I rarely ever tell anyone this. When the 80s were a thing, and the time we were really under nuclear threats, I had a dream where Joseph, Jesus's father, came and held my hand whole walking a wasteland devastated by nukes. He would point out things, a flower, a dog, trees...then we turned and were on a mountain area. It was damaged, but the trees were there, and deer and stuff. Very beautiful scenery.
He told me not to be afraid and to remember this place. Told me why, and patted my head and said "this will not happen when you are still a child but when you are older and look on as I do."
I was 6.
About a year ago, we cleared off my land I own. Not all of it, but about 5 acres. The scenery is exact...I own a mountain with rolling hills and...trees. I look at the tree pointed out to me every week and what I was told was there is there.
I'm not especially a Christian and don't identify as one. But yes, I had a nuclear dream as a kid. After I cleared the land, I had one more. Joseph was petting my donkey (an animal not prone to this) and had a hand on my mule's back (an animal no one can touch) and telling me "do not be afraid if you have followed my guidance for you may yet be needed." My land was damaged, but not destroyed in this dream and he asked me something related to the things he told me as a child and when I told him I could do it, nodded and the dream ended in a flash of blinding light.
Hi Elle,
Do you have any idea why Joseph would be the one to appear to you in these dreams? There are innumerable secular characters and many, many Biblical characters and Saints that might have appeared in a dream of this type, so Joseph was (by no means) the only possibility here. But, looking at it from various perspectives, I have two questions: Why Joseph and why you? If this was an actual appearance from Heaven of the "real" Joseph in your dream--why would he be the one sent? If it was a form taken by some aspect of yourself, warning you, the same question pops into my mind--why would this form be used? In either case, why you, especially as you say that you are "not especially a Christian and don't identify as one"?
To me Joseph represents a very protective figure. He stepped into a scandalous and dangerous situation in response to God's guidance--helping and protecting. He followed through with his marriage to Mary despite the fact that she was already expecting, took her to Bethlehem with him, and then fled with her and the Christ child to Egypt to escape the destruction planned by Herod. He was also guided by his dreams in all of these things. So, he is not inappropriate in terms of guiding someone away from danger to a protected place, as well as being an example of wisely following the guidance that can come through dreams. And, frankly, I find his apparent familiarity with, and affection for, the donkey and his kin to be touching and, in some way, proof that this might be a genuine appearance. The same is true of his affectionate pat on your head as a child. These have a "real life" quality to me that go beyond what I usually hear about (or experience) in dreams.
But why would you have such a character appear in your dreams, if these are only dreams? And, likewise, if this was a true appearance from Heaven of Joseph, why would he appear to you, who are "not especially a Christian and don't identify as one"? I suspect myself that this was a true visitation, which makes it of more concern to me. But with that I also cannot help but believe that Heaven has special plans for you, and that you may not long be one who is "not especially a Christian and don't identify as one". On the last point, take heart. There may be more ways to be a Christian than you (or most Christians) currently realize.
I find that I have provided my own opinions, ideas and speculations on the meaning of your dreams rather than waiting for yours. So, I may be totally wrong. Likewise, we do get trolls sometimes, so I also may have wasted my time responding to a fictional account. However, you do not seem untruthful, and if you are it is the risk we all take online. But since I believe you are being truthful, I would really like to hear from you on the two questions I raised as well as on my own speculations.
Cordially,
S&S
PS--Since I have decided to trust your account, I also can't help but remark that you seem to be a good deal more important and beloved in the eyes of Heaven than you currently may think. Dream visitations and guidance of the type you describe are not ordinary occurrences for anyone, including Christians.
PPS--Joseph stands out to me not only as a "refuge" but as a person who takes one to (or provides refuge). My hypothesis is that you have been "tapped" to play a Joseph role, and be a source of refuge after whatever "might" happen takes place. As such, it may be that you stand under Joseph's special protection and guidance.
PPPS--The last dream seems to send mixed signals in terms of the inevitability of whatever disaster is threatened. The use of "may" in the phrase "may yet be needed" might imply that the disaster is not inevitable. However, the "flash of blinding light" at the end seems to indicate otherwise.
