Meant For More

Maybe this is me thinking too much and the fall weather getting to me but I keep getting this feeling like Im meant for so much more. As I mentioned before I was born my mother almost died even flat lined for a moment. I cant help but feel like there was a reason she survived and eventually had me. Also maybe its my upbringing but I feel a strong urge to do more in my community and be a leader but not sure how other than maybe volunteering when I have time. Other than that I'm pretty much a nobody and others dont pay attention to me. Sorry if this is something I should talk to a good friend about but I dont really have many friends to talk to.

I find your post relatable. I often feel like I'm a nobody and I was meant for so much more. No one really cares about me, or knows of me. People who do treat me like I'm just, nothing really.

I've often thought maybe it's because in my past lives I did so much and many knew me, so now I feel eclipsed by my past. But it's hard to say.

Hi Galaxy,

Volunteering seems like a good place to start. But I would not neglect the inner life or the higher life. I.e., I would seek to develop a solid life of devotional/inspirational reading, meditation and prayer. These are the kinds of things that, in my experience: (1) help to ground me, (2) elevate my mind to a higher level, and/or (3) mostly and at the least, help me to not slip down to a lower level.

Hmmm. Have you ever read "The Way of a Pilgrim . . ."? It is a book by an anonymous pilgrim in pre-revolution Russia. He is a pauper who has lost everything, his wife, his property, and even the use of one arm. When he begins his wanderings, he has nothing but his Bible and the clothes on his back. Since he is a cripple, and can't do the ordinary work of a peasant, he is allowed to become a religious pilgrim, visiting various holy sites, but it is his discovery and use of what is known as the "Jesus Prayer" that is the heart of the story (and of his spiritual growth). I could say much about this spiritual practice, but will merely say that it is one of the oldest spiritual practices of Christianity, and is held in great esteem and practiced devoutly by many, especially in the Orthodox churches. (More on this topic can be found online and in Wikipedia). In any case, the book is available for free online, or could be ordered from the usual sources. The name of the pilgrim remains unknown, but he and his book is nonetheless famous among knowledgeable Christians, and the prayer--which can eventually lead to transcendent experiences--is also used by great numbers of people.

Of course, that is just my 2 cents. Others may have different opinions on these matters. But I can only attest to the things that I personally believe and revere.

Cordially,

This theme seems important to explore. It resonates, unsurprisingly, with my theme for today: truth, with infinite number of facets, and infinite levels of depth.

It reminds of a funny exchange, that actually is much deeper:

Hi SR,

This rings a bell with me. I think I read something that more-or-less confirms what you just said. But I can't remember where. Anyhow, it was related to the fact that very important and active lives are followed by less important and less active lives. However, I can't remember where I saw this, though I don't believe it was on this board. I seem to remember it as being from some other site I was looking at.

From my own standpoint, I think that it could be due to the fact that important lives, like trips to the gym, are exhausting. They tend to be very, very busy and filled with extremes in terms of highs, lows, dangers, triumphs, and disappointments. So, they are emotionally exhausting as well.

I'm dragging my old body to the gym a couple of times a week, and it definitely takes me more than one day to recuperate. It seems to me that some lifetimes might take a low-key lifetime or two to recover from. Some may take even more than that, but that is just a guess.

I agree with you. I was actually talking about this topic this morning with a friend. I'd mentioned about how this life feels just, useless. But she assured me perhaps this life was meant to be easier, calmer, and not full of so much turmoil.

I suppose being a leader would take a lot of energy. Maybe that's why I naturally have so much energy. Still I dont feel like much of a leader. Doesnt help I dont have much confidence.

I almost feel like I'm supposed to lead, or create some sort of change, and yet my low confidence would never allow it.

When you find what resonates with you, you'll be surprised how natural it feels.

If you feel called to do something, give yourself a chance to explore. I guarantee when you find what's right for you, it will feel right.

Ive been feeling like Im meant to make some kind of change in this world but how can I when no one even pays attention to me.

Change the world through yourself. Change how you see your relation with the world.

