Past Life Dream

commander

commander
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone else in this group has ever had a dream where it was revealed to them that they were someone else in the past who is a somewhat known historical figure?
In my case it is a very minor historical figure whom I had never heard of before my dream and I doubt anyone on this board has ever heard of (there may be a few people who have heard of her name...but no more than a few at best).
I do honestly believe that my spirit/soul that is in my body also inhabited her body.
I hesitate to tell my story because then I will become the guy who is claiming to be the reincarnation of this historical figure.
But the truth is that for those who would believe my story it is kinda wild...and what is also wild are a few other circumstances that prove that God wanted this revealed to me (although I still am not sure why). I am a Christian and simply didn't believe in reincarnation before this dream. Now I obvioulsy do.
Does anyone else understand my hesitance to tell my story?

Hi commander.

Welcome to the forum.

..In my case it is a very minor historical figure whom I had never heard of before my dream and I doubt anyone on this board has ever heard of (there may be a few people who have heard of her name...but no more than a few at best)...
You are not the first and I doubt you will be the last person who has had such experiences and found us here. Your story sounds most intriguing.

...But the truth is that for those who would believe my story it is kinda wild...
Oh really? Do tell! :)

Does anyone else understand my hesitance to tell my story?
Yes. I certainly understand very well. I'm sure others here do too. It is a hallmark of these kind of experiences that they often feel deeply persnal and somehow secret. You are among friends here though, so whenever you wish, I'm sure everyone is very curious to hear your story.

Ok, I will take a chance and tell my story.

This first part has very little to do with my past life, but it is important. When I was 11 years old I happened to look up into the sky and see three gold flying discs. This has very little to do with anything other than the fact that years later I became a little interested in ufos and started to get a newsletter sent to me via email that told of current ufo sightings. The newsletter was kind of lousy with tons of fake photos and not that intriguing stories. I barely read it.

Once, they had an article on infra-red photography used to capture ufos in photos. I read the first paragraph and was bored and didn't read the rest. I did read one interesting fact though...it said dogs and cats can see in infra-red. I thought that was interesting. Anyways...

That night I had a dream that I was sitting in a room with wooden panneling that had some paintings hanging on them and I was playing cards with three other people. It was odd because we were not sitting at a table...we were in our own chairs a little distance from each other...in other words, we were "not close" to one another.

The room was very noisy with a lot of people coming in and talking. It became slightly annoying so I suggested (it actually could have been someone elses suggestion) that we take a break.

I said I would add up the points that we had each accumulated in the game. (this is all seen through my point of view...I never saw myself in the dream).

My points came out to be 1,706. Then I added up the next persons points and it also came out to 1,706. I was excited and told the person that we were tied! "What are the chances of that!?!" I said. They seemed slightly uneasy about that. I then added up the next persons total and it also came out to 1,706. I was just about to exclaim this when I suddenly thought to myself "wait a minute...how can that be? Something is not right here..." I quickly (with a heavy sense of a kind of sinking feeling) added up the last persons total and it was 1,706. I knew something was wrong.

I then woke up.

I never really had anything like this happen to me and the number 1,706 was on my mind so I decided to google it. I went into the kitchen to make coffee and saw my cats and dog and thought to myself "so you guys can see in infra-red huh?" I thought it was interesting.

I grabbed my coffee and went to my computer and googled 1,706. To my surprize the first thing that came up was the wiki page for the year 1706. Hmmm, I thought to myself. I had never thought of it as a year...only as a number with a comma. So I read the page and found nothing of interest. Then it had a list of famous people born in that year...I scanned and found nothing of interest until I came to the last person who happened to be born on my birthday; December 17th 1706. I clicked on the name which was some french mathmetician I had never heard of.

I was surprised when the page came up and it was a woman. That's odd for a mathmetician from that time I thought to myself. As I read the page I was shocked to immediatly read that Emilie Du Chatelet had discovered infra-red! I was shocked because I had just been thinking about that!

But what I read next changed my views on everything concerning reincarnation and where we go when we die.

One important event in Emilies life was once she was in a card game and lost a fortune to card cheats. Just like my dream. This was a major event in her life that changed her life in many ways.

