New to this... my experiences with my daughter

My daughter will be four in August. Since she was two she has been telling my husband and I 'crazy' stories about when she was big. Being that this has continued for almost two years now and her stories are consistent with each other it is starting to 'freak me out'. It began in the car on a rainy day, she was about 26 months old and said, "When I was big my car was blue and sparkly. Then my friends cried for me." I was a little shocked because she was barely talking in complete sentences and this just came out. I asked why her friends cried and she said, "because her car went into the water." Over the last couple of years she tells anyone who is driving to be careful, watch the road, go the speed limit and not to get to close to the water. She has also mentioned her other mom and dad, another woman whom was really sad because a man took her daughter and she told me that Jesus gave her blue goggles to watch me when I was little before she picked me to be her mom, then he (Jesus) put her into an egg so she could be my baby. This is something that I honestly am not sure that I even believe in, but it has me puzzled. Honestly, I am a Christian and feel almost guilty for even doing this, yet every time she says something so random for a 3 year old, I just can't let it go. I don't know if I'm digging too deep into her stories, watched too much John Edwards, or if there is something to this.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
Thank you!

Hi, and welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your story! :)

She is at the right age to remember like many other children so this is perfectly natural. Don't worry about the Christian part, you can believe in Jesus and be devout Christian while also believing in reincarnation(so don't feel guilty).

When she does this again try doing gentle, but open questions. It could be she is trying to overcome trauma of a previous life so if she is, she is going to need your love and caring to do so. Don't push too hard or she might hesitate.

We'd greatly appreciate if you could share with us any further developments.

Hi Colcat! And, welcome to the Forum!

The experience you've had with your daughter is the kind of core event which makes the possibility of reincarnation more plausible, and is the very reason for many of us being here. This is not to say that our own personal memories of past lives are not believable; but rather that what we may remember has been reinforced in principle by children who could not have picked up some fantasy elsewhere.

The testimony of very young children, who've not had a chance to develop their own egos, is anecdotal evidence, which helps to put our established beliefs in perspective. Perhaps, after 2,000 years of manipulation and political intrigue, the Christian Fathers have not been able to get it right. Our children, after all, may have more of a direct line to the truth.

This Forum was formed on the basis of such stories as yours, and there is more supporting information here than you will be able to absorb in a fortnight. So, I hope that Deborah, Carol and others will be able to chime in with links and resources that will help you cope with this new reality.

In the meantime, I hope you will, or have already read Carol Bowmans books, "Childrens Past Lives" and "Return from Heaven". If nothing else, the many stories detailed there will dispel any fears of weirdness entering your life.

Hi Colcat, welcome to the forum:D

I understand how weird this situation must be to you since you are part of the catholic faith. Many people on here, including myself, were once catholic too. It is stories like yours that show great potential evidence for reincarnation.

As your child gets older, you should look out for phobias and fears she may develop relating to what she has told you now. She may have a fear of being in deep water or even a fear of being in a car. Write every little bit of information down you can. Children eventually forget about their past life and the information they give will stop, so make the most of it. :)

I 100% believe that children are in tune with their past life. What they say should be taken seriously. Think of all the children that have been reported to talk about past lives, the numbers are outstanding. I recommened that you do a bit of your own research on the subject and you know you can always ask us about anything you want advice with:thumbsup: Nightrain1 has recommended books that will be great for you to explore and the subject of reincarnation may start making sense to you.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum colcat, and thanks for sharing your daughter's experiences.

There's not a lot for me to add to the excellent replies you've already received. There's nothing at all to be 'freaked out' by with your daughter, every one of us, including yourself, have been here before. Many children talk about their past lives, but it is nearly always dismissed as an overactive imagination. You just happened to question your daughter's comments, which has led you here to this forum.

As for feeling guilty for enquiring, I wouldn't worry about that either. Reincarnation was mentioned throughout the Bible, but all reference to it was purposefully removed by church leaders a long long time ago, for reasons which are discussed elsewhere in this forum. (I can give you links if you're interested)

I will echo what others have already said and advise you to read Carol's books, especially her first one: Children's Past Lives, and hopefully it will help to put your mind at ease and realize that you are very much not alone. Have you begun a journal to write down everything your daughter says? It's always a good idea, and can come in very handy later on, if you're trying to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Another thing, as Delonada said, try not to push your daughter for more information. You'll probably find that she'll just talk when she's ready, as she has been doing already. When this happens, try to act as if you already know what she's talking about, and go along with the flow of the conversation with simple questions like: can she remember her name? what did she look like? what did her parents look like? what clothes was she wearing? etc., maybe one or two questions each time she talks, you might find that she'll open up a bit more.

Please stick around and let us know how she gets on. Hope you enjoy your time here.

Chris :)

Hi, again, Colcat!

The issue of religious faith has great impact on how we view Reincarnation, and I don't wish to denigrate any belief or weaken anyone's faith on that account. However, if your own faith is being stressed by the experience with your daughter, I would recommend doing some research into religious history -- that is to say; How Judaism came to be; What beliefs existed in the Middle East during the time of Christ; History of the early church; The rise of Protestantism; etc.

You may find, for example, that the stories found in the Old Testament can also be found in pre-Judiac cultures that pre-date the Bible; that the "philosophy" of Buddhism existed in the Middle East during the time of Christ; and that the basic differences between early Christianity and Judaism were Buddhist in nature. As for the changes that took place in Christianity after that time, you can research such names as Origen, Constantine, Arius, and Irenaeus and find out that there had really been no specific effort, per se, to delete references to reincarnation. However, you will find that the early Church fathers spent most of their energy trying to prevent followers from seeking God on their own, even imposing such persecution upon other Christians as rivaled the persecution of the Pagan Roman against the early Christians.

The result, after 2,000 years is a motley collection of over 1,500 different Christian sects, each with their own very structured beliefs, based loosely on a Bible that has been re-written, translated, and changed in various ways to suit the political and civil needs of innumerable theologians, kings and emperors down through the ages. There is no clear direct reference to anything related to Reincarnation, simply because believing in such a philosophy would cut directly into the control that clerics have had over their congregations up until recently.

So, if "guilt" over religious faith has any hold on you, please consider looking more deeply into the source of your belief. One author well worth considering is Alaine Pagels, and her books, "Gnostic Gospels", and "Beyond Belief".

I wanted to add that Jesus did admit to reincarnation although it isn't much known. When he encountered the blind man he alludes to it, but in the gnostic gospels he outright admits it.

"Souls are poured from one into another of different kinds of bodies of the world." Jesus Christ in Gnostic Gospels: Pistis Sophia

Good morning Colcat and welcome. How refreshing it was to read your story. And even more so to read the beautiful replies by our members. Your situation is the core of why we are here... children and their ability to remember past lives. It has been going on for ages and for the longest time it was explained away as childhood fantasy. You are doing the correct thing as a parent by educating yourself. I commend you for taking the extra step beyond religious guilt and seeking earnest answers. I hope that we may be of help to you. I too hope you will stick with us for a while and allow us to learn with you. Our form is geared towards the safety and anonymity of our members, especially in regards to children.

Regarding religion, this is always on the forefront of people like you and me, who were happily raised in Christian homes. I struggled with it too. But over the years, and many late hours of research I've come to a very comfortable place in my own Christianity with reincarnation. It makes such perfect sense. There is an excellent thread on this topic that I often direct people to, its called Reincarnation and the Bible. Give it a read and see if this helps.

Mean while treasure the gift you have in your daughter. You been given a wonderful bit of insight into her soul. I am certain this will only deepen your journey through life and hers too.

Thank you again!