All depends only on you: nothing that you experience, directly and indirectly, depends on others or is random. All is caused, attracted in by your beliefs and focus.

I doubt that you'll consider what I wrote, but it might be of use to another. It is meant only as a constructive suggestion, with only minimal positive expectations.

Hi Galaxy,

in my humble opinion, those who make a change in the world do so because they have a clear idea of what they want to do, or a vision of what they want to change. They are also much driven and inspired to turn their ideas into reality, and they start doing it without looking at others and what they think of them. Then, often after many years and with a lot of hard work, (financial) support from others, but also luck, after several failures and some smaller successes on the way, they maybe achieve something that really brings about a change or is somehow important, so they themselves become known personalities. Or maybe not. Some never achieve anything significant, although they work hard and have good ideas, or they achieve something, but don't get the recognition for it. A lot of factors play into this, and being at the right place at the right time certainly is one of them.

What I actually want to say with this: people like this make a change to the world because they have a clear vision in their mind and they start acting upon it. They don't do it, because they want to become someone important or admired. They become known and maybe important as a by-product of what they did (when they are lucky enough) and because they finally succeeded. But this doesn't come over night. And they didn't plan this in the first place. Some never imagine their ideas to become this big and important, when they first start out. Others just want to make money and they invent something they can sell which becomes really successfull word-wide. Some just have a talent.

When you're really meant to make a change in the world, one day you will have your own ideas and visions of what you want to do and of what you want change. And you will have the drive and energy to act upon them, regardless if it brings you any merit, any advantages or recognition. You will start doing something and it may be something very small and seemingly insignificant in the beginning But your ideas may also come to you late in your life, when you are already old. And success certainly won't come over night, either.

I know they say to be the change you wish to see in the world but Im such a nobody that no one notices.

Becoming the change you want to see is about doing something for yourself in the first place, for you to be happy and satisfied with yourself, for you to live up to your own morals/ideas and to be at peace with yourself. It's not about what others think or notice. Then, maybe later, it is about others seeing you as a good example and getting inspired as well.

Im such a nobody that no one notices.

My impression is that what you really want is praise and recognition from others. It's not about changing the world or making the world a better place. This is about yourself. As you wrote in the other thread, you suffer from low self-esteem and feel that your parents (and maybe some other people around you) don't take you seriously. I feel for you, and it's only natural you are dissatisfied with this situation and wish to change it. But it won't change by dreaming about being someone who is important to the whole world and by complaining about being not.

From my experience, when you are dissatisfied with a situation in life, generally there are two options: You have to change the situation or you have to change how you feel about it, change your attitude and expectations towards it. Or a mix of both.

I think an important step for you would be to discover your self-worth, your strengths and good characteristics. I'm sure you have some, just don't know about them yet.
Then to learn to become more self-confident and not to compare yourself to others all the time and not to care so much what others think of you. Maybe a professional therapist would be helpful with this.

Wishing you all the best from my heart

Hi Ryoma,

the good thing about reincarnation for me is the idea that we can experience doing different things and living different lives during our incarnations. It’s impossible to do everything and to experience everything in one life. So living different lives with different goals, purposes, even different personalities is an opportunity to gain more experiences, or at least to have some variation in your incarnations. Like for example, people who achieved great things in life or who were great leaders often were terrible parents or didn’t have kids at all. It’s very hard to combine both. But you can be someone very successful in one life and be a good parent in another. It gives me peace of mind to know, that I’m not missing out on anything in current life because I’ve either done it in a past life or I have the chance to do it in a future life.

Being a leader has many downsides. It comes with a lot of responsibilities for yourself and others, with risks, hard work and sleepless nights. (Anyone who has ever been in a leadership position jobwise has probably made this experience.) Being famous has many downsides as well. Those are often difficult lives. You were assassinated in your life as Ryoma. There are still people who get assassinated today, or who get life threads because of what they do in public… So that’s maybe not a risk your soul wanted to take again in this life?