The things that I find interesting about this is that this was not a vision...nor a memory. This was a dream version of an actual event. There was symbolism in my dream...as if I was being prodded to remember it maybe? I'm not sure. But the fact that I had read about infra-red that day (not the history of it, her name was not mentioned in the article) and woke up and thought of infra-red again have nothing to do with the dream....and yet they have Everything to do with the dream.

I feel this was meant to happen. But I'm not comfortable declaring publicly that I am the re-incarnation of Emilie Du Chatalet. But I personally believe that I am...or at least probably am.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Ha ha! Why not.

Welcome once more commander. There's no such thing as coincidence. Everyone knows that, especially mathematicians.

Commander, having that kind of dream would be life-changing. The elegant way that it was "arranged" for you to remember your past life identity was remarkable. Are you interested in mathematics in this life? Some times it's helpful to find a photo or painting of the person that you believe yourself to be. In your case, it would obviously be a painting. There is sometimes a certain physical resemblance. It is said that "the eyes are the windows to the soul", and that might be where the resemblance would lie. I think that it might be significant that there were three other people in the card room with you, each sitting separately, but having the "1706" point total. That might indicate that there are three other lives that you have led that are significant for you. I know that dealing with one right now is staggering enough. By the way, welcome to the forum. Other people will have good feedback for you, also.

"Are you interested in mathematics in this life?"

I have always had an innate ability to do math. When I was in 3rd grade they had to send me to the fifth grade classes for math and I was the most advanced in those classes too. But only in basic math. While I am good at algebra and that sort of thing it bores me to tears. But I am the kind of guy who can multiply something like 37 x 84 in my head. Not instantanously, but I can do it. There are others out there who also can and are far better than myself at math...I've just always been extremely good at math and writing. I have also, from the age of 4, HATED my first name. I would tell everybody that I just don't feel like a "Phil". I asked to be called anything other than my name and hate it to this day. I just don't feel that it is right for me. But I also do not feel like an Emilie! lol

My sister always talks about how when I was only four I would tell everyone to call me Sammy instead of Phil. lol

I don't know why Sammy but later I fell in love with the name Jake.

I do resemble her...we both have wide heads. But yes, if I told someone she was my sister they would not be surprised.

The reasons I feel awkward saying that I am the re-incarnation of Emelie Du Chatelet are the following:

1. It sounds egotistical. She achieved a decent amount in her short life. Trying to in some way connect myself to it makes it seem like I am puffing myself up.

2. It would offend those few who admire her greatly. To have some guy from America claiming that he is in fact her and she is him, would make it seem that I am in some way diminishing her.

3. It's offensive to those who take great pride in the achievement of women. Voltaire (her lover and sort of soul mate) once said of Emilie "A great man whose only fault was being a woman." That's not a put-down as it might first seem. Emilie had to publish some works and not take credit for them because the writings would not be taken seriously if it were known they came from a woman. She advanced womens rights in a very tiny way. So for someone to claim to be the re-incarnation of her and that someone is a man(!)...if not offensive then at least easily dismissed.

4. It kind of makes me sound a bit looney...like someone claiming to be Napoleon. It's kind of like "Suuuurrrre you are...."

By the way...thank you both for welcoming me to this group :)

I understand your reticence, and we have others here who feel that way. I see no reason for you to go public with the information. I wouldn't myself, but that's a personal choice. As for your being a man claiming to have been a woman, that also happens on the forum a lot. Many souls change their sexual orientation from life to life. As a woman, I don't feel that it demeans me, on the contrary, it illustrates how "equal" we all really are. Many of us believe we have been other sexes, races, religions and nationalities. As for sounding "loony", no one associated with the forum would think that. This is a safe place to express any ideas or feelings that you might have. I think I can safely speak in this case for other forum members - your dream "memories" are intriguing, and we want to hear more!

Welcome to the forum. No one here thinks you are crazy or even egotistical. Now that the door has been cracked open, you may start having more past life dreams. Start keeping a journal and write everything down. Be sure and read through all of the old threads here. Also look at the videos and book lists. There is a TON of stuff to read. When you were little, say age 2-7, did you ever say anything that could be past life related? There are many, many stories here about children who talk about their past lives. At that age the memories are close to the surface. Until a few years ago when Carol wrote her books, most people just assumed the kids were making up stories or imagining things.

