" hair. That came up when we were looking through a toy catalogue. He keeps talking about Kalevale as if I should know where it is.

I did hear on a cartoon the word carnival (car-nee-val) where they stressed the syllables. I told his mama this and she said she does not think that is what he is saying. She said no because he is pronouncing Kal-ah-vall and we cannot tell at the end if he is putting a short a on the end.

If he brings up Tod I will surely ask him about cars, television and modern devices.
 
I hope this helps. Please share if you find out more about this. It's very exciting for me that he was Finnish (heritage)! This is such a small country and our language is so exotic you hardly ever cross paths with people with links to Finland/Finnish - in this or past lives.

I'm half Finnish, from my dad's side of the family.My mom's side is Irish.My dad once saw another Finnish person and was shocked to have met another Fin.So I guess it must be rare.My last name sounds Italian so most people assume I'm Italian but I'm not.I guess people would never guess Finnish.I don't really know of anyone else who of Finnish background in my area.I found that link about the Finns in America- http://www.genealogia.fi/emi/art/article267be.htm interesting cause I do live in New York and my dad spent a year in Michigan and I feel I have a parallel life in Minnesota so perhaps she is of Finnish background too.I've never been to Finland though in this life.In terms of past lives I feel I was a laplander at some point and a viking though those could have been in Norway or Sweden.I also think I visited there briefly in a Russian lifetime.I saw a future life in Scandinavia but I think that was Sweden too.I once had a dream about a city and later when I saw pictures of Helsinki they matched the city in my dream so maybe that means something too.

Wonderful story, I'm absolutely intrigued.

You seemed to be getting the most "hits" on the subject of India or a Nepalese connection. There is still his statement involving the riding of elephants which is hard to justify with a North American or Finnish connection.

I did a search for 'daejavaha' and found that javaha is an Indian word for one of the 10 essentional qualities of a dancer. Specifically, agility. I wonder if 'daejavaha' was two words? Of course, you're just spelling the word phonetically so the actual word could have another spelling and dancing has nothing to do with snow.

You mentioned that he told you that you would have to learn the dance if you wanted to dance during the festival. Why don't you ask him to teach you the proper dance? By the style of dance you might be able to narrow down the origin.

Also, "Malingo". Malingo is a rare type of shrub grown in high altitudes in the China, Nepal, India, Bhutan and Myanmar region. It is one of the primary foods eaten by red pandas and people use it to weave baskets and mats.
 
I'm almost think it's possible that Kade could have lived his life as Todd in North America, and have both Finnish and Indian/Nepalese roots.
 
Kade's cousin John is here for a visit. He is 39 and my grandson thinks he is better than ice cream. He talked to John and told him that he was Tod and he was killed. John asked him why do you want to go to Kalevale. Kade said I want to go. John asked what was there and he said "a school." John then asked him if he went to school there and he said "No, my mother teaches lessons there." John then asked him what kind of lessons and Kade said "I don't know" then he saw a picture of a mountain on TV and he said "mountain lessons." We knew that answer came from the television program.

John is very intrigued by Kade's story. I am sure with the raport between them Kade will tell him more while he is here.

John asked me if I ever saw the movie Sophies Choice; I have not. He told me that it is about a woman who had to make a choice between her son and daughter during WWII. She chose her daughter and her son was to be killed, but he survived. When he told me that I remember Kade saying his other mother had to make a choice and she did not chose him. He was killed and they did not give him a chance to grow up. Kade has not seen this movie either.

I did spell that word like it sounded to me. I have no idea where he comes up with these words. He said another one today and when his father asked him what he said Kade said "never mind."

Hopefully while John is here we can figure out a time frame.

Elephants may have just been something he said. I believe he has ridden a horse because at the Halloween Fair he wanted to ride the biggest one they had; and he did. No one had to walk next to him and he moved in the saddle like he knew what he was doing. Maybe that was how his other Dad took him riding in the hills.

Now I understand what looking for a needle in a haystack means. You know it is there, but where?

Dancing is something he loves to do, but then most children do. Malingo he said is wood. He piles it up in layers.

I went through the victim list for Karelia again and still did not see any children's names. I am going to see if I can mail for a list. Everything to me seems to fit there. But then, this world of ours is a big place and Kalevale could be anywhere.

Interesting. Malingo is a "wood". As you can read in my above post, it is used to weave baskets and mats in areas where it grows in Asia.
 
Peter, you could be right. I gave second thought to his "piling" of the wood. He did say "then you sew it." Outside he used a pile of sticks to show me a malingo. I don't know if one would use reeds to bind it together, but he could interpret that as sewing.

Thats pretty amazing. I had never even heard of the word before and he knows you bind it and "sew" it? Pretty cool.

You would have piled it before "sewing" it into a mat or basket as well. If it comes up again, you should ask him what you "sew" it into. What do you make out of it?
 
And, just to add, I doubt they use reeds to bind the sticks together, they probably interlock the horizontal with the vertical.
 
Thank you Peter. He is so busy playing with John everyday. He has told us two new words. One is "di yati" which it took me an hour to translate a page and I found it was a site for reselling children's clothing. The other new word is "skalla mcgull". I did make a sound recording of his pronunciation. His mother found some page which refers to that word or part of the word as an Eagle. Kade did say it was a bird. She book marked it at work and is going to send me the link tonight.

He also said that "Todd" was a very bad boy. I told him there are no bad little boys that little boys are sometimes naughty or do naughty things but they are never bad. He seemed satisfied with that.

I also found that Todd did not have a television set.

He spent the night with me last night. He was over tired from playing with John all day. We got in the bed and I told him Jack and the Beanstalk. Then he started crying for his mommy and boppy. I said daddy is at home and mommy is at work. He did this a couple of times and then said sternly "not Dina" (his mommy) "I want my mommy and boppy."

I think he is confused sometimes and does not understand that we do not know his other mommy or boppy or even Emmy. Is there a country that calls daddy boppy?

John talked to his fiancee up north and she told him she watched a program about James. I wish I could have seen it. Maybe it will be on again. John said the way my grandson pronounces words stressing the sounds makes him think Kade is really remembering something. I am keeping an open mind.

My friend used to call his grandfather "Boppy". It was because he couldn't say "Poppy" or "Pop" like the rest of the kids. I haven't heard it used in any of the languages I've studied, but I'll do a little searching this weekend.

Kade sure has remembered a lot! What a great little guy! Thank you for the updates!

Hi,
I just wanted to say I feel for Kade and for you all. We are going through something similar with our son. Sometimes, he seems to understand that he is in this life now and sometimes he accuses us of kidnapping him and forging photos of his birth.
Anyway, I know how hard it is and I'm hoping that you guys find answers that Kade understands soon.