I’m convinced there are also rather easy lives that we can choose that are meant to recover and to self-reflect. Also, to be happy and just enjoy life as much as we can. I think, a life isn’t any less meaningful just because you’re not having a big influence on the world and because you are not someone famous. On the contrary, for your soul, in the after-life, it is most important how you affected the people and the world close around you, famly members, friends and co-workers, strangers you meet on he street... Those can be very little things in everyday life, like a nice word or even a smile. Your intentions and emotions are equally, maybe even more important as the outcome.

I think, it comes down to finding your own way in life that is in accord with your skills and interests, to do something from the heart, something that satisfies you and makes you happy. This doesn’t need to be “something big” or important to the world. Sometimes I think about what I would like to do in a future life. Being someone like a Buddhist monk, living quietly and focusing mostly on spirituality and self-reflection would be something I would love to do just for once. It just needs to be something useful to yourself.

I guess I am just wanting praise. There is a part of me that wants so badly to be popular and upset that others find me awkward instead. I did some Journaling about this a few days ago and realized the real problem is boredom. Unfortunately I get bored rather easily. I tell my mom the most exciting thing in the world can happen and Im still bored but she doesnt understand. I think it doesnt help that my medication blunts my emotions.

but Im such a nobody that no one notices.

It is as simple as this: you experience what you believe. If you want to change your experience, you have to change your belief that causes that experience. There is no other way. If you can really change your belief instantly, you experience the change instantly. If it takes a while to change your belief, it will take a while for your experience to change. The moment you start to change your belief, the same moment your experience starts to change.

If you want people not to treat you as a nobody, you have to change your belief that you are a nobody.

Few beliefs are intellectual alone. When you are examining the contents of your conscious mind, you must learn, or recognize, the emotional and imaginative connotations that are connected with a given idea. There are various ways of altering the belief by substituting its opposite. One particular method is three-pronged. You generate the emotion opposite the one that arises from the belief you want to change, and you turn your imagination in the opposite direction from the one dictated by the belief. At the same time you consciously assure yourself that the unsatisfactory belief is an idea about reality and not an aspect of reality itself.

I've considered all these things actually- that I wanted to lie low in this life. But, it certainly isn't easier. I've has a lot of struggle this time around, and in poverty for much of it. But, I'm not well known, no one cares what I'm doing. Maybe that is something I wanted. I even think in this life, I was meant to have a lot of seclusion so I can focus on spirituality and spiritual growth. I can't do that if I'm too busy.

I'm sorry to hear you had a lot of struggles in your current life. Poverty certainly isn't something nice. Did you make your way out of it? If yes, that is also a success for sure. Maybe it's a challenge you wanted to experience and overcome. It certainly is a different kind of challenge to face than in the past life you remember.

Yes, focusing on spirituality is difficult for me as well, when I'm busy or stressed-out in everyday life. This could be reason as you said.

When it comes to choosing our incarnations, I believe (based on different accounts) that not everything in our lives is necessarily something chosen or something wanted. Some circumstances can be coincidental or they just turn out differently than planned. And sometimes souls decide to accept some circumstances that are not so perfect (or even bad), when all the other circumstances and opportunities of a particular body are right and desired or needed. Sometimes souls even "miscalculate" and overwhelm themselves with too difficult challenges. While some souls are so eager to incarnate that they take every opportunity they can get, not choosing anything at all. I think, in general everything is possible and the process is probably very individual for each soul and life.

Sadly no, I'm still stuck in a bad financial situation, and have poor health too. The struggles this time are indeed very different, although one remains; being stuck living somewhere small and wanting to escape to the city.

Yeah, stress can keep spiritual, anything, away. Unfortunately, it's one of the worst things to happen for spiritual growth.

I agree with you about choosing. I think I chose to reincarnate where I am for one person, but overlooked everything else and was hasty. I should've chosen in a wiser way.

Ive also been having hard times financially. My problem seemed to started with moving around and breaking up with my now ex boyfriend. My low self esteem probably doesnt help any. If I wasnt so sensitive to rejection due to my low self esteem I wouldn't be so afraid to apply to better paying job.