Feeling awkward about identifying one's past-life is a valid, natural and necessary reaction for all the reasons you mentioned. One must be quite careful about admitting such things, especially if one wishes to survive the harsh judgment of so many varied opinions and beliefs in general society. However, as you know, this Forum is not a part of general society. We all believe in at least the possibility of Reincarnation; and research into the topic does seem to indicate several things: 1. That we may have lived thousands of lifetimes. 2. That we may have lived as the opposite sex. 3. That we may have lived in many different cultures and races. 4. That we may have been members of our own families. 5. And, that we may have inevitably lived as someone very notable or important.

It is my humble opinion however; one thing many of us have also learned is that we cannot derive any pleasure or notoriety from an important past-life. What was then belongs only to history, and our reputation and self-confidence can only rest upon what we have accomplished in this life. We only carry from all those past lives the qualities that eventually bring our souls together in the afterlife. Thus, I share your concern regarding the ego-driven aspect of famous or infamous past-lives. For better or worse, it is not who we are now.

So, in this Forum for a guy to admit that he was Mlle. Du Chatelet or even Queen Boudicca in a past-life would not be considered weird or perverted. It is in our minds part of the natural law.

Like others have said, there's no such thing as coincidences! It's very wonderful to see how that all worked out.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with at least part of that. I don't think there's anything wrong at all with deriving self-confidence from our former lives; in fact it can be quite healthy. There are plenty of people in this world who lead sad and unhealthy lives because all they've ever known is this life. They feel they have to act a certain way, be a certain person, because that's the environment they were brought up in and what people have expected them to become. If they could be privy to the accomplishments and hardships of their former lives and realize that their current does not make up their entire being, they might make a big turn around and be much happier and confident with who they are. An accomplishment is an accomplishment, and for many people know that they are capable of wonderful things could be extremely beneficial to their mental well-being. Too many of us believe we're worthless in this world...

Of course, no, we cannot live in the past, but there is nothing wrong with deriving at least an ounce of pleasure or confidence from it.

I have to ask this question. Do you feel that your past life identity being revealed to you is part of a larger purpose? Of course, there is always some reason that we receive that kind of knowledge. But your "message" was delivered with such amazing precision, it was like a beautifully choreographed dance. Perhaps like something coming from the mind of a mathematician? I have been corresponding with another member wiser than myself. He said yesterday that in the case of a "famous" incarnation, some aspects of an eternal soul will carry over into a new life, but not all. I think, as Red Night so eloquently put it, that if this knowledge gives your self esteem a small boost, no harm has been done. My personal opinion is that the information you received might have been designed to give you a little nudge to accomplish as much as you can in this lifetime, although in a different field. It isn't enough to rest on accomplishment from another life - we need to optimize what we can do in this one.

Nightrain and Red Night,

I see what you are both saying regarding placing importance on who we were in the past in regards to who we currently are. I agree with both of you. If looking at our souls past accomplishments motivates us or gives us self confidence in any way - it is a good and healthy thing. But we should understand that our soul did not accomplish those things in our current bodies, and if we want to be truly proud of our accomplishments we need to do so in the current body we possess. So use our past for motivation to do things in this life and to correct things.

As for Emilie, her primary accomplishments was that of being an author and someone who was admired to a degree by the scientific community despite being a woman.

I myself have written a book and do see the irony in this.

But one area that we differ VASTLY is she treated her servants unkindly. She was an elitist and felt she was above others.

I am the opposite. But she was born into wealth...I was born into a family that struggled to pay the bills. I give a good amount of money and time in helping others who struggle in life and if indeed I was Emilie, then I am ashamed of her actions. But I use them as a motivation to never repeat those actions.

Maybe that is why God engineered it so that I would remember? Because this was more than just a dream/memory. There were things that happened that same day that were an integral part of the overall experience of "remembering". I am refering to the infra-red thing.

I have actually have had this happen too!!! I never put much thought into it when it happened. Though I would think on it, from time to time. I have had someone tell me details about things I wouldn't have known to begin with. It's weird, but cool when you can actually find stuff...it's how I got into reincarnation!

Briar Rose,

Yes, in many ways I feel that I do have a purpose...as a matter of fact there was another dream that I had where God basically told me so.

This was about a year after the Emilie dream (which was about 3.5 years ago.)

I was standing in a field/pasture under a tree speaking with a tv preacher (not the kind that asks for money) whom at one time in my life I enjoyed watching on tv. We were conversing about a subject that isn't essential to this story and suddenly he looked right at me and pointed and in a stern(ish) voice said "Eleven and twenty-two!" I instantly woke up and needless to say that after the Emilie dream of a year before, I knew I needed to Google those numbers. What came up shocked me. They have to do with numerology. Being a Christian I believe in the authenticity of numerology and astrology...it is just my personal opinion that we shouldn't try to get information using those methods (please, this is my opinion and if anyone has a different opinion I completely respect yours and have no desire to debate this point.) So, obviously I had NEVER even slightly looked into numerology. But they are called master numbers and rather than explain it, here is what I read: (forgive the length)

"The 11 is the most intuitive of all numbers. It represents illumination; a channel to the subconscious; insight without rational thought; and sensitivity, nervous energy, shyness, and impracticality. It is a dreamer. The 11 has all the aspects of the 2, enhanced and charged with charisma, leadership, and inspiration. It is a number with inborn duality, which creates dynamism, inner conflict, and other catalyses with its mere presence. It is a number that, when not focused on some goal beyond itself, can be turned inward to create fears and phobias. The 11 walks the edge between greatness and self-destruction. Its potential for growth, stability, and personal power lies in its acceptance of intuitive understanding, and of spiritual truths. For the 11, such peace is not found so much in logic, but in faith. It is the psychic's number.

The 22 is the most powerful of all numbers. It is often called the Master Builder. The 22 can turn the most ambitious of dreams into reality. It is potentially the most successful of all numbers. It has many of the inspirational insights of the 11, combined with the practicality and methodical nature of the 4. It is unlimited, yet disciplined. It sees the archetype, and brings it down to earth in some material form. It has big ideas, great plans, idealism, leadership, and enormous self-confidence. If not practical, the 22s waste their potential. Like the 11, the 22 can easily shrink from its own ambition, causing difficult interior pressures. Both the 11 and the 22 experience the pressure-cooker effect very strongly, particularly at an early age. It must work toward the realization of goals that are larger than personal ambition. The 22 serves the world in a practical way
."

The problem is that I do not know what it is I am suppose to tell (by the way, those descriptions of a 22 fit me extremely well...disturbingly so). I do videos on Youtube on autism and have helped hundreds of families with their children so this might be my message. But for some reason I don't think so and I feel my whole dream about Emilie is involved.

Has anyone done the numerology on your name and Emilie's? It would be interesting to see if there is a link to 11 and 22. I have seen amazing results from those "arcane" sciences, but am not qualified to analyze data myself. Like you, this is not a debate I want to engage in. I am not a Christian, but play for "team God". Again not a debate I wish to have again. Did your subconscious send you a "number" message through a preacher, because that would make you more accepting of what you found out? Numbers are appearing again as a symbol for you. They are obviously a very important part of the picture. I am not aware of books written from the Christian viewpoint, integrating Christianity with reincarnation, although we have Christian members who hold both beliefs. I hope this is not out of line, but you obviously have a talent for writing. Could your eventual mission be to write a book to enlighten Christians about reincarnation, without compromising your faith? This suggestion is meant as "food for thought" only.

Briarrose,

I agree with you about not wanting others to turn this into a debate about religion or politics or anything else that is in my opinion "off topic". I personally feel that it was God using an image of a preacher to make me more comfortable with the message being one of numerology and also to confirm the validity of what those numbers mean in the world of numerology. I understand what you mean by "team God" and as far as my beliefs, I believe the Bible is the infalliable word of God but am so very dismayed by Christians of today who preach hate towards others including the GLBT community of which I support completely in their efforts for total equality. I mention this because I do not know if I would be the best candidate to speak to the Christian community about matters of reincarnation. I disagree with the Christian community on so many of their interpretations of the Bible including their extremely limited view of God. Again, I do not want to turn this message into an off topic message...I'm just trying to show where I am coming from in connection with the dream of a past life that I had.

I do feel that my purpose may be to write another book - this one concerning what really happens to our souls once our bodies die. But it would take a LOT more insight from God to give me more than what would just be page after page of my musings on the subject. I am fascinated with near death experiences of late. There may be a reason for this obsession. What I would LOVE to know is that if indeed I was Emilie Du Chatelet, was I anyone else in-between. I feel it's odd we share the same birthday. Is that common? If I was nobody else in-between, is this another shot at fixing some things I did wrong? She did write some pretty scathing commentaries on the Bible that employed very poor logic...especially for a mathmetician.

I think that we are pretty much on the same page regarding the symbolism in your dreams. That you share a birthday with Emilie seems like a very strong coincidence, and I truly don't believe they exist. I am totally convinced that the two of you are, in essence, aspects of the same soul. I think writing the book now would be premature. Your knowledge and understanding need to grow before you attempt that. Because of the way that you receive information, I think you will be "told" when the time is right. I believe in purpose, and I think some of us are drawn to the forum to find it. I also think that it is probable that you lived other lives between 1706 and the present. I think they were the other three people in the room with Emilie, in your original dream. You could be one of the people who could ask God for dreams of clarification before falling asleep.Another thing you might consider is trying self-regression CDs, or having a regression done under hypnosis by a therapist, unless those things go against your religious beliefs. I would recommend that you read "Many Lives, Many Masters", by Brian Weiss, and "Proof of Heaven", A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife" by Eben Alexander, if you haven't done so already.

Ha! I am currently reading proof of heaven!

I never thought of it but I totally agree with you; when the time is right I will be told in one way or another. Past life regression sounds very interesting to me but I have some reservations about its accuracy and more importantly, I am worried that if I reveal something fantastic I will have no way of proving that it's true to myself. Think about it, if Emilie didn't have her own wiki page (which was different at the time of the dream than it is now) I would have just chalked it up to an interesting dream. I am the kind of person who needs some sort of proof to believe in something - even if it isn't proof somebody else would accept. All that's important is if I see it as proof.

But I am not ruling out hypnosis or anything. I would just have to "accidently" come across someone in life who practices hypnosis - whose abilities I felt confidence in.

There is a Facebook page called "The Christian Left" that I think you would like. Unfortunately most of us today associate Christians with right-wing politics. It was not always this way. One thing that has blown me away is the fact that Bruce Leninger, little James' father, is an evangelical Christian. Yet Bruce is the one who did all of the research to prove his son had a past life as a World War II fighter pilot. Not only that, but he and his son have made numerous appearances on Christian television programs to tell their story. I would never have thought that possible.

Wow, what an interesting story, Commander! Emilie certainly was a fascinating historical figure, and the way you found her ... well, that's just the sort of weird synchronicity that has led me to investigate my connection to the American naval "commander" John Paul Jones.

I actually did have a dream where I met John Paul Jones in person (this was after I had already begun to wonder if I might have been him in a past life). He was teaching me how to sail. The funny thing about it was that it was a bit of a precognitive dream, in that we were surrounded by ships from many different eras. Not less than a week later I was on Golden Gate Bridge watching the Parade of Tall Ships go by, and I realized that it was just like my dream, only a different perspective.

Commander, I started reading "Proof of Heaven" only yesterday. The patterns of synchronicity in the Universe leave me staggering. The book was loaned to me by a friend who is an adult convert to the Catholic faith, and a thirty year believer in past lives. She also does regression therapy, and is going to assist me with it. I think you are at the right place at the right time. I "hear" what you are saying. All proof of spiritual matters is by nature, subjective - it has to satisfy the individual, and no one else.

Jody, I never realized how your John Paul Jones life was revealed. I am going to read your blog today. Later on in the day - I looked at your blog, and also some old threads to get clarity on your situation. You do resemble Jones to me.

@BriarRose: IMO my past life as Jones was never really "revealed," only suggested, and that would be by a voice in my head about a year before the above mentioned dream. But there's all kinds of weird synchronicity that followed that makes me think either I was Jones, am haunted by him, or somebody really wants me to believe I was him. I do have past life memories of being a sea captain during the Revolutionary War Period, and I do remember visiting Paris as a Scotsman. When I was 17 I visited the opera at Versailles and I absolutely knew that I had been there before, I could have pointed out exactly where I sat -- which happened to be amongst the best seats of the house! But I'm still not entirely convinced I am the reincarnation of John Paul Jones. I liked the guy I met in my dream, though.

You said he taught you how to sail. You may have served under him. You may have been a part of his crew.

So much of what we find out about our past lives amounts to circumstantial evidence, in my own case also. There are members on the forum with very strong cases of circumstantial evidence. When coupled with dreams, or "memories", I think very often they lead to something more concrete, at least enough to satisfy those of us who are "true believers", and the individuals involved. The "evidence" probably wouldn't hold up under scientific standards of investigation, but until there is some way to test "soul" DNA, that's all we have. Until then, I think for people who need stronger "proof", children's memories are still the best indicators that exist, and those are best evaluated by someone like Carol Bowman. She hears the child directly - we hear the story through adult "filters".

Your story is awesome! I think you should definitely try past life regression a few times, you'd probably be a good subject. This makes me even more eager to learn about my past lives! :)

commander -

First, let me welcome you to the forum! Here you will find a large group of people that will listen to you with an open mind, and not judge you. I'm glad you believed in yourself & dream enough to listen, consider it, and Google it! :)

Thank you for sharing your powerful dream & story! Fascinating to read, and far too many 'coincidences' to just be chance. The unique interest in infra red, sharing the same birthday...Why do you think you were meant to learn about this woman? And about reincarnation?...

Other things I would note, are changing sex from lifetime to lifetime is common. Also, you have probably had past lives in-between hers, and your current one. Most people reincarnate after death within an average of 1-5 years. You talk of the things you have in common, and the things that make you different - like her mistreating her servants. I think it is our common goal to learn and improve ourselves with each lifetime.

Good answer Lady2!

I don't doubt it at all commander. The Goddess (however you conceive Her) moves in the most mysterious ways. Please feel free to share with us as things come up for you as I've a feeling they will.

In my experience when 'things like this' happen, there's something going on in your present life that reflects a lesson you've already learned, but have forgotten. Like revision for a test. Pay attention. Feel free to share and discuss.

commander, have you ever seen the TV series "Touch" featuring a autistic-acting child with a seeming mystical command of numbers? I wonder what your take would be on that. BTW, my youngest son is autistic.
Hi, I've never seen that series...I will have to check it out!

As far as autism and numbers...almost all people who have savant syndrome are autistic...but only a small percentage of people with autism are savants. With that said, when speaking of aspergers syndrome, many "aspies" have an unusual command of numbers and math. I do, so does my son. My son has many traits of aspergers while I only have some...none of which are social issues which can profoundly impact people with aspergers syndrome in a negative way.

Ive always told people that math is extremely simple; you just need to understand the numbers 1 though 9. To me, multiplication and addition etc, are the same thing as mixing colors...you just know that yellow and blue make green. I just understand that 8 times 4 is 32 so therefore 83 times 47 is going to be 3,200 plus 80 x 7 which is 560 plus 3 x 47 which is 141...so then I just add up those numbers in my head and it comes to 3901. It takes me about 20 seconds to do something like 83 x 47 in my head...there are others who are FAR faster than me though. It's just an understanding of those numbers I guess and I also guess it's hard to explain.

When I was about six or seven my mom would take me grocery shopping and stick me in the cart and just tell me the prices of things she was putting into the cart and I would add them up for her so she knew how much she had spent thus far. She said I was her little calculator. lol

By the way, I do see the irony of God using numbers to communicate to me. I do videos on Youtube talking about autism. You can check them out under my youtube name which is my real name phil commander.

That to me is the big question. It is clear that it was revealed to me and I didn't just remember it. I was meant to remember it. The thing I kept asking myself was "Is it possible to remember events that happened in someone elses life?"

I do not think that is possible. Which leads me to believe that the only way I could have remembered this is that I was her and they are my memories also. Especially since they arent true memories...they are actually dream versions of an event. But it is an event that happened to someone else and not me...at least not the person I am now.
